Not Winning Hearts and Minds!

With the added Atrocities of War and Occupation: How to get more of your fellow soldiers killed and maimed and in these times, of the past couple of decades, innocent civilians, anywhere, targets of international criminal terrorist attacks!

Army restricts access to photos of soldiers with Afghan corpses

The Army is strictly controlling access to several grisly photos of U.S. soldiers holding up Afghan corpses, images that were uncovered as part of an investigation into alleged war crimes.

September 25, 2010 - Earlier this month, Army prosecutors at Joint Base Lewis-McChord turned over the photos to a military representative of civilian attorneys representing five soldiers accused of murdering three Afghan civilians and other crimes.

They Wanted A Perpetual War

And they made sure they created enough of the 'ghost enemy', international criminal terrorist, to give them their wealth and power producing War for themselves and theirs, done in our names and using our sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, relatives and friends!

US unable to document any payments for Abu Ghraib

26 September 2010 - Fending off demands that he resign over the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld told Congress he had found a legal way to compensate Iraqi detainees who suffered "grievous and brutal abuse and cruelty at the hands of a few members of the United States armed forces."

The 'CIA Torture' in Poland

Prosecutors to investigate 'CIA torture' in Poland

24th September 2010 - Poland has launched an investigation to establish whether a Saudi man accused of terrorism was tortured at a “secret CIA prison” reportedly located in Poland.

The man in question, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, is suspected of planning the 2000 USS Cole bombing.

Earlier this week, Mr al-Nashiri's attorney in Poland, Mikolaj Pietrzak, requested that Polish prosecutors investigate his client's detention and treatment by the CIA.

Prosecutor Jerzy Mierzewski informed the Associated Press that al-Nashiri's treatment would indeed be probed, but under the aegis of a broader investigation into Poland's role in America's now-defunct global network of secret detention camps.

Inquiry into Canada special forces in Afghanistan: report

14 September 2010 - Canada's Defense Ministry is conducting a "major inquiry" into the conduct of its special forces in Afghanistan between 2005 and 2008, CBC public television reported Tuesday.

Dubbed "Sand Trap 2," the investigation follows the narrower "Sand Trap 1" inquiry, which ended after several months but did not result in any charges being filed, Navy Captain David Scanlon told the station.

Contacted by AFP, a spokesman for Defense Minister Peter MacKay declined comment.

Scanlon told CBC that Sand Trap 2 began in 2008 after a Canadian commando raised concerns about the behavior of his colleagues.

Judgement Day

Cambodia's judgment day in photos

September 15, 2010 - A man who ran a notorious Cambodian torture prison where more than 14,000 people died during the Khmer Rouge regime was found guilty of war crimes in late July and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Despite the sentence, Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch, will serve no more than 19 years.

The judge took off five years for the time Duch was illegally detained before the United Nations-backed tribunal was established, and another 11 years for the time he has already served behind bars. {read rest and view slide show}

Amnesty International slams Iraq over prison torture

The US Soldier Who Committed Suicide After She Refused To Take Part in Torture

By Greg Mitchell, The Nation

With each revelation, or court decision, on US torture in Iraq, Afghanistan and Gitmo -- or the airing this month of The Tillman Story and Lawrence Wright's My Trip to Al-Qaeda -- I am reminded of the chilling story of Alyssa Peterson, who died seven years ago this week. Appalled when ordered to take part in interrogations that, no doubt, involved what most would call torture, she refused, then killed herself a few days later, on September 15, 2003.

Of course, we now know from the torture memos and the US Senate committee probe and various  press reports, that the "Gitmo-izing" of Iraq was happening just at the time Alyssa got swept up in it.

Spc. Alyssa Peterson was one of the first female soldiers who died in Iraq.   Her death under these circumstances should have drawn wide attention.   It's not exactly the Tillman case, but a cover-up, naturally, followed.

Peterson, 27, a Flagstaff, Ariz., native, served with C Company, 311th Military Intelligence BN, 101st Airborne. She was a valuable  Arabic-speaking interrogator assigned to the prison at our air base in troubled Tal Afar in northwestern Iraq. According to official records, she died on Sept. 15, 2003, from a "non-hostile weapons discharge."

A "non-hostile weapons discharge" leading to death is not unusual in Iraq, often quite accidental, so this one apparently raised few eyebrows. The Arizona Republic, three days after her death, reported that Army officials "said that a number of possible scenarios are being considered, including Peterson's own weapon discharging, the weapon of another soldier discharging, or the accidental shooting of Peterson by an Iraqi civilian." And that might have ended it right there.

But in this case, a longtime radio and newspaper reporter named Kevin Elston, not satisfied with the public story, decided to probe deeper in 2005, "just on a hunch," he told me in late 2006. He made "hundreds of phone calls" to the military and couldn't get anywhere, so he filed a Freedom of Information Act [FOIA] request. When the documents of the official investigation of her death arrived, they contained bombshell revelations.

Rights

Rights should not be taken for granted

September 13, 2010 - It's easy to forget that the faces we see on TV, in magazines and in newspapers are real people, just like us.

It's easy to think of the man in the green uniform, leaving on a plane, as a soldier fighting a war, and not a much-loved son going to risk his life. And it's easy to look at the misfortunes of someone you hear about in the newspaper, then reassure yourself it will never happen to you or your family. So why should you care?

Many people agree that the best indicator of the future is the past. So when someone's rights are violated intentionally, it is ignorant of us to believe it will never happen to us.

I'm 15 years old and I am a Canadian citizen.

It's expensive

Always wondered why Fear rules over Cost for these so called fiscal conservatives and the tax cutting teabagger types. They do same for Defense budgets, silence, but find nothing wrong with never mentioning the VA budget as they wage wars of choice and use the military and veterans in their speak for that phony patriotism!

Another reason to close Guantanamo: It's expensive

Sep. 11, 2010 - President Barack Obama has found another reason for closing the prison camps for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo, saying the Pentagon outpost is too expensive.

"The costs of holding folks in Guantanamo is massively higher than it is in holding them in a Supermax, maximum security prison here in the United States,'' Obama said at a White House news conference on Friday, one day before the Sept. 11 anniversary.

Worst Kind of Patriotism!

September 11 Brought Out the Worst Kind of Patriotism

September 11, 2010 - The first shattering scene of the 21st century calls forth a reminder, an observation, and a suggestion.

Remember the Tuesday morning of Sept. 11, 2001, before the terrorist attacks? Crystal clear on the Eastern Seaboard, a brilliant turquoise blue sky. The people of the nation woke up in a generally contented mood--but a bit complacent and fat from seven years of peace and prosperity.

September 10, 2010 - AT LEAST one secret CIA prison operated on Polish territory between 2001 and 2003, according to a newly published internal document of the intelligence agency. Four men arrested after shoes and eggs are thrown at Tony Blair at book signing

04 Sep 2010 - Four men have been arrested after shoes and eggs were thrown at Tony Blair as he promoted his controversial memoir in Dublin on Saturday.

Responsibility as well as Accountability

While this points to blair the taking of responsibility the World waits to come from here, the United States, and the Accountability must come from the people of both, as the World watches and waits, but especially in the Destroyed Iraq!

Blair should take responsibility for Iraq. But he won't. He can't

This is not a debate, it's a bloody, blood-soaked disaster for which the former PM should take responsibility

Tony Blair is Certifiably Nuts

I just listened to this interview and can now say what many, me included, have thought all along, not only about him but as to our own previous administration, he's certifiably crazy! I mean that in the so called World View, especially of righteousness, he just spoke. What's going on has Nothing to do with any religious ideology but does for those who want to use that as their excuse, boy do they got some splanin to do at the pearly gates. He seems to Not Understand that humans going into others countries and Destroying Them as that Kills and Maims Tens of Thousands plus and Millions of Refugees is Not going to create Rage and Hatred, not only in those countries but from others on the planet. He and like are beyond nuts, Way Beyond!!

"Iraq war became a nightmare"

Sorry there Tony but it was known headed towards much more then a 'nightmare' with the first beat of the drums of war of choice and you will be remembered, and judged, as a Main Participant beating those drums!! Even millions of Brits were telling you so and you choose, as your masters cheney and bush labeled, to ignore the 'focus groups' who were not proven wrong!!

Today: 08.29.2010, and Everyday!

Remind the beckers and hockey puck herds, Today, what they want to go back to is the Total Incompetence of the previous administration and the repub congresses then and before which brought the Example of Katrina's Devastation, in this Country, to the people of the Gulf!!

That they were blaming everyone else as they Supported that Incompetence, not only as to that but the emptying of our treasury, two wars and occupations of choice, tearing apart the constitutional rights of this country, the destruction of the economy {though that was coming with the con of trickle down capitalism anyway, the affore mentioned just hastened it and made it worse} and Oh So Much More.........................................!!

That's the 'god' they Worship!!

Withdraw the Last Combat Politicians from Washington

By David Swanson

Pretending to end a war and occupation, while stationing 50,000 soldiers, 18,000 mercenaries, and 84,000 support contractors in massive and permanent military bases in Iraq is a far cry from what candidate Barack Obama described as ending "the mind-set that got us into war in the first place." It fits better with Nobel Peace laureate Obama's description of war as "not only necessary but morally justified."

Protesters Disrupt War Criminal John Yoo's Return to Classroom UC Berkeley Law Boalt Hall 8-16-10

By Frances Dinkelspiel

Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war activist, and dozens of protesters from Code Pink, The World Can’t Wait, the Boalt Alliance to Abolish Torture and other groups marched through Berkeley Law School today to protest John Yoo’s position as a member of the faculty.
After holding a brief press conference outside the law school, the group marched through the halls and into an outdoor plaza where many students had gathered to have lunch. The protesters were wearing latex gloves dipped in red paint and they yelled “Torture is a war crime,” and “What do we want for John Yoo? Arrest! Indictment! Imprisonment!”

Democracy - Wikileaks

WikiLeaks necessary for democracy

August 27, 2010 - WikiLeaks, an organization dedicated to anonymously publishing classified documents, has recently come under fire for publishing more than 90,000 Afghanistan war logs — logs that meticulously chronicle a long, secretive history of brutality, deception and corruption at the behest of American intervention.

The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, has since been routinely harassed with a variety of threats, among these a false rape allegation purportedly initiated by the Pentagon to root out Assange during a stay in Sweden.

Therein lies the question: if the folks at the Pentagon are so afraid of Assange and his tiny donation-funded organization that they would start a smear campaign of death threats and baseless accusations, just how much are they hiding?
