It appears logically exigent and paramount that a combined American- British efforts to activate proactive diplomacy on the Kashmir issue has to be established since the new US administration under Barack Obama has been ready to give fresh thoughts on the issue and also being the fact that the British government(under Gordon Brown) is also paying positive concern regarding the Kashmir issue.

The appointment of Richard Holbrooke as the South Asian envoy is a good omen in this direction. Yet it would be more productive if the British government also takes an initiative to nominate a British diplomat to co-assist Mr Holbrooke whose task seems to have been multilaterally involved in Pakistan- Afghanistan issue.

We Jews in the international community call upon Israeli soldiers to raise the Black Flag of Illegality over the operations against the people of Gaza.

There are some substantial differences between our society in the early 21st Century, and America in the 1930s. With these differences, our society is now much more fragile and vulnerable to collapse. Here are a few that come immediately to mind:

Consider the Attributes of America in the 1930s :

A largely agrarian and self-sufficient society. (Now, just 1% of the population operating farms and ranches feed the other 99%.)

Not heavily dependent on computing and communications, technology, grid power, and petroleum-based fuels.

Shorter chains of supply. Most food was grown within 100 miles of where people lived.

A very small underclass that was dependent on charity or public welfare.

Lower property tax rates and lower (or nonexistent) license fees, vehicle registration fees, et cetera.

The majority of workers lived near their work.

Most displaced workers were willing to accept lower-paying jobs--even doing hard physical labor.

If we do allow them to remain free then we will have allowed the opening of a panda's box that we will sorely regret.
I am hopping and praying that Bush and Cheney will be arrested, charged and tried for their crimes. They are evil men who deserve to be made to pay for their crimes. Half of the American budget is devoted to defense spending and the economy would be in a real quandary without it. American political leaders would have to decide how to spend all the money freed up and since they believe in minimal government (except for defense, of course), they will face a real challenge. Possibly they could invest more in space travel to speed up our Mars program. Imagine the thrill of the average American, hungry or not, of witnessing such a stupendous technological accomplishment. If we are sufficiently fortuitous, we might encounter hostile aliens who would force us to spend more on defense again.

They could implement tax breaks for the rich but since they pay so little already, there would still be too much money remaining waiting to be spent. They could use the surplus after the tax breaks to further subsidize large corporations but then we might end up paying all their costs which sort of makes it a government program. Yikes

As we commemorate the deaths of those who died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, feelings will cover the gamut of emotions from remorse to anger. I am horrified by the events of August 6, 1945 and August 9, 1945 for several reasons. All the people who died were innocent civilians who were not involved in the war. As well, Japan was already defeated and was desperately trying to surrender on any terms. Then there is the evil in humankind that can murder so many people just to demonstrate to your post-war enemy, as a form of blackmail, that you have a powerful new weapon. In addition, careful study of the facts reveals that the U.S. leadership was guilty of genocide for bombing these two cities.

Here we go again. It's Iraq all over again. The U.S. is ratcheting up the fear that Iran will soon pose a nuclear threat to the United States. Both the House and the Senate are in the process of passing resolutions that accuse Iran of destabilizing the Middle East, proceeding with the development of nuclear weapons and delivery systems, violating the NPT Treaty, and funding groups that are attacking U.S. troops who are supporting the legitimate government of Iraq.

These charges are straight from Alice in Wonderland when Alice remarked that "Nothing would be as it is because everything would be what it wasn't". Every charge levelled against Iran is either specious or is a mirror image of U.S. guilt.

For example, it's the U.S. who is the major violator of the NPT treaty and who is destabilizing the Middle East. American presence in Iraq has rendered it impossible to create a legitimate government there.
