On July 15, 2011, accused NSA Whistleblower Thomas Drake was sentenced to probation, with no fine, by a US District Court Judge, the Hon. Richard D. Bennett, in Baltimore, MD. The defendant had pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor charge. Earlier, in the case, Mr. Drake faced 35 years in prison for supposedly violating the “Espionage Act.” The serious felony charges were dropped by prosecutors prior to this hearing. Judge Bennett was sharply critical of the government’s treatment of the defendant, according to Peace and Justice activist, Max Obuszewski and Maria Allwine. They attended the hearing.
