August 16, 2005
We are happy to announce that we will have two guest speakers at our monthly PDA Virginia meeting this Saturday:
Ven Neralla, Legislative Director for Rep. Barbara Lee of California. Lee introduced a resolution a week before the summer recess, which by law must be taken up and voted on, up or down, within 14 legislative days (meaning by Sept. 16), demanding from the Bush Administration all the documentation of interactions with the British government on matters concerning Iraq, during most of 2002, as a means of assessing the validity of the Downing Street documents. Pushing Congress members to support this Resolution of Inquiry is extremely important and should be a focus of all anti-war activities. It already has over 40 sponsors. Ven has agreed to talk to us about the state of play of this and other Congressional resolutions aimed at ending the US occupation of Iraq.
David Swanson, co-founder of the immensely successful AfterDowningStreet.org website, Press and Media Team Coordinator for PDA, who has been working on events in Crawford and set up the www.meetwithcindy.org website.
The agenda will also include planning what PDA-Virginia will do over the coming 6 weeks to build for the September 24-26 anti-war rally, fair, concert and lobbying days, and what we will do for the Kaine-Byrne-Deeds campaign and key delegate races.
Anyone who can make it is welcome, even if you may be undecided whether to become an active member of PDA-VA at this time. We’d love to meet you, and answer any questions you might have.
In any case, we are hoping that everyone who can will be in Washington at least for the Saturday, Sept. 24 rally and march, and that some of you will join delegations on the following Monday to visit your Congress member. And we hope that all of you will be active in helping in the key election campaigns in the fall.
As a reminder, the meeting is at Anthony's Restaurant, 309 West Broad St., Falls Church. It is about 2 blocks northwest of where Lee Highway (Route 29) intersects Route 7 (it is called Washington Street at that point), on the west side of the street. Route 29/Lee Highway is exit 69 from Route 66 (take Lee Hwy West). See mapquest:

For anyone coming in from outside of Northern Virginia, the following higher level map view shows that it is a few miles east of where 495 intersects 66:

We hope to see as many of you there as can make it, as we head into a very exciting several months of activity against the war/occupation and to turn the tide on the Republican Party in Virginia.
