Talking Points on House Resolution 505

This piece of legislation is the clearest way for Congress to demand a serious investigation of the Plame leak and the war lies that preceded it.

This privileged Resolution of Inquiry, introduced by Dennis Kucinich, has a lifespan of 14 legislative days, ending on or about November 9 with a vote in the House International Relations Committee. It is crucial that we build support before that date through a long list of cosponsors.

H Res 505 would require the White House to turn over all white papers, minutes, notes, emails or other communications kept by the White House Iraq Group (WHIG). The WHIG, comprised of the President's and Vice President's top aides, was central to the White House's effort to sell Congress, the media, and the public a war on fraudulent grounds.

Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation is not looking into the broader picture of the war lies that Joe Wilson challenged. It is up to Congress to do so.

A majority of Americans, according to ABC News / Washington Post, believe Bush lied about the reasons for war.

By 55% to 41%, according to ABC News / Washington Post, Americans believe the Libby case is not an isolated incident, but part of wider problems "with ethical wrongdoing" in the White House.

The International Relations Committee, on September 14, came within one vote of passing a Resolution of Inquiry into the Downing Street Memo (H. Res. 375). For H Res 505 to pass will require one or two more Yes votes.

Please take time to write and call your reps and ask for their support for 505. Even if your rep. is a Bush lover and thinks he is wonderful, still call and ask them to stand up for whats right and let the truth be known. Demand accountability!

I will take the time to contact Congressman John Sullivan from Oklahoma District #1, but I fear from glances in the rear view mirror his convictions are that of a lap dog, whimpering at the heels of Bush-Cheney and their ilk.

I will contact Bart Gordan From TN. He is a Democrat, one of the embattled few down here and usually votes reasonably

It is not just the documentary evidence of the Downing Street Minutes that lets us now know that from the first it was the President's secret intention to invade Iraq no matter what, and that "intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy". There is also a telltale snippet of conversation oft cited in the press but never analyzed correctly:

Bush to Tenet just before Christmas, 2002: "This is the best we've got? … This isn't good enough to convince Joe Public."

Tenet to Bush: "It's a slam dunk!"

The media has concentrated too much on Tenet's famous reply and has paid scant attention to the extremely revealing words of the President. That Bush never denied this conversation is telling; no doubt he and his advisors believe it shows him as being a caring and alert guardian of the people. But indeed it shows just the opposite. Look at what he says again, analytically.

"This is the best we've got? … This isn't good enough to convince Joe Public."

Bush KNEW even then that the intel wasn't good enough, not for the citizens and not for him. But he also knew that the intel could be "fixed", to repeat this telltale word in the Downing Street Minutes.

Now look at the President's words further. If the President really intended to "go to war only as a last resort" as he continued to say ad nauseam, why was he so annoyed that Tenet's intel was not "good enough"?

And then look finally at the "convince Joe Public" part. THERE was Bush's real intention, not just to convince Joe Public, but now, because of the admitted weakness of the intel, to DECEIVE Joe Public. Even without the Downing Street Memo, it was clear from this exchange months before the war what Bush's true objective was.

The rest is history. Tragic history.

I know that ever since 9/11 fear has taken over the minds of all of us in one way or another. My family and I can't talk about political issues because I was against the war from the beginning and they said, would I want an atomic bomb to kill my grandchildren! Those in power and the news media created this horrible condition of fear in our world to control us, to change our constitution, to give tax breaks to large corporations whose ceo's make millions a year yet steal the workers pensions and continue their own wealth. Yet, I believe if we join together we can change this agenda and vote everyone out of office involved in this deception. We can promote our constitution and remember the poor. Those we elect to office will be of high integrity with compassion for their fellow man, live up to their campaign promises and be truthful to the people of the US or expect to be fired by the people.

Stand up for America!!! Support h res 505!!!

In one years time State representatives from all over the map will come seeking your vote ... now is the time ... now is the time to let Republican Representatives know that those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing. Now is the time to remind Democratic Representative that we expect courage and die hard conviction.

The world will not take care of itself. Today is also the day that WE, WE THE PEOPLE get off our apathetic asses and use our mounting frustration to force all Representatives into action ... write, call, do whatever it takes, but get these Representatives to support fellow member Dennis Kucinich and H Res 505.

What are you waiting for? Do it! RIGHT NOW!
