GREAT BARRINGTON -- John C. Bonifaz, a constitutional and public interest lawyer, will be speaking on Friday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Congregational Church, 251 Main St. The subject of his talk will be "The Downing Street minutes and the Iraq war: Has the President committed impeachable offenses?"
Bonifaz is a 1992 cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School. In February and March 2003, he served as plaintiffs' lead counsel in John Doe I vs. President Bush, a constitutional challenge to President Bush's authority to wage war against Iraq absent a congressional declaration of war or equivalent action. Bonifaz represented a coalition of U.S. soldiers, parents of U.S. soldiers, and members of Congress, arguing that the president's planned first-strike invasion of Iraq violated the War Powers Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
Bonifaz is the author of "Warrior-King: The Case for Impeaching George Bush." He is also a co-founder of AfterDowningStreet.org, a national coalition of veterans groups, peace groups and public interest organizations seeking a formal congressional investigation into whether President Bush has committed impeachable offenses in connection with the Iraq war.
He recently appeared on the panel at the hearings in Washington, D.C., led by Rep. John Conyers to receive testimony concerning the Downing Street memos.
This talk is co-sponsored by Graham and Barbara Dean, and Berkshire Win Without War.
There is no fee to attend the talk, but donations to defray expenses will be accepted. Information: 528-0248.

I have been listening to Radio and T.V. commentators and reading newspaper Op Eds, news stories, Magazine articles regarding this war but, unless I missed something in this retoric, why is not more being said about the fact that this administration did the same thing by invading Iraq that Saddam Hussein did by invading Kuwait?? Am I being naive? If there has been any talk of this in the media I would certainly like to know when and where!!!
take action! write/call/e-mail your local and national media sources and demand answers! let them know that if they don't cover these relevant stories, they run the risk of being seen as out of touch, irrelevant,or worse. the only way they will change is if they get enough feedback!
