Karl Rove’s Nondisclosure Agreement
Today, news reports revealed that Karl Rove, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff and the President’s top political advisor, confirmed the identity of covert CIA official Valerie Plame Wilson with Robert Novak on July 8, 2003, six days before Mr. Novak published the information in a nationally syndicated column. These new disclosures have obvious relevance to the criminal investigation of Patrick Fitzgerald, the Special Counsel who is investigating whether Mr. Rove violated a criminal statute by revealing Ms. Wilson’s identity as a covert CIA official.

Independent of the relevance these new disclosures have to Mr. Fitzgerald’s investigation, they also have significant implications for: (1) whether Mr. Rove violated his obligations under his “Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement

What are the penalties for violation of the nondisclosure agreement?

Why would Rove be up to this sort of sneaky stuff, anyway? Clearly he was manipulating the press and public opinion about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein.

From the way that I remember late 2002 and early 2003, the ONLY reason that normal Americans acquiesced to Mr. Bush's war was because they feared "a mushroom cloud over an American city". No one I know really worried about Scud missiles or chemical artillery shells.

Without a doubt, much of the neo-con network within the Pentagon, White House and State Department was in on this in one way or another. Let's not forget "Tricky Dick" Cheney, either. I'm betting he knew.

Do we know for a fact that Rove signed one? Or is this another way they "covered up" to use their iedology to their advantage? Remember these are the same neo cons that have been planning since the 90's.

Not guilty.

But the fact remains that Rove was doing things no "honest official"[sic] would have done. People who are doing the right thing don't sneak around and fudge the facts for two years the way Rove and his abettors have done.

This is what has to be hammered home to the press and others: whatever laws may or may not have been broken, Rove's behavior was dishonest, unethical and endangered national security.
