Democrats move Downing Street speeches to Thursday

RAW STORY

Several Democratic congressmembers, led by ranking House Judiciary member John Conyers (D-MI), have opted to move planned Downing Street memo-related speeches on the House floor Tuesday evening to Thursday, RAW STORY has learned.

The handful of members were forced to delay their plans after the Republican leadership scheduled several late-night votes, Conyers press secretary Dena Graziano told RAW STORY. They now plan speeches Thursday evening, though they could be thwarted again if votes are scheduled or Congress is adjourned.

Among those who have expressed interest in speaking are Democratic Reps. John Conyers, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, John Lewis, Jay Inslee, Julia Carson, Louise Slaughter, Major Owens and Barney Frank, aides say.

Conyers has also announced he and several other House Democrats will hold town halls across the country July 23, the third-anniversary of the 'Downing Street Memo,' minutes of a meeting between British and American officials at which the British intelligence director said intelligence was being 'fixed' around a policy of war.

If anyone has watched President Bush's speech on Tuesday night in Fort Bragg, it was clearly evident that he and his supporters are starting to feel the heat that is much hotter than this summer's scorching temperatures. With the casualties mounting in Iraq and his approval ratings plummeting, Bush and his Bushniks around the country
now wished that either September 11th never happened or that he should've earned his presidency in 2000 the good ole fashion way, earning it! If only these right-wing psychopaths have learned from the liberal/progressive culture that they keep insulting is what that particular assulted culture knows best and that is the ancient power of karma: "it's everywhere you're gonna be". And the way these Republicans have gained a foothold to power and how they've been wielding it the last few years has become evident. Sooner or later,
the Downing Street Memo that has been transpiring throughout the country will be what Richard M. Nixon's Watergate scandal had made it's way into history back in 1972: starting out as an "eek" then into a "yell" and as soon as Woodward and Bernstein got a foothold on the story and all of Nixon's loyal Republican army have tried desperately to hide the truth from their enemies, became an all out "roar" that forced Nixon's hand at high noon on August 8, 1974. The power of karma has now set it's sights on Junior Bush and he is the prime candidate to be the first president in U.S. history to be legitimately impeached from office, which is the only way he can truly be defeated and that is by the power of the U.S. Constitution. Something Al Gore and John Kerry was not able to possess that kind of power in both 2000 and 2004.

Call it masochism, but I searched for coverage of the President's speech last night. Landing on CSPAN, I watched dual coverage of the House votes on foreign aid spending and Bush at his pulpit. I'm assuming that Conyers et al did not find the opportunity to discuss the Inquiry topic. I'm curious: will those susceptible to being mesmerized by Bush's war evangalism be placated? Will citizens, in the absence of coverage or investigations remain in the dark about the significance of the Memo and the efforts to hold Bush accountable? I worry that this potentially powerful movement is losing steam.

I didn’t watch the speech, and won’t read it either. He has nothing to say that I need to hear or know. I’ve done all of the research available online, available to every patriotic citizen. If you haven’t done the research to learn the TRUTH, and you are simply repeating the party line in an effort to silence seekers of the truth, you are merely a parrot, and serve no useful purpose in the future of this country.

Your duty at the present time is to read. Read everything you can get your hands on before they shut down the Internet and prevent you from learning the truth.

I think this is important enough for them to put in some more overtime. I understand they are all working very hard but this issue is gaining momentum and needs to be addressed before a serious distraction arises, like a vote on a new justice. The republicans will use a distraction and we will be sitting back with our thumb in our mouth watching the media cover and sensationalize a much less important issue.
