"Supporting Our Military Families"
As in ask them to find the nous and courage that will enable them refuse to participate in the corporate/investor evil called war? "Support" asking them to shut the fucking TV and pick up. e.g., Chomsky's books and, thereby, displace their idiocy.
"This Independence Day, First Lady Michelle Obama has a 'special message' for all Americans about 'supporting' our military families:"
The "special message": don't look to hard at what it is we are doing to you.
"Support," as in support a coalition of families who wake up and realize that RESISTING Empire will UNDO Empire. Instead, therefore, of "support," give due consideration to "resistance."
"The First Lady is asking 100 percent of Americans to 'support' the brave men and women in uniform and their families back home. Here are some things you can do in your community to get started:"
"Stay informed about the activities and concerns of military families in your community and across the nation;"
"Take time out to get to know and express appreciation to military families;"
Appreciation? I would appreciate it if before enlisting you would contact Courage to Resist. Then I will be inclined to "appreciate" you...here's their link:
http://www.couragetoresist.org/x/
"Help ensure military families have the opportunity to share their stories and voice their concerns in your community;"
Yes: like the Wikileaks "sharing of stories"? Let's have more of it--and, to that end, let's RELEASE BRADLEY MANNING so that he might "share" his "stories." Ok, there, Michelle?
http://wikileaks.org/
http://www.bradleymanning.org/
"Help ensure the places where you work, worship, and participate in community life connect their activities to addressing military families’ unique challenges;"
"and Identify opportunities in your communities to tap into the unique skills, experience and commitment to service our military families display each day,"
etc...
yet another bullshit fest at 1600 Pennsylvania...
"Today, the First Family will host more than 1,200 military heroes and their families for a Fourth of July celebration at the White House. Tune in for the Second Annual 'Salute to the Military' USO Concert, featuring The Killers, Brandi Carlile, Cedric 'The Entertainer,'"
etc...
Don't you see what this "celebration" is doing? This is a hideous perversion of the reality of life at Empire. i.e., it is a corporate-media-underwritten "manufacturing of consent" via GROSS DECEPTION AND EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL--i.e., "if you do not endorse what we are doing here at this July 4th 'celebration,' then you are, at the very least, 'unpatriotic'--and, worse--possibly treasonous, and, therefore, a bona fide enemy of both the State and the people of the US."
This "celebration" perpetuates in a material way that which we--purportedly--are seeking to undo: the Empire construct. That is, this is NOT an "innocent" gathering, but, rather, the very heart of how and why the corporate/State/media construct is able to sustain itself--BY LIES AND DECEPTION.
Again (for the thick headed at this website): "support" by "resisting."

If you think? you're espousing some sort of peace messages and you're anti-war your sadly mistaken, you're no different then the so called hawk wingers who supported all this!! What I've been seeing is an awful lot of hypocrisy on the pro peace side and carrying the hawks own messages for them, by blaming the present and Not Seeking Indictments On The Criminals Of The Most Recent Past!!!
You're Not a Veteran, but whether you are or not you're barking up the wrong tree son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is Is and if you can't find the Reality I Suggest Strongly You Stay Out Of Anything I Post!!!!
"I Take It You're Not a Veteran, but whether you are or not you're barking up the wrong tree son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"What is Is and if you can't find the Reality I Suggest Strongly You Stay Out Of Anything I Post!!!!"
First of all I'm not your "son." My father is not a schmuck hillbilly who glorifies war with stomach-turning, moronic media fests to further deceive an already idiotic rank and file here at Empire...
also... MLA standard usage prescribes just ONE exclamation point to stress an argument...
"What is Is..."
What are you trying to tell us here Sir? Again, standard use of the copula requires only ONE participle...
"I Suggest Strongly..."
MLA standard usage: adverb appears BEFORE the verb...
"I Suggest Strongly You Stay Out Of Anything I Post!!!!"
Or what Jimbo?
Please allow me point out to you an essential fact: the name of this blog is "War is a Crime."
Although, with you around one would not be faulted for having their doubts about the matter...
You knew enough that it was meant for you, didn't hit the reply under your post for that one, and only a smuck winger would use a 'jimmy bob' in replying as well as the rest of your crap, so you're showing exactly who and what you are, and frankly 'son' your oldman has nothing to do with what you write so stop hiding behind others!!!!!!!!
from Arthur Silber's blog--"No I Do NOT Support 'The Troops'":
http://powerofnarrative.blogspot.com/2009/05/no-i-do-not-support-troops....
If you, Jim, do not see how "celebrating" with the Obamas is a media ploy designed to glorify--and, thus perpetuate--war, then you well deserve the scolding to got...
What the fuck are you doing at this website--"War is a Crime"!
One of us HAS to go--either me or you. If Swanson agrees with you then PLEASE ask him to indicate this by disallowing any and all future comments by me.
Do that one thing for me RIGHT NOW, PLEASE, Jim. If Swanson agrees with your lunatic posting of the "celebration" at the White House then, PLEASE, have him block my comments here at this blog. If he agrees with you then I DO NOT NEED TO COMMENT HERE. YOU CAN HAVE YOUR 'SPACE' BACK--UNACCOSTED BY IDEAS THAT UPSET YOU.
we don't block people for calling each other names but we don't recommend it
on name calling: like Chomsky referring to Dershowitz as a "tenth-rate lawyer"?
of course, Dershowitz deserved that scolding--and more...
the point being, though, that EVERYONE has their day--NO exceptions...
Again though : does a "celebration" at the Whitehouse glorify--and, thus, tend to perpetuate--war?
Right! Then why have it announced with approbation here at (of ALL places!) War Is a Crime? THAT was my question.
from Zinn, who--as usual--had the right idea: NO flag waving...
"On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed.
"Is not nationalism -- that devotion to a flag, an anthem, a boundary so fierce it engenders mass murder -- one of the great evils of our time, along with racism, along with religious hatred?
"These ways of thinking -- cultivated, nurtured, indoctrinated from childhood on -- have been useful to those in power, and deadly for those out of power.
"National spirit can be benign in a country that is small and lacking both in military power and a hunger for expansion (Switzerland, Norway, Costa Rica and many more). But in a nation like ours -- huge, possessing thousands of weapons of mass destruction -- what might have been harmless pride becomes an arrogant nationalism dangerous to others and to ourselves.
"Our citizenry has been brought up to see our nation as different from others, an exception in the world, uniquely moral, expanding into other lands in order to bring civilization, liberty, democracy.
"That self-deception started early. "Put Away the Flags; Zinn, 2006".
Frankly, Dean, though I admire your zest, this discussion is spiraling out.
Jim posted a message about supporting the families of the troops serving now.
Seems pretty much like "help your neighbor."
You guys are operating on different levels in the same swirling vortex, in the same planes of awareness. One elicits respect for his life experience and sacrifice, the other demands an "either-or" ultimatum.
One is an acknowledged military (perhaps combat) veteran; the other defers mention of military status.
But both serve the discourse, even, perhaps, meeting, in a casual stand down to the goals of ending the wars, moving closer toward peace and justice for all.
"Jim posted a message about supporting the families of the troops serving now.
Seems pretty much like 'help your neighbor.'"'
No, Sir, he did not.
The post had to do with Forwardlooking--and his media extravaganza--USING the grieving families to further his nefarious, career-serving agenda, which, in this case, hinges upon the bloodspill in Afghanistan. THAT is what was objectionable, i.e., to play right into Forwardlooking's hands, the guy who OBVIOUSLY does NOT care for the working class or their families--the very collective who engage in conflict for the benefit of the investor class/military/industrial complex.
As Jim is a "proud veteran" [?] he ought to have been the FIRST one to rail against veterans being USED by the primary shill for the investor class. He didn't catch that though. You, as his editor, though, might have caught it for him.
I am four-square in favor of a diversity of opinions. But this post of his seems to be at cross purposes with what I would imagine War IS A Crime is hoping to achieve.
Question--and then I'll let the matter drop for ever and ever (if you do too)--in light of the fact that Zinn had written Put Away the Flags, what do you suppose his reaction would have been to "Michelle's" little "celebration"? I say that he would have seen it for what it was--an entirely suspect, subliminal endorsement for war via playing upon the emotions of those who went to war, those who have offspring who went, or that group who somehow feel "guilty" for not having gone [!]. Not to mention the fact that those who set up that little "show" have deferments for their offspring to ensure that they do NOT participate in the thing they insist is of necessity--i.e., "no sacrifice too great."
But you missed it too Chip. Let us please find other ways to "help thy neighbor"...beyond helping DC deceive the rank and file. They're already confused enough as it is...
And, finally, regarding the notion of "sacrifice": there are many ways in which we might "sacrifice" for the good of others when Empire engages in a global bloodspill. For example, those American youth who fled to Canada to avoid being gang-pressed into the kill fest in Southeast Asia during the sixties and early seventies gave up much in their lives for the sake of non-violence--ahimsa. The students at Cal Berkeley in the sixties who defied war-monger Reagan did so at at great risk to themselves, occasionally with loss of life, their futures, and criminal prosecution. And, yes, painful though it may be to contemplate, sometimes acquiescing to "authority" and consenting to participate in the bloodshed is NOT being courageous but, rather, it is taking the path of least resistance when that "authority" seems too formidable to defy. We have then relented and given ourselves over to Power rather than opposed the corruption--which opposition is, in fact, the far more onerous challenge to bear...
