More Americans Say Bush Responsible for Provoking Iraq War

49% Say Bush Responsible for Provoking Iraq War, 44% Say Hussein

June 23, 2005--Forty-nine percent (49%) of Americans say that President Bush is more responsible for starting the War with Iraq than Saddam Hussein. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 44% take the opposite view and believe Hussein shoulders most of the responsibility.

In late 2002, months before the fighting began, most Americans thought that Hussein was the one provoking the War. Just one-in-four thought the President was doing the provoking at that time.

The biggest change in perceptions has come among Democrats.

In 2002, the party of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi was divided on this point. By a 49% to 34% margin, liberal Democrats at the time said Bush bore most of the responsibility. Conservative Democrats placed the blame on Hussein by a 54% to 30% margin.

Now, however, 78% of all Democrats say that Bush is more responsible for starting the War than Hussein. Just 18% take the opposite view.

Republicans, by a 76% to 17% margin, say that Hussein is responsible.

Among those not affiliated with either major party, 52% name Bush and 34% Hussein.

Hey everybody, follow that lemming that looks like a chimp.

I don't think it's nice to insult lemmings and chimps!

Most republicans can't think for themselves. They need people like Bush, Rush, and Frist to tell them that they need God in government, that women shouldn't have the right to make decisions regarding their own body, that the moon is made of cheese, that the Earth is flat, that there is no such thing as global warming, that science is evil, and that Saddam was pointing his nukes at the U.S. and would fire them off any minute so we ought to go to war. Seriously, when was the last time you had a nice intellectual debate on any issue with a right leaner? Is it any surprise that most Republicans would follow their leader without question, and without giving it a second thought?

A really educated group they are, eh? They'll believe anything those buttheads tell them.

In my 62 years I have NEVER seen the country in such a mess. I was born during WWII, read about Korea at age 7, went through Vietnam, etc. As bad as these were, NOTHING has been as bad as what GWBush and his cronies have led us into. I used to have respect for Republicans, but their party and their morals are in shambles.

you're right, the country has only been in this kind of mess once before: back when Robert McNamara kept spouting the same bullshit that
Rumsfeld and Co. were, although Rummy recently recanted and is now making "cut and run" (the smart thing to do, by the way!) noises just to save his own ass from a lynching. If the repubelickan's are smart, they'll jump the proverbial sinking ship, abandon their "commander in cheeze" and let that fucker take the fall and get indicted, just like Rice and Bolton and any other asshole who helped engineer this lie that has cost this nation it's security, it's wellbeing, and it's financial
solvency. It's time to march by the tens of thousands and take it all back again, and I mean, take it ALL BACK....

My friend, be not afraid to identify yourself as your a true patriotic American!

I completely agree with your entire tirade and the appropriateness of the punishments suggested for the evil-doers. I have stated on this website my concerns that America is at a cross-roads in its history. The Consititution must be preserved to maintain this as a nation of laws and not a nation of individuals acting at thier whim.

My God--49% of Americans say Bush is responisible for the war he started without provocation on March 20,2003. This is a remarkable shift, as Americans who supported Bush's war slowly admit we were duped by the dope. But who are the other 51% and what will it take to awaken them to the catastrophic reality of what Bush has done?

Osama bin Laden and little George Stupid are the moral equivalent of each other; they both use god, religion, and lies to justify killing people. The only difference between the two are the number of people they have killed. Present score: little George 100,000 dead in Iraq, Osama 3,000 dead on 9/11.

Little George Stupid is a morally bankrupt intellectual midget.

Its an oxymoron use GW and intelligence or intellectual in the same sentence.

It's even more of an oxymoron to say any republican(s) IS/ARE intellectuals.

It makes me laugh when republicans pride themselves on being intellectuals, yet they still can't think for themselves.

In all seriousness we do need a strong movement toward investigating
and bring those who rigged the intelligence to justify the invasion of
Iraq. If enough evidence can be massed then all who were involved
should all be tried for treason.

If the Chief Commander of the United States ( president) has not
truthfully given the Senate full information, but has concealed important
intelligence which he ought to have communicated, and by that means
induced them to enter into measures injurious to their country,
and which they would not have consented to had the true state of
things been disclosed to them.

Isn't it amazing that this country has fallen so low that a president's
sexual misconduct caused a greater outrage than a president that
deliberately uses false information too take the whole nation into
harms way and increase the danger toward it by taking us into an unjust war.

Roger that!! The hypocrasy and duplicity are mind numbing. What the DSM clearly reflect is that the PUS is guilty of treason and war crimes. Dig the implications of that!! bush the little, and his pal Tony B., could be thrown in prison along with Saddam. Saddam could be released for false arrest. WHile we have in fact known the truth of the DSM before (long before!!) they were published, just try to imagine what would happen if a sitting president were brought before the courts on crimes of Trason Against the State. (I love it!!) It could be the only way America could regain a sense of decency and respect in the world. But I doubt it will ever happen. Smoking gun? Try smoking cannon! Meanwhile our spineless jellyfish Dem senators sit on their rearends trying to be cautious?! How many more will die for bush's lies while our elected officials make nicey-nice?

Senator Kennedy has a petition on his website, (tedkennedy.com) gathering signatures supporting the removal of Rumsfeld from his office.
