American Media Hide the Evidence: Did Israeli Troops Execute or Murder the Mavi Marmara Victims?

You want to know why we need independent journalism, and why those of you who are reading this article need to support the publication in which it is appearing and well as the one for which I originally wrote it? Because if you rely for your news on the US corporate media, whether ad-supported or underwriter-supported, you won’t learn that Furkan Dogan, the 19-year-old American citizen slain by Israeli commandos in the raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla May 31, was shot in the back and in the back of the head, as well as multiple times in the face.

This is the conclusion of the autopsy conducted by the Turkish Council of Forensic Medicine, which also did autopsies on the eight other Turkish citizens killed in the Israeli raid on the Mavi Marmara ferry and five other smaller boats in the so-called Freedom Flotilla. Of the other eight dead, the medical examiners found that five had been shot in the back, or in the back of the head.

This critically important information has simply not appeared in US news reports. It has been blacked out. Some American news organizations have left out the autopsy information entirely from their reports as of Saturday. CNN, in its report on Friday (, did note that five of the nine were shot in the head, and at close range, but the all-important fact that most of the victims were shot from behind was left out. ABC had the same information on Thursday, again without mentioning the shots from behind. In its article on Friday, the NY Times had yet to even name Dogan, the American victim, much less mention the bullets that hit him or how he was shot. As of Sunday, the Times had still not reported the nature of the deadly shots fired.

And yet, if you’re trying to establish what happened on that ship, the direction of the firing, not just the number of bullets, or the distance from which they were fired, is crucial....

You guys are right. I just watched the news, and the news caster just told a great big lie.

I am referring to the Humanitarian ship that left Greece to bring aid to the people of Gaza. Israel and America are both on board, telling one great big lie. Even my favorite news caster that I have watched since I was a kid, even he is in on the lie. And this last part is what is most disappointing. My newscaster has sold out to the highest bidder, and me and my town are the loosers.

I can still hear the lie in my head, as though this was their plan all along: "The people on board attacked the Israeli men boarding their ship". I mean, that was it, no investigation, no interviews, just the one line statement. It was as though, if you say this line mr newscaster, then you will get this carat for your service.

I would be willing to get my hands dirty, give up my way of life, admit my part in this whole mess in our country; but what is really hard to swallow, is my favorite childhood newscaster has allowed the lie to infect my city. What cowardice, what a terrible way to make a living.

I hope this fellow who lives in our community knows his name. We sure know his. And we all ask your price, so that we may all pitch in and just pay you off so that this "infection" can be prevented.

Thanks ABC, thanks FCC, thanks to our President; and we can not forget to thank all the citizens who sit back and allow this crime to take place and continue. What a way to grow up fast, to be lied to about the most important things that affect our futures. It may be time that parents stop teaching their kids, and now let their kids teach them a thing or too. Like maybe how to get a "Spine".
