Better Late Than Never: DFA Breaks the Rules, Backs a Real Progressive: Marcy Winograd

Democracy for America sent this Email today:

While we've been focusing on the U.S. Senate -- pushing Joe Sestak over the top against former Republican Arlen Specter and helping Bill Halter force Blanche Lincoln into a run-off in Arkansas -- local members have never lost sight of beating Blue Dogs in the House of Representatives.

Local DFA members, like Bill Lackemacher know primaries matter in the House too. Now, he's the Field Director for one of the most exciting primary races in the House and with our help, he's going to lead Marcy Winograd to victory over Blue Dog Jane Harman on June 8. But he's not alone. DFA members in New Hampshire have called progressive leader Ann McLane Kuster the next Carol Shea-Porter. Now, they're working to make sure Kuster wins against Blue Dog Katrina Swett.

Progressive Leaders Marcy Winograd and Ann McLane Kuster are working to defeat Blue Dogs and the elections are coming up fast. It's up to our national movement to back up these leaders on the ground.

Progressive Leader Marcy Winograd will fight for Medicare for All and green jobs for a new green economy. As a former public school teacher, she'll make improving education a top priority. That's why she's earned the endorsement of United Teachers of Los Angeles. Recent polling shows Marcy gaining ground while keeping Harman at 43%, well under the 50% normally considered safe for incumbents.

Blue Dog Jane Harman, in California's 39th District, has a long record of standing up against progressives, not for us. As a member of the Democratic Leadership Council, she voted for the Iraq War resolution, covered up and then defended Bush's illegal warrentless wiretapping program that spied on Americans, and voted with Republicans to restrict rules on personal bankruptcy making it even harder for America's poor to climb their way out of debt.

Progressive Leader Ann McLane Kuster is a longtime progressive who worked hard in New Hampshire to improve access to affordable health care for families -- and led grassroots efforts in the state on behalf of reproductive rights.

Blue Dog Katrina Swett, running in New Hampshire's 2nd District, was national co-chair for Joe Lieberman's campaign. She continued to support Joe after he lost to Ned Lamont in the 2006 Democratic primary supporting his victory over the actual Democrat on the general election ballot.

Blue Dogs and Corporate Democrats can be counted on to come through for Wall Street, insurance lobbyists, and big oil but we can't count on them to come through for us, the Democratic Party, or even the American people.

It's time to replace bad Democrats with real ones. Support two true Progressive Leaders who will stand up and lead against corporate special interests.

Thank you for everything you do.
