States Plan Lawsuit Against New Health Care Bill

States plan lawsuit against new health care bill | CNN

Ten states plan to file a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the new health care reform bill, Florida's attorney general announced Monday.

Bill McCollum, the Republican attorney general under fellow Republican Gov. Charlie Crist, told a news conference that the lawsuit - joined by his counterparts in Alabama, Texas, South Carolina, Utah, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Washington state, North Dakota and South Dakota - would be filed once President Barack Obama signs the health care bill into law. This lawsuit would ideally be backed by every state in the country; a majority of the states, anyway. The lawsuit shouldn't be left to only a relatively small number of states to file and push, say. Ten out of fifty states is 20%, which is not tiny, but while I nevertheless think it's too few for an issue as important as the one the lawsuit is for, single-payer, universal health care leaving no one excluded.

All taxpayers should be pushing with these states. After all, if single-payer health care will cost over $3,000 [less per year] than what health care presently costs, per capita, or per medically treated patient, whichever of the two is what the average cost is related to, then taxpayers should be SEEING serious savings with single-payer ... care. Even taxpayers who'd prefer that their tax dollars not be used for this purpose should have nothing to gripe about, since the system would cost much less than it presently does.

If the federal gov't doesn't respond in ethical terms, then every member of the Congress, Senate and the executive branch should automatically lose their free health care coverage paid for with taxpayer dollars. This is wishful thinking.
