This clip with Ron Paul seems almost like it's from some sort of futuristic film noir genre of story, only it's real.
I think his words should be carefully heeded, but am not sure to agree with taxing people's savings, for when these are from earned wages that've already been taxed, then the double-taxation should definitely not be permissible. Maybe taxing interest earned on such savings could be justified, but am not sure of this being right, either. What would help to make the latter more acceptable is if the taxation on earned interest on savings from earned income that's been taxed is on a graduated scale, so, f.e., people with modest savings and relatively little interest would't be taxed on the interest at all; people with modest savings making profitable investments with these funds would be taxed little on the returns; while wealthy people ... would be treated at a higher level of taxation.
Besides, when it comes to interest earned on savings, this, if I'm not mistaken, is with savings accounts in or with banks and if this is right, then it's the banks that operate like rackets, making or keeping 80% or more of the earnings made with account holders' money; while the latter people get ... drip, a meager amount of interest. And such bank account holders are people who often don't have much income, for people with good incomes would generally prefer to invest in stocks, or in other forms with higher returns; if I'm not mistaken about this. I likely wouldn't bother with a savings account with banks, since they return awfully little of the real earnings made with client accounts. Instead, I would want a checking account with a bank, and the rest of my money placed in real investments; and buying and working a farm for food cropping is one example of investment I'd have in mind. That would be a much better to use my funds; ... I believe.
But I'm not a money-matters expert, so might be mistaken, though not about the farm idea or dream.
