Blogger David Swanson has done yeoman's work in directing attention to news reports of the U.S. counterinsurgency executions of ten people in the dead of night last week -- eight of them schoolchildren as young as ten years old. Swanson's website, AfterDowningStreet.org, has some excellent commentary on the story, including links to most of the major articles in the mainstream press.
According to the London Times, "Locals said that some victims were handcuffed before being killed." David Lindorff at AfterDowningStreet comments on how the atrocity of the killings was buried in the New York Times article on the story:
Let’s be clear here. If the charges are correct, that American forces, or American-led forces, are handcuffing their victims and then executing them, then they are committing egregious war crimes. If they are killing children, they are committing equally egregious war crimes. If they are handcuffing and executing children, the atrocity is beyond horrific. This incident, if true, would actually be worse than the infamous war crime that occurred in My Lai during the Vietnam War. In that case, we had ordinary soldiers in the field, acting under the orders of several low-ranking officers in the heat of an operation, shooting and killing women, children and babies. But in this case we appear to have seasoned special forces troops actually directing the taking captives, cuffing them, herding them into a room, and spraying them with bullets, execution style.
Given the history of the commanding general in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, who is known to have run a massive death squad operation in Iraq before being named to his current post by President Obama, and who is known to have called for the same kind of tactics in Afghanistan, it should not be surprising that the US would now be committing atrocities in Afghanistan. If this is how this war is going to be conducted, though, the US media should be making a major effort to uncover and expose the crime.
There have been protests by hundreds of university students in Jalalabad over a rise in civilian deaths in the Afghanistan war, and particularly over the shootings of the schoolchildren. Read more.

If I believed in god, I would be on my knees begging for mercy for my country. As it is, I foresee the accelleration of America's decline because our national arrogance increases, unabated. We Progressives were bamboozled into thinking Obama was/would effect CHANGE and it truly is time to acknowledge that fact. He is, in fact, George Bush with a high IQ and decent grammar. The Italians may have elected a buffoon, but they know what Berlusconi is. We should admit to ourselves that we have elected a neocon charlatan.
DonP It is a shame that this site apparently no longer publishes comments from readers. I would love to read the comments from the supporters of "The One" now that empirical evidence is overwhelming that his administration is just as guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity as the despised one.

I suspect, because of the delay in getting comments posted. I know we mostly had a good back and forth in the comments section, and understand why volunteer management has made screens to keep out spam and hate. I miss the old days too. If I had the immediate gratification of seeing my post and seeing your post back, I'd post more. Perhaps the news posts, and not our comments are most important:) Would like to have a way to have live back and forth with ADS users. but am not techno savvy enough to figure out how to do that. A new site? I wouldn't want to moderate us. You?

I have long held that the ADS format made it the "Flag Ship" of The Movement.
We are in a "Propaganda War" with the old-school U.S. Main Stream Media which has been completely compromised by the demise of the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE (R.I.P. 1949-1987) and the "Media-opoly" allowed by the Telecommunications Act of 1996 by the likes of Zionist scum like Rupert "WAR CRIMINAL" Murdoch.
Even PBS and NPR have been completely compromised as evidenced by their complete lack of coverage of Israel's War Crimes in Gaza and the 9/11 TRUTH MOVEMENT.
A quick "S.W.O.T" analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) shows that our adversary's WEAKNESS is that like all static "Top Down" bureaucracies, they react SLOWLY . . . because each LIE must be approved by the higher ups . . .
. . . thus our STRENGTH is our SPEED and flexibility.
Therefore, when the Zio-Press launches a new LIE campaign, all you kidz can quickly analyze it with the "Bovine Excrement Meter" . . .
. . . likewise, when the Zio-Press launches a new Misinformation/Misdirection campaign (i.e. Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, etc. "sensational" scandal), you kidz can quickly expose the "man behind the curtain" or the REAL story that ISN'T being reported.
Instead of the "Minute Men" of 1776, you LIBERTY KIDZ have become the "Micro-Second" Media Warriors of the 21st Century.
One other key strength of the NEW Peer-to-Peer Full Duplex Media is our ability to "connect the dotz" to expose patterns for each other. The Zio-Press is designed to be emotionally manipulative to short circuit the thought process by "emoting" the so-called NEWS (read Bill "WAR CRIMINAL" O'Reilly) to keep the view mesmerized in the "right now". . . . that satan-box is always the DOMINANT entity in the room . . . and always gets the last word.
While I can understand that our CIA/MOSSAD/MI5 "New World Order" cyber-thugs spend a lot of time trying to disrupt sites like ADS and that this has created policies and procedures that:
1 - slowed us down from REAL TIME analysis while NEWS is breaking to a "moderated" . . . and thus delayed . . . system
2- reduced the number and types of "dotz" one can put in a post in the form of links to other sites and articles
3 - Cooled down the PASSION of the posters that can no longer discuss/argue/debate in REAL TIME . . . not to mention exposing "Zio-Turds" and other Trolls . . . (big kiss to MOSSAD-MATTY of the Florida 5th Column!!!)
4 - (and from my personal experience due to a misconception of the new ADS posting moderation), demoralized our enthusiasm a bit because we feel we are being "shushed" when our posts don't appear.
I hope that the wonderful Staff at ADS will consider these points as we plan for the NEW YEAR of 2010 A.D.!!!
We've got a LOT of work to do, kidz . . . but together we can expose and defeat this 7-7-7 shadow cabal that has hi-jacked our Great Constitutional Republic!!!
