Health Care Bill Linked Here With Majority Leader's and Speaker's Statements

Manager's amendment posted.

Boehner substitute amendment officially filed
.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Md) released the following statement on the filling of the Manager’s Amendment to the Affordable Health Care for America Act:

“With the completion of the Manager’s Amendment to the Affordable Health Care for America Act, we are now in the final stage of moving this critical bill through the House. We pledged we would make this amendment available for 72 hours before a vote. Now that the Amendment is posted, the clock has started.

“There are few legislative efforts that have received as much debate and discussion as health insurance reform. Our Members have worked very hard on this legislation, and I believe that as a result, we have a strong product that will lower costs and provide greater health care stability for all Americans. We are continuing to discuss this legislation with our Members, and I will bring it to the Floor once we have consensus and in keeping with our 72 hour pledge."

The Manager’s Amendment can be accessed on the Rules Committee website.

Speaker:

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi released the following statement this evening on the House filing a manager’s amendment to HR 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act:

“Tonight, we have filed a manager’s amendment to the Affordable Health Care for America Act, which is the next critical step toward comprehensive health insurance reform that ensures affordability for the middle class, provides security for our seniors, and protects our children’s future by not adding to our deficit. Our bill covers 96 percent of Americans, makes coverage more affordable for all, and creates new consumer protections that will end discrimination by insurance companies against the sick and cap what Americans pay out-of-pocket.

“Building on the legislation House Democrats introduced last week, this manager’s amendment includes these key improvements to the bill:

  • providing $1 billion in new resources to states to rein in price gouging by insurance companies,
  • excluding insurers who put profits over patients from an affordable marketplace that will serve tens of millions of Americans,
  • expanding on the provision that removed insurance companies’ anti-trust exemption and strengthening it to further promote competition and bring down costs for Americans; and
  • expanding oversight to further prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.

“Americans are ready for comprehensive health insurance reform, and the House will soon act.”

It's very hard for me to understand why the leadership of our congresses can't face up to the real problems with our existing healthcare programs.
Problem #1: The Insurance Industry has almost TOTAL control over healthcare costs. And nearly one third of what we have to pay, provides ZERO, NADA, not one cent of healthcare services.
Problem #2: Most of the leadership, and the members of congresses have taken campaign contributions in millions of $$$'s from the very Industries that buy their votes thru those contributions.
Problem #3: In the general public lives of most of us, these people making these decisions are in a DIRECT "conflict of interest", and should be removed from any committee's or leadership roles.
Problem #4: These leaders have too much power when making decisions of what's in or out. Their decisions that are extremely contriversal, must receive up or down votes from all members of congress, and an explanation to the people of the U.S., prior to any action taken. It's called accountability.
Problem # 5: Our government is no longer a government for the people, the people are largely ignored in today's government functions. Today's government listens to what Corporate America wants. Today's government rewards major failures in Corporate America. Today's government elected officials represent their own personal interest, and those they have sold out to Corporate America. And the results of what our government does adds Billions more of $$$'s to us, the people of the U.S.
Problem #6: "We the People" continue to elect and re-elect these same people to the government offices, and we continue to get more and more of the same results year in and year out. This government we continue to support has proved beyond any shadow of any doubt, they DO NOT listen to the their constituents, once elected.
