The news, please, not celebrity junk

I would like the news media, both print and electronic, to stop insulting my intelligence and please provide some real news.

I do not care about Michael Jackson, Paris Hilton or Tom Cruise. I do not care about car chases in California. I have heard all I want to hear about this week's unfortunate young blond woman who has disappeared.

I would like to know about the failing status of a number of pension funds and the government guarantee of those funds. I would like to know more about Iraq than just a body count or a video of a shootout. I would like to know about our balance of trade and about our lack of a national energy policy. I would like to know more about the Downing Street memo.

Please stop treating me as if I cannot understand these issues. If our democracy is to survive and thrive, the populace must be kept informed. Breathless coverage of celebrity gossip and the like is at least a waste of time and at most a threat to our national well-being. - Mark G. Pond, Mesa

Real news. Wow! Wouldn't that be nice for a change?

I have sent more than 10 emails to CNN about the TRUTH and keeping The Downing Street Memos in the news instead of the run away bride and precious little boys that get lost.

Let's keep pressuring them!

It's not that TV news thinks people are stupid, they actually count on it.. Would intelligent people buy the silly products they
peddle for almost HALF of the program - NO.

If you want real news on TV try PBS: BBC world news and News hour
They aren't trying to sell you anything

IN READING THE ABOVE COMMENTS, IT'S CLEAR INTELLENGENT CONCERNED AMERICANS WANT THE TRUTH ABOUT MAJOR ISSUE'S. TOO LATE EVERYBODY. THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA IS OWNED BY MAJOR CORPORATIONS.THIS PRESIDENT AND HIS ADMINISTRATION IS OWNED AND CONTROLED MY THESE MAJOR CORPORATIONS. ALL OF US ARE LIVING IN A CORPORATE CONCENTRATION CAMP. THERE WERE INDIVIDUAL'S WHO WARNED OF THIS COMMING SITUATION YEARS AGO BUT WE WERE TOO STUPID TO EXCEPT THIS WARNNING. NOW THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS FORMING TO COMBAT MANY DIFFERENT IMPROPREITIES, BUT IT'S TOO LATE. I SUSPECT ANY INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP ORGANIZATION THAT BECOMES TO VOCAL, TOO CLOSE TO THE TRUTH,
TOO COMBATIVELY EFFECTIVE AGAINST THESE CORPORATE AND GOVERNMENT IMPROPREITIES WILL SIMPLY BE SWEPT AWAY BY GOVERNMENT ACTION BACKED BY THE PATRIOT ACT WHICH DENIES CIVIL LIBERTIES TO WHOMEVER THEY DESIRE TO ATTATCH THIS LABEL TO. GO AHEAD AND HAVE CONTEMPT FOR THIS NOTION TOO. LIKE THE WARNNING'S THAT WERE MADE ABOUT CORPORATION'S OWNING AND CONTROLING ALL THE NEWS AND RELIVANT INFORMATION IN THIS COUNTRY.

The Pentagon has contracted with a private firm to build a database of draft-age Americans. Guess why?

Anybody still sitting on the fence about the complete and utter trainwreck which the White House calls the "WAR ON TERROR"?

Not me. But then, I don't have children facing the 'generational commitment' Condi Rice was so proud to mention the other day.

Amen to that.

I can't help feeling like its all bread and circuses, meant to distract us from what's really going on.

There is so much news, real news (not celebrity BS or human interest stories) all over the world that we hear nothing about. The amound of international news we get here is absolutely a joke.

And on top of that, the non-news just serves to distract Americans from the shenanigans that their leaders are up to. It is really exasperating!
