The (ongoing) Education of US Congressman David Price

By Heide Kober

I would like to share our story:

The (ongoing) Education of US Congressman David Price

Reporting from the 4th Congressional District in North Carolina

North Carolinians in the state's 4th District had it with their centrist, play-it-safe Congressman. They lobbied him and his staff at home and in Washington relentlessly, challenged him in public meetings, threatened petitions, and organized a public debate that clearly put him in the hot seat. The question: are you with us, your constituents, on the Iraq war and occupation or with the political analysts wedded to the DLC in Washington?

The following links tell the story:

Chapel Hill, Aug 25
On Friday, August 12, US Rep. David Price (NC-04) gave the following address, "The Way Forward in Iraq." The speech was delivered at Binkley Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and was attended by more than 100 constituents. Price had given an earlier version of the speech on the floor of the House of Representatives in late July.

Chapel Hill, October 31
Democrats and representatives from the district's peace and justice groups meet with Rep. Price again to thank him for co-sponsoring the Price-Miller Resolution and to urge him to strengthen the resolution by demanding tangible results and refusing to continue to fund this war unless these demands were met.

In return, we agree to help build support for the Price-Miller Resolution across North Carolina, utilizing our experience and state-wide network of activists. Our next targets are Representatives Butterfield and Etheridge.
