Senator Harry Reid today spoke out strongly and forced the Senate into an unusual closed session to discuss the Senate Intelligence Committee Chair's refusal to conduct the investigation into White House war lies that his committee agreed in February 2004 to conduct.

"Be prepared to face this motion every day until you face this reality," said Senator Richard Durbin.

The New York Times reports: "Afterward, the Senate majority leader, Bill Frist, Republican of Tennessee, announced an agreement with the Senate minority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, to end the closed session. Senator Frist said each leader would appoint three senators to investigate the Senate Intelligence Committee's schedule for completing its investigation. The panel is to report back by Nov. 14. It was not immediately clear what use would be made of the report."

Associated Press reports: "Immediately after returning to public session, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts says Republicans have 'agreed to do what we agreed to do.'"

Hold him to that:
Sen. Pat Roberts -- 202-224-4774;

Thank and encourage Reid and Durbin:
Sen. Harry Reid -- 1-202-224-3452;

Sen. Dick Durbin -- 1-202-224-2152;

Watch for more on what you can do.

Perhaps the solution isn't simply for the DNC to fight for an investigation; but to show the RNC membership what can happen if there is no investigation.

The first asks the DNC to assert prudence in the face of the RNC absurdity; the second asks the RNC members see that imprudence will bring more recklessness.

Admirable goals are for the admirable; consequences are for those who cannot be inspired by prudence.

Be patient, it will take time for the RNC to understand you wish for a common better future -- they do not trust their own leadership, and will take time to trust those they've been convinced to fear.
