After the Libby Indictment, the Press Is Acquitting Itself

By Norman Solomon

A lot of media outlets are now scrutinizing some of the lies told by the Bush administration before the invasion of Iraq. Yet the same news organizations are bypassing their own key roles in the marketing of those lies. A case in point is the New York Times.

On Oct. 29, hours after the indictment of Lewis Libby, the lead editorial of the Times ended by declaring that “the big point Americans need to keep in mind is this: There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

...and they can't wash it off with words...

In the presidential election the Democratic leadership and those who hold the purse strings refused to support Al Gore whom rank and file Democrats wanted as our nominee and foisted John Kerry off on us.

John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards and many other Democrats voted yes to the Resolution giving Bush the power to invade Iraq.
Al Gore said he would never have invaded Iraq and John Kerry represented no opposition to Bush and the lying warmongers.

So what about Democrats Mr Solomon? Shouldn't they be held accountable for their role in all of this? Will Democrats have pro war candidates such as Hillary foist upon us in the next presidential election and given no real choice once again or will the Democrats also be held accountable for what they've done. I say indict the guilty Democrats too. Indict Hillary.

Please recall the words of Senator Robert Byrd on the Senate floor right before we invaded Iraq. He was about the only one who upheld the Constitution and stood up for the people and the truth. If he had been from Massachusetts there would probably have been a lot more written about him.
