UN expert criticizes US torture decision

By davidswanson - Posted on 18 April 2009

VIENNA (AP) — An Austrian newspaper quotes the U.N.'s top torture investigator as saying President Barack Obama's decision not to prosecute CIA operatives who used questionable interrogation practices violates international law.

Manfred Nowak is quoted in Der Standard as saying the United States has committed itself under the U.N. Convention against Torture to make torture a crime and to prosecute those suspected of engaging in it.

Obama assured CIA operatives on Thursday they would not be prosecuted for their rough interrogation tactics of terror suspects under the former Bush administration.

Nowak also says in the newspaper interview published Saturday that a comprehensive independent investigation is needed, and that it is important to compensate victims.

It appears that the United States government has no legal intent to abide by any past or future laws, when it comes to those who are considered to be "ABOVE THE LAWS".
The United States Constitution is no longer the 'BIBLE TEXT' for these eleite criminals. Our government officals seem to ignore what the Constitution is, or has been for over 200 years. Money,$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, and GREED has replaced any inkling of morallity, honesty, or truthfulness. Our leaders appear to be buying into lying, cheating, misleading, deceiving, tactics that have become common place within our government.
A GOVERNMENT, FOR THE GOVERNMENT, BY THE GOVERNMENT, is what we have today. "WE THE PEOPLE" are no longer a part of how this country is governed. Our input is "TAX MONEY" for the GOVERNMENT'S use only.
It's our country, We are the people who are getting the blame all over the world. But "We the People" no longer have a say in this GOVERNMENT. And this GOVERNMENT don't care, or respect the people's needs any longer. Priority one seems to bew CORPORATE AMERICA's needs and wants, followed by protecting those who have been placed "ABOVE THE LAW" here in our country.

I hear you. PLEASE follow my link.
