Finally Fitzgerald speaks to the media. Is there anyone of any persuasion that would not think this man would be a far better Supreme Court choice than any of the alternatives we've been offered so far - or that we can even hope to be offered under the current administration? Yeah, he's young (44) and at the prime of his life, but he seems like a person who thinks about reality, not politics.

Sure he can be bought, but at least it seems that he hasn't been bought by the neocons or religious right yet.

I know...

Pipe dreams can work, if the pipe is big enough. Things are in flux right now - this is one of those unique times when changes could happen rapidly. The mainstream media is actually (having to) pay attention to stories that do not directly affect their corporate profits.

What more could you ask for at the political level right now?

Cross your fingers, and do what you can to make America and freedom work again!

Our Responsibility to End Torture

None of us can forget the images from Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad that shocked our nation nearly two years ago and stained the United States in the eyes of the world. The American people suddenly realized an unpleasant truth - the cruel practice of torture had infected the ranks of the world's finest military.

Finally, on October 5th, by an overwhelming vote of 90-9, the Senate passed strict provisions as part of the Defense Appropriations Bill that would take the current military regulations against torture and turn them into law. And President Bush has threatened to veto the Defense Appropriation Bill unless the provisions are dropped.

The President is not above the law, and neither is his Administration.

It's wrong for the current House Republican leadership to turn that historic body into a rubber stamp for the Administration's abhorrent position on torture. I call on my Congressional representatives to take a strong stand against torture, just as the Senate has.

Indictment Is Not the End
by Senator Edward M Kennedy
Fri Oct 28, 2005 at 02:38:35 PM PDT
Today's an ominous day for the country, a new low since Watergate in terms of openness and honesty in our government.

This indictment is far more than an indictment of one individual. It's an indictment of the lengths to which Administration officials were willing to go to cover up their failed intelligence. It's an indictment of their distortions about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and their serious blunders taking us to war and their
vindictive efforts to discredit anyone who challenges their misrepresentations.

Senator Edward M Kennedy's diary :: ::
As we know, Scooter Libby and Vice President Cheney withheld critical documents in the Senate's investigation of the use and misuse of intelligence and the abuse of power in the decision to go to war and
in the management of the war.

These documents must be handed over, because the American people deserve answers.

That is why I'm urging the White House to hand over those documents
-- and asking you to join me in doing so. We need as many Americans as possible to join us in the next few days to show the White House that we are not letting this indictment be the end.

Please join me at my website

The White House has made keeping secrets from the American people a priority, and that has to stop.

The American people know the high cost of this misguided war -- 2,000 U.S. soldiers dead, more than 15,000 wounded, hundreds of billions of dollars spent with no end in sight, and a continuing shameful effort by the White House to silence those who try to tell the truth about the war.

We need answers, not cover-ups, by the Administration about these serious issues. Thank you for all your support in trying to get the truth.

We Need Answers not Cover-ups

Scooter Libby and Vice President Cheney withheld critical documents in the Senate's investigation of the use and misuse of intelligence in the decision to go to war and in the management of the war.

These documents must be handed over, because the American people deserve answers.

We need answers, not cover-ups, by the Administration about these serious issues. I ask the White House to turn over all documents withheld from the United States Senate during its investigation of the use of intelligence during the planning of the Iraq war.

My Comments Added to the Petition Above:

We also need the documents behind the Downing Street Minutes and Memos. Rep. Conyers stood at the gates of OUR White House locked out with other members of Congress when they tried to deliver the more than half million signatures of American citizens demanding release of this other information that took the US to war under false pretenses and have cost so many lives.

The American people deserve all the documents witheld for the US Senate to make a decision in the most important question they ever face - to send the young people of US citizens to fight a war
