2000, Why?
Not One More

By Cindy Sheehan

"Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the State becomes lawless and corrupt." Mahatma Gandhi

Unfortunately the 2000th American death in Iraq is tragically coming up too soon. In addition to the wasted young lives in Iraq, 246 of our brave men and women have been killed in Afghanistan. Our troops and the war in Afghanistan get even less attention than Iraq, if possible.

I am in Washington, DC now and along with a coalition of peace groups and local activists, we will be holding vigils at the White House for the rest of the week from 12 noon to 8 PM.

Each day we will be passing out black wrist bands and we will have each person who picks one up write a KIA troops' name and number on it. Each wrist band will also stand for 50 innocent Iraqis killed. Everyday at 6 PM we will have a "die-in." We will ask everyone who is present at 6 PM to lie down and represent a dead soldier. At that point, the park police will give us 3 warnings before they arrest us. We are not encouraging people to get arrested is a very personal decision. I am planning to not get up on the day after the 2000 th soldier is killed. I may be arrested. Then when they let me out, I will go back and lie back down. We in America have let this criminal administration get away with murder for too long. Enough is enough. It's time to start practicing non-violent civil disobedience ( C.D.) on a large scale.

On Tuesday the 25th we will be fasting for the length of the vigil in solidarity with the hardships that Americans and Iraqis are enduring on a daily basis. We are asking America to fast in solidarity with us.

On Wednesday the 26th at 10:30 AM, we will be going to Arlington Cemetery to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Then to the White House for our vigil.

On Thursday the 27th at 10:30 AM we will be delivering a wreath and signed sympathy cards to the Iraqi Embassy. We are asking people who come out to our vigil on the Lafayette Park side to bring sympathy cards. Then to the White House for our vigil.

On Friday the 28th at 10:30 AM we will be delivering flowers and get well wishes to Walter Reed Hospital and we are asking people to bring get well cards to our vigil. Then off to the White House for our vigil.

Tomorrow I will be calling on President Bush to answer my original question: "What Noble Cause?" There is absolutely no noble cause. Our children and the Iraqi people are dying and suffering for no cause except for power and money greedy criminals.

The numbers are staggering. More American soldiers have been KIA in the first 32 months of Iraq so far then in the first 4 years of Vietnam. This isn't another Vietnam people, this is worse.

We cannot allow the people who are running our country to keep on running it into the ground.

It is time to exercise our sacred duty as human beings.

Let's get peacefully radical.

Can anyone tell me who has the money for the Oil Sold from Iraq? Where did the oil go to?

Can Congress answer my question? Can the News Media of this country (or anyother) tell me who has the money from the Iraqi Oil?

Why are people just blindly falling for all the bogus unproven reasons for going to Iraq for War?

The Iraqi people asked this administration to give them their own oil fields in which to work and they would rebuild Iraq. Why did this administration refuse to do that?

Can this administration prove why they went to war in Iraq?

Sincerely,

Theresa J. Steed
Conroe, Texas

God bless Cindy and the Camp Casey Patriots

this is a waste of time money and its time to give this up so these men a women can come home to there familys enought is enought

Get a grip, you idiot! Take a course in English/Spelling 101.

There are more things that are important at the moment than someone's spelling/grammar. If that's all you are concerned with, please keep your remarks to yourself and your kind!

Hi, Dede and Cindy. Go, Cindy. You know we grannies are behind you and will be thinking of you all week. We'll continue our vigil and are plotting a few surprises of our own again. Love and warm hugs, Joan Wile, Proud member of Granny Jailbirds 18. and Grandmothers Against the War

Wasn't the real reason for going to war in Iraq to provide a return on investment for the military industrial complex which contributed to the Bush 2000 campaign?

Go Cindy! We now must demand all the White House Iraq papers to positively show this corrupt administration hyped and lied for this war and put our troops in harms way for nothing, but greed and oil. The repugs. all have blood on their hands now. This administration has done nothing positive, just hurting Americans for these obsessive greed.

I truly believe that our protests and especially the Crawford Camp Casey has stopped the draft that I believe had been planned. I have a draftable aged son and daughter and I want to thank all of us that have been active in trying to stop this war. I think we have saved many young American lives. Lets keep it up and bring all of our kids home now.

Cindy, I was most happy to see you smiling when you got arrested. I am very pleased at your reasons and am so glad that you have begun to realize that you can still smile and feel joy. Casey is most likely very happy about that too. May all you mothers and others be able to feel true happiness in your hearts again.

The key words here are "lawless and corrupt". We are in IRAQ and Afghanistan with the approval of the UN and the US Congress. Where is the lawlessness and corruption?

1. US Congress cannot make an offensive war legal. If Russia's government says that Poland should be invaded (to protect the border because Germany will probably try to invade again), the war does not become legal.
2. UN Security Council did not authorize invasion of Iraq.
So here the lawlessness and corruption.

The Un did not approve the actions of the United States Military, the President has violated International LAw

1) The UN Secretary General has said very plainly that the "shock and awe" invasion of Iraq was a contravention of the U.N. Charter and therefore illegal under international law. In fact, violations of international treaty obligations that are undertaken by the United States are also violations of U.S. "highest law" under its own constitution.

2) The courts have clearly established that war-making power, given solely to the Congress under the U.S. constitution, cannot legally be delegated to anyone else. In other words, "authorizing" the U.S. President to initiate wars is an unconstitutional act in itself.

I'll let somebody else deal with the corruption question. It's so widespread and pervasive that I wouldn't know where to begin.

You IDIOT! The "approval" was based on not just a few misstatements or mistakes but a conspiracy of lies to and deception of both the Citizens of the United States and the United Nations General Assembly. This is both lawless and corrupt.

Lifting and centering you and your loved ones and your allies in prayer, Cindy and friends, your collective health and mass movement peaceful strength, especially.

Where do you get the time and $$ to go lie down and get arrested?

Your changing the years to make Iraq look worse than Vietnam??? Wow... Your saying that the first 4 years were worse? What first four years? You mean in 1954 when Eisenhower pledged support to Prime Minister Diem's government? Or in 1961 when troop build-up began? You probably meant in 1961. Well it took four years to get our guys situated down there and deployed. The first combat deaths occurred in 1965. But the total U.S. soldier deaths were over 58,000 when it was all over!! Nice way to mislead Cindy...

I just read on line through BBC news that they have just reached 2,000 dead U.S. Troops are actions going to happen soon?

The FBI uses polygraphs to eliminate suspects.

Cindy is a freak. She disrespects the memory of all the men and women who have given their lives...including her own son. He died bravely for his country...to secure the freedoms we have here that allow people like Cindy to speak their mind...to chain themselves to fences....to speak against our government. I can't help wondering when she is going to be getting the big book deal....

You are the freak! Cindy has given the ultimate sacrifice...her precious son. My son just returned from Irag on Sunday. You will never understand the anguish of a mother with her son at war. Someone needs to be at the forefront of this illegal war. Who better than a mom who lost her son? I am very proud of my son ( in the Army) and my oldest son served in the Navy in the 1st Gulf War) so I know what it is about. Aren't they fighting to protect our right of free speech? You can be angry and disillusioned by your government and still understand the troops, they're suffering and sacrifice. My grandchildren need their father home. That does not mean I approve of this war or our current "regime" in Washington, DC. They are a bunch of liars and crooks and I can't wait for the indictments to start. One of the best ways to support our troops is to make sure they are at war "defending" this country, not fighting in an illegal, aggresive action. BRING THEM ALL HOME!!

What should we have done about 9/11? Talk about it.....negotiate....be realistic. You're talking about people who blow themselves up to kill Americans...they enlist children to be walking suicide bombs...to kill Americans....they need to be dealt with. 9/11 happened because of people like Cindy and you all that don't have the stomach to defend our country...don't have the stomach to be strong...how many terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11? war is terrible....and losing lives is terrible....but for freedom it has to be done...to walk safely down our streets it has to be done....are you afraid to get on a bus in your city or town...can the same be said for the citizen of Iraq who want democracy...we are not killing them..terrorists are and they must be dealt with. Wake up...
