A veteran who has been out of the military for 15 years and recently received his AARP card was stunned when he received notice he will be deployed to Iraq.
The last time Paul Bandel, 50, saw combat was in the early 1990s during the Gulf War.
"(I was) kind of shocked, not understanding what I was getting into," said Bandel, who lives in the Nashville, Tenn., area.
In 1993, Bandel took the option of leaving the Army without retirement and never thought he would be called back to action.
"Here he's 50 years old, getting his AARP card, and here he's being redeployed with all these 18-year-olds," said Paul's wife, Linda Bandel.
"I can understand, say, 'Here, we have this assignment for you stateside. Go do your training,'" said Paul Bandel. "But, 'Hey, here's a gun, go back to the desert.'"
Involuntary recall allows the military, regardless of age or how long someone has been out of service, to order vets back into active duty.
"Anger's not the word. I was more concerned about the financial impact it's going to do. My pay's probably cut in half," said Paul Bandel.
"Right now, I'm just in disbelief because it's like the disbelief that this could be happening 15 years after being out of the military. It's like a dream or a nightmare," said Linda Bandel.
The veteran is dusting off his old uniforms and torn between his duty to his country and obligations as a grandfather.
"I certainly never thought I'd be going back there at this point in my life," said Paul Bandel.
The last missile system the veteran was trained to operate is no longer used by the military.
Calls to the Army and the Pentagon about how many men and women in their 50s are being called back to duty were not returned Wednesday.
Paul Bandel will be deployed overseas until 2010. His wife plans to move in with her elderly parents until his return.

"JUST SAY NO"! (Or "fuck you"!) It is sheep like you that allows such insanity to continue!
GROW SOME!!!
REAL "CHANGE"? http://www.dsausa.org/about/index.html
Let's think a minute before we get upset. The guy was an officer who never resigned his commission. If he was smart enough to be an officer he was smart enough to know that without resigning his commission he has an obligation (ever heard of that word?) to respond if recalled. The fact that he "didn't expect" to ever have to fulfill that obligation is beside the point. He's where he is because of his own decisions. He expected to get something out of his commission. Most probably he's in a delayed retirement program/reserves/whatever and expected to start drawing retirement when he gets old enough without ever having to pay the price in time served. What a shock! Gove wants him to do what he said he'd do! Don't ya feel soooo sorry for him? NOT!

If you have learned how the crime families and oil companies are using the U.S. Military in their criminal pursuits, you can always truthfully declare that you've learned new information about this since your last deployment and wish to upgrade your current status to 'decommissioned' since your heart may not be into these criminal government escapades.
Please read my paper at:

The Pentagrom gang have wasted thousands of America's finest, and you may wind up like some generals who went to get their 'shots' & immunizations and die on the spot, depending on how classified your clearance is.
Don't be a sap. Tell em to go to hell. Joe

It is now apparent that the U.S. Government criminal affiliates killed a lot more than 3,000 Americans at 911 and the stench of rotting flesh throughout New York for long after 911 prompted one author and his associates to estimate the real figure to be at least 30,000 persons murdered in the WTC on 911.
The late Chandra Levy was reportedly trying to warn people about this and left a message around May 2001 on relative's answering machine that she had to tell them something really big. She was fired, let go from the Federal Bureau of Prisons just before she 'disappeared', allegedly because she knew too much about what was going to happen.
When you consider how Mr. Obama is nothing more than another British Intelligence Asset like his father was, and how he is an extension of what already has happened, and how the whole criminal gang that runs the U.S. doesn't give a f------ damn about you or any of us, that would make you culpable if you agree to go back and serve them.
Tell you what. I for example right now have no immediate family, no wife, etc.. If you have a wife, home, etc., and are willing to leave it to go over there and kiss their asses like they want, you deserve every bad piece of crap you get.
The number of desertions from U.S. Military ranks has not been made public and is reportedly over 10,000 according to some.
If you cannot do some investigative reasoning, as I said in my article, then go ahead and 'Make em proud, boy'.
