Bush Lies About Al Qaeda in Iraq, Is Called On It, Says "So What?"

The prevarications of Bush about the entry of Al Qaeda into Iraq are of a piece with his response to the shoe hurling incident in Baghdad recently. This was not simply a deranged journalist seeking a photo op; it symbolized a general attitude of Iraqis toward the foreign occupation of their country. The fact that Bush had to enter and depart Iraq in an unannounced and stealthy manner is to be compared with the joyous public welcome given to visiting Iranian President Ahmajinedad when the latter appeared in Baghdad. This reflects on the cluelessness of Bush's policies that have led to so much grief.
