Ethics and Obama

By davidswanson - Posted on 22 November 2008

So, here's a question. If you exclude people who've recently been lobbyists, why would you not exclude people who've recently served on the boards of corporations that present conflicts of interest?

Obama's national security adviser: Boeing and Chevron.

And what about people who own stock in corporations that present conflicts of interest (something that's gotten Cheney indicted in south Texas, but that otherwise seems to go completely unremarked in Washington)?

At what point do "ethics" requirements cease to be attempts to accomplish anything ethical?

This guy Gen James Jones (Bond) will benefit from waging war since he has "Investment" in the two most important elements responsible for this wars:

1-BIG OIL (Chevron)

2-Militar Industrial Complex (Boeing)

By the way Boeing was the number 1 Corporation in the US at the time when ENRON was the 4th.

From Wikipedia:

"Boeing is the largest global aircraft manufacturer by revenue, orders and deliveries, and the second-largest aerospace and defense contractor in the world.[2] Boeing is the largest exporter in the United States. Its stock is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average."

Give me a Serious 9-11 investigation and the Mith of THE WAR ON TERROR will be banished forever!

DonP When I was in government people I interacted with in industry all said that "the problem with goverment ethic rules is: they are written by people who have no ethics" I never expect appoitees to demonstrate any better or different ethical behavior than the the people they replace. That said I wish Pres.Elect Obams well. I truly believe that the survival of the American government as currently fashioned (as bad as it is) is in terrible jeproady unless actions are taken within six months to correct the course we have taken. We must reduce the military by 75 per cent. We must withdraw our military from most of the 132 countries they are in. We must stop bailing out the rich and start caring for the starving and homeless in this country. We cannot afford as a nation to run 5-7 trillion dollar deficits. Hard times are here and will require extreme care to save the Republic. I wish at this point that I had faith in any diety because people at this point I am scared sh++less for our nations survival. Ethics are the least of our problems..

REAL "CHANGE"? http://www.dsausa.org/about/index.html

back Kucinich noow?

Hell Yes! But I've been here all along. I do not understand why Dennis Kucinich's ideas do not hold sway. There should be millions of us backing him. I guess ethical practical reality is not appreciated by many people as a guide to interacting with the world in which we are a part.

At times it seems that Kucinich will not stand up to the criminal leadership of the dem wing of the corperate war party, also for some reason kucinich is easily marginalized. We have a criminal government and an ineffectual and or controlled opposition inside congress.POWER TO THE PEOPLE,END THE FED Chris Dorsey, RVA4Peace

So, in an attempt to reiterate; Barack Obama says lobbyist influence is bad, but then goes and appoints them, as well as actual boardmembers to his administration, so he maybe thinks that "lobbyists" are often mambypamby and he wants a more pure influence that only robber-barons themselves can provide. Am I getting this right?
