Rachel Maddow: End the (New) Poll Tax

By Anonymous - Posted on 03 November 2008

Why can't the Red Cross, clubs, schools, volunteer organizations, and church groups, etc. put some chairs & water along the lines for folks to be able to rest periodically on the voting lines in Florida, and everywhere there are long waits? More...

Also voters could be encouraged to bring folding chairs with them for their own use, and to share with others who need a rest.

As well as water and leftover Halloween candy, etc.?

Three words: Mail in ballots. I thought this was strange and possibly a problem when I encountered them on my move to Oregon, but I am so glad, seeing these type of reports, that I could fill in my ballot in the privacy of my home, with no pressure as to time, and then simply drop it into the box at the library. Washington State adopted this balloting method this year; I don't know if any other state has it. But what a great way to eliminate not only this "poll tax" but also the fears that continue to surround electronic voting machines.
