Kucinich: Bush-Ordered Attacks in Pakistan Further Destabilizing World Security

By davidswanson - Posted on 12 September 2008

Washington D.C. (September 12, 2008) -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who in October 2002 was the first member of Congress who maintained that Bush was lying to take the country into war, issued the following statement regarding President Bush's authorization of U.S. attacks inside of Pakistan:

"The President is once again violating international law by invading yet another nation which has not attacked the United States. Once again, he places our troops and our reputation at risk. Once again, he creates more enemies for America. Pakistan's objections to the illegal US Predator strikes inside the country's border should be a clear indication of how Pakistan would respond to another illegal attack upon their sovereign nation.

"Pakistan is a nuclear flash point on the Asian subcontinent. This situation requires intense diplomacy. The United States under George Bush is playing with fire, creating more instability, killing innocent Pakistanis, imperiling our troops in the region and weakening the hold our allies have on their democratic governments. Instead of limiting aggression, Bush expands it.

“The Administration not only ignores the will of an ally, but risks expanding the failed war in Afghanistan into Pakistan. This is unnecessary and it is illegal. Congress must intervene legislatively and legally to block Bush from continuing down this dangerous path.

"Additionally, this is further proof why Congress should not adjourn at the end of September. Congress' absence from Washington will further license the Administration to build up conflict with Iran, Russia, Pakistan and beyond. We must stay in session through the year's end and into the next Congress to hold this President in check.

"We must exercise our responsibility as a co-equal branch of government. President Bush acts as though the United States is an imperial monarchy. Yet, even with 761 military bases scattered across the globe, the sun must set on Bush's aggression.

"With the domestic economy in jeopardy, with people losing their jobs, their investments, their retirement security, their health care, and their plans for their children's education, the Administration's focus should be on domestic matters. Sadly, for the world, their only talent is creating war.”

Poor little Dennis just can't make up his mind. He shouts for impeachment, rails against our illegal wars, and then cries "Up with the Democratic Party! Up with Obama/Biden!"

Obama/Biden has all but pledged their support for war with Pakistan, as well as militarily confronting Russia. And both will work to see the criminal "Bush gang" is free to regroup, and at some time - strike again.

At least the anti-imperialist, Ron Paul, refuses to endorse his party's wannabe kings.

You don't excite me anymore Dennis. When you start backing the people who back your principles, maybe I'll start listening again.

I too, would have preferred that Congressman Kucinich had not endorsed Obama/Biden, although I fully understand his reasons for doing so. They are the lesser of two evils in this election.

But I ask you this: where was Ron Paul when Dennis Kucinich stood up before the congress and read thirty-five searing articles of impeachment against George W. Bush? Ron Paul "talks" Constitution, but I have YET to see him actually take a stand. When Ron Paul signs on as a co-sponsor of the articles of impeachment, and starts voicing his support in public, then he will have earned my respect.

I don't defend Paul's abstaining from impeachment in any way, whatsoever. I agree with you completely.

Jesse Ventura is looking more appealing everyday. He's not afraid to ask questions, honors the Constitution, and has no partisan baggage to compromise his principles. A pretty near "perfect" American.

Bravo Dennis for "raising hell" within the Democractic Party, United WE Stand, but by deserting the Party, as some advocate, looking for a "pie in the sky" won't work, but will insure victory for the united "stick together" republicans, who have put Party before Country, despicable indeed.

Staying true to your friends and colleagues within the Democratic Party, Nancy, Steny, Harry, and John Conyers, and all your fellow colleagues, even on both sides of the aisle, is certainly the only way to go to benefit the nation.

NOW its up to the voters themselves to once again put their complete trust in true democratic values to bring about the REAL CHANGE America wants and needs.

"Dissension is the greatest form of patriotism" our founding father Thomas Jefferson was very fond of saying and loved for citizens to speak out against tyranny in any way, shape or form. Dennis has accomplished the very first important steps to insure and preserve the Republic by remaining true to the Constitution first and foremost.

THANK YOU Rep Dennis Kucinich, America's Most Courageous Congressman!

Thank you Dennis for speaking truth in a Congress
of cowards and enablers. At least there is one
voice of the Light needed to conquer dark war
and killing promoters. The solution is not with
who the Major Media are peddling but with
the revolution of the mass mind of the people
who honor truth and reverence for life.

peace and LOVE on earth

I am glad Dennis is speaking against the attack in Pakistan. There is no denying that. Although, Obama, under the usual right wing pressure, declared Wednesday that he would use military force against Al Qaeda operatives hiding in tribal areas of Pakistan if that nation did not move more aggressively against them first. So the question of whether there should be attacks where Civilians become casualties. And yet for Obama to win this election, he has to play the right wing "game" or be crushed by right wing voters, media and the ignoramuses who ride the wind. Is Ron Paul's idea just to sit idle the answer? I agree that to kill for oil and dollar supremacy is imperialism, but is it imperialism to fight the Taliban?

I am from Pakistan and i have some what idea of public sentiments here. Crossing the border, firing missiles and civilian casualties is making a difficult task almost impossible for the Government of Pakistan. We need to win the hearts rather than killing civilians and their children. Public opinion matters a lot and these type of attacks risk losing the war.

As the elections in America are near i see increase in these type of attacks for 'short term political gains'.

Personally i like Americans and I would like to see them to stand up and tell their government that enough is enough because violence breeds violence.

why the fuck is the United Nations sitting on it's hands and doing nothing about this U.S. INCURSION INTO YET ANOTHER NON-BELIGERENT NATION???

what the fuck is going on??

I am from Pakistan and writing this mail in grave concern, as to what status do the government of Pakistan and its people have with the USA in the war aginst terrorism? Are we friends of the US or their foes? I fail to understand that why are we subjected to statements as the below stated remarks of Congressman Dennis Kucinch (D-OH) of US saying, that the US under Bush's administration is playing with fire by attacks inisde Pakistan...... My suggestion in this regard is to be more professional in our approach in dealing with the extremist elements on our borders with afghanistan by joint operations with the Pakistani forces and US led nato forces while operating inside Pakistani borders. This CBM (confidence building measure) will ensure stibilty in the relations with the US and the governement's and the people of Pakistan's sentiment as well.

Let me reiterate this fact to the Congressman, that we are a responsible country of the world and we are the allies of the United States of America since our very independence over 60 years ago. I want to remind the congrassman that it was because of Pakistan's role and cooperation in the Afghan Soviet war, that America succeeded in bringing down the USSR. We are staunch allies of the US and our nuclear capability is only for our defence and self integrity purposes against an emerging econimic giant and our neighbour, who has aggresive motives in the region and has illegelly occupied Kashmir. We do not intend any aggression against any nation in the world. It is high time that the US starts treating us as friends not foes at any cost as we have proved so time and again. We Pakistanis love peace and wish econimic prosperity for ourselves and for the rest of the world. Educating the people of Pakistan can solve many problems like the extremism aswell.

A nation of over 160 million people cannot be ignored by rest of the world as it poses dire concequesces for Pakistan in particular and all in general.
