Ralph Nader Writes to John Conyers Re Being Uninvited for Friday
Independent Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader today sent the following letter to U.S. House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers on the hearings about presidential misconduct scheduled for Friday, July 25.
Chairman John Conyers
House Judiciary Committee
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20510
Dear Chairman Conyers:
For years I have been urging you to initiate a resolution of impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for chronic, repeated violations of our Constitution and the many "high crimes and misdemeanors" they commit day after day. These two men are the worst recidivist impeachable occupiers of the Presidency and Vice Presidency in American history.
Since assuming power over both Houses, the Democratic leadership declared impeachment to be "off the table."
During our 2004 Nader/Camejo independent campaign for the Presidency, we invited the American people to sign on in support of our demand for the impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Many thousands of citizens signed.
We have had several conversations and two meetings where impeachment was discussed. On March 24, 2008, I wrote you a letter describing the various options open to you as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee (see enclosed.)
A few days ago, it was reported that your Committee will hold hearings this Friday July 25, 2008 on Congressman Dennis Kucinich's article of impeachment referred to your jurisdiction.
You have invited four members of the House to testify including, of course, Congressman Kucinich and several observers of the subject, including the inestimable former mayor of Salt Lake City Rocky Anderson, Bruce Fein and John Dean. The Libertarian candidate for President, Bob Barr is also on the witness list, but I am not.
This is not the first time that I have been excluded from testifying on subjects both of us have been concerned about and have discussed. Remember your invitation to testify at your unofficial public hearing right after the 2004 elections regarding "irregularities" in Ohio? Within two days, your chief of staff, Perry Applebaum, persuaded you to disinvite me.
Applebaum has been a problem with my appearing before a Committee Chairman whom I have known, admired and worked with for nearly forty years. He has performed his exclusionary behavior on other occasions. It is time to make this public and to ascertain why he prevails again and again with his superior either not to invite or to deny requests to testify regarding subjects well within my knowledge, experience, and forthrightness.
Sincerely,
Ralph Nader

Stay warm this winter in a black hooded sweatshirt. Order one. Order them by the dozen and donate them to occupations!

Which of course is the only thing the spineless Democrats of the 110th Congress are truly concerned with.
1.2 million dead Iraqis and more than 4000 dead American soldiers? They can't be seen inside the Beltway, so they're just "collateral damage."
The intentional lies that killed them all? Well, all presidents have lied, right? Why single out Bush?
As if yesterday's unpunished sins provide absolution for today's sinners.
The Constitution they swore an oath to support and defend that now hangs by a thread? Can't be bothered. They have a White House to win.
And you're a threat to their misguided quest because you have a clue. They can't handle that. They're at least smart enough to know that with you, they can't get away with a bunch of condescending double talk, a handshake and a pat on the back, sending you on your way, like they do with most who visit their debate clubhouse on Capitol Hill.
You would think that if they can grasp that much, they would be able to grasp that the way you send John McCain packing for good is by forcing him to defend his support of the offenses for which Bush and Cheney are facing unquestionably justified impeachment charges.
It's so stunningly elementary that it's leading millions to finally believe something you have been saying for years:
There's really only one party in Washington.

This is just another example of how low our political process has descended and it further adds evidence that Nader is right; the two Parties are beyond repair. Select out the 60 or so valiant Representatives and 20 or so Senators and there you have the real Democratic Party. What trust can we put into the Parties? Their highest value is to preserve their existence. This value is greater than preserving and respecting the Constitution that they swore to uphold, greater than holding lawbreakers accountable, greater than any other value you can think of. Their highest value in crass terns is simply to preserve their own hides.
When will we finally get it?
You'll be in good company in the audience. It might even make some folks take the law a bit more seriously knowing you are watching. Maybe not, but can't hurt. Hope you will be in DC on Friday.
Thank you in advance.

We agree that Mr. Nader ought to attend the impeachment hearings. It is not acceptable that Mr. Nader is uninvited, especially since he has been at the forefront in calling for impeachment. This is not the first time Mr. Nader has been shunned, and excluded, which only points out how corrupt our two party duopoly system is. Have you noticed that the media- both mainstream and so-called "progressive" media has either ignored or trivialized the Nader/Gonzalez Presidential campaign? And, there has been no mention of the recent Bonusgate Scandal in PA by the "alternative" media, which proves that the Democratic Party- using taxpayer money- intentionally kept Mr. Nader off the ballots in 2004, as well as Mr. Romanelli in 2006. It is time to also expose the draconian and anti-democratic ballot access laws which are designed to keep independent third parties out. We want Ralph Nader to be present July 25 at the impeachment hearings right along with Dennis Kucinich. Why has Libertarian candidate Bob Barr been invited, and not Ralph Nader? There is something really wrong with this picture.
