H Con Res 362 Support Dwindling
Steve Cohen (TN-9) and Tom Allen (ME-1) both withdrew from HConRes 362 yesterday! That's in addition to Wm. Lacy Clay (MO-1) from 2 weeks ago, not to mention Barney Frank and Robert Wexler.
Representative Allen: "I cosponsored H. Con. Res. 362 because I believe that the Iranian regime poses very real threats to stability in the region and that it is in our national security interest to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. However, there is language in this resolution that may imply Congressional approval of a blockade of Iran. I want to be perfectly clear about where I stand: I believe our nation should be engaging in tough diplomatic talks with Iran that will permanently dismantle that country's nuclear weapons program, and that sanctions should be part of that strategy. However, I do not support the idea of a blockade. Since the resolution has not been amended to address these concerns, yesterday, I removed my name as a cosponsor."

Keep in mind Barney Frank and Robert Wexler have not officially withdrawn their support of 362. They are still cosponsors, but are working to get the language that adds up to a blockade removed and I think Wexler wants to add language regarding negotiations. Wexler and Frank have said if those changes are not made they will not 'support' it.
Unfortunately, those issues are not the only thing wrong with the resolution.
I'm not even sure Wexler in his Huffington Post/OpEdNews post said he would withdraw his name if changes are not made. It may just be that he won't vote for it. Having spoken to him directly a week or so before his decision, I truly believe his heart is in the right place, but I would like to see him take a more definitive approach like those below.
The only reps who have actually withdrawn support are Clay, Allen and Cohen.
Also, the scary thing is that since Wexler's criticism of the language in 362 on June 9, 28 members of Congress added their names to the resolution.
Allen's action to withdraw his support follows a June 24 speech by Herbert Hoffman, his independent opponent for election to the U.S. Senate, in which Hoffman condemned Allen's position for co-sponsoring a resolution that could be construed as an act of war.
A link to information on Hoffman's speech is below.
Hoffman is an anti-was, pro-impeachment advocate running as an independnet against Allen and Susan Collins for the Senate seat in Maine.
