Kucinich to Present Impeachment Case to Panel

Democratic leaders have agreed to give Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich a day before the House Judiciary Committee to make his case that President Bush ought to be impeached for allegedly lying to Congress in order to get approval to invade Iraq.
Kucinich, D-Ohio, has introduced three impeachment resolutions — one against Bush (HRes 1258) and two against Vice President Dick Cheney (H Res 333, H Res 799) — all of which have been referred to committee and then ignored.
On Thursday, Kucinich complied with a rule requiring him to give notice before filing another article of impeachment, which he intends to do on July 14. Earlier Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., said Judiciary Chairman John Conyers Jr. , D-Mich., likely would review the matter before his committee.
Kucinich contends that Pelosi’s blessing demonstrates the desire on Capitol Hill to hold the administration accountable for allegedly lying to Congress.
“When Congress is reminded that a case for war was made based on information that has been categorically proven to be untrue, Congress will then want to reflect on its power and responsibility,” Kucinich said.
But Democratic House leaders downplayed the possibility of actual impeachment proceedings. “It is my expectation that there will be some review of it in the committee,” Pelosi said. “Not necessarily taking up the articles of impeachment, because that would have to be voted on the floor, but to have some hearings on the subject.”
“The chairman may be holding hearings. Whether he holds impeachment hearings would be another question,” Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer , D-Md., said Thursday.

Tim Russert will be remembered as a footnote in American History (if there is a history to remember in 50 years) as being one of the major media complicit enablers of the BushCo Fascist takeover of the American Republic.
Dennis Kucinich will be remembered as the one Congressperson who stood up and defended the Constitution and called bullshit on the rogue government's coup.
Depending on how things play out over the next six months Kucinich will either be honored in American History texts for helping to save the Republic and compared to Washington, Jefferson, Thomas Paine, et al.... Or he too will become a footnote in a much darker story of how Congress participated in bringing about the End of America.
History will still be written, long after we are dead and gone. As far as Kucinich goes, I'm going with footnote, if that. Most people would be lucky to even have that in a narrative history book.

I don't believe your all CAPS suggestion is worth supporting and remember I helped Dennis get on ballot in Virginia. He is one of my few heroes.

In the closing days of the 110th Democratic Congress, Conyers sits there, with his title and the power of his Chairmanship, and listens respectfully and carefully to what the Veterans for Peace have to say, each and every one, even wanted to hear from those in the back of the room, one by one, but after all was said and done, the grievous charges made, the consequences of inaction spelled out, the overwhelming evidence mounting to the high ceilings of his Judiciary Committee Chambers, a "should have..." John "hem & haw" Conyers announced yet again that he is not yet convinced that the crimes and misconduct alleged are such that he must take any action at all to hold a simple impeachment hearing to weigh the charges and the evidence.
Conyers has now become a highly skilled specialist at listening to the familiar litany of high crimes and official misconduct and not blinking an eye.
Instead of immediately becoming outraged at the crimes alleged against the Constitution and the American people by an imperial presidency, completely unaccountable to the American people for anything, and an abomination to a free and peace loving nation, and ordering 24/7 impeachment hearings starting immediately, he proposes yet another meeting, and another with the Veterans for Peace, on July 25 at 12 noon.
No doubt, more listening, more hemming and hawing, even more meetings to be scheduled, but a final decision to hold an impeachment hearing is yet to be made on whether or not he will ACT in time on his constitutional duties.

Cheney was wrong to have selected Israel as any kind of partner in crime. The House Judiciary Committee's Chairman Conyers has failed to act appropriately or in a reasonable timely fashion to Rep Dennis Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment for over a year now and the Zionist controlled lamestream media has been trying to censor the issue.
"Off the table Pelosi" continues to deliberately obstruct justice, has signed off on torture, spying, etc. and only follows orders from a foreign government.

Even if we could get these murderous thugs into a domestic federal court, the jurisdiction would be limited to the murder of 4,100 + American soldiers based on "implied malice". The "Bush Administration's" epic corruption has contaminated the rule of law so badly that the domestic court's ability to conduct a fair trial can no longer be trusted. This is a job for International Courts.

In my opinion, refusing to consider impeachment is tantamount to abolishing the standards of official conduct. If you announce, nay, pledge, that "Impeachment is off the Table" are you not saying that you will not enforce any of the standards? While the Speaker does have the authority to bring forth Articles of Impeachment, she does not have the Constitutional authority to UNILATERALLY, eliminate any provision of the Constitution. I think a class action civil suit should be brought against Nancy Pelosi on those grounds, if she and the HJC refuse to hold hearings. It is never too late to do the right thing. And it is just as wrong for Demz torefuse to impeach for partisan reasons and political gain, as it was for Repugs to impeach for partisan reasons. This provision of the Constitution is not optional, to be used for politcal revenge, when convenient. It is imperative, in the face of wrongdoing, however inconvenient.

In terms of hearings for impeachment, I have heard that when a hearing is held in congress for impeachment that the president cannot claim executive privilege, and that people have to testify. Is this true?
As far as I understand it that is true and it is an advantage over a simple investigative hearing, (video starts) and of course they are not supposed to perjure themselves. That doesn't mean that the witnesses who come forward -- who are subpoenaed and come forward - will tell the truth. It does mean that they are subject in theory to perjury charges. But it does mean that the administration cannot order people not to come. That's very important.
Because the purpose of whether it's impeachment hearings or investigative hearings into crimes of the government which John Conyers has talked about. Right? I was in a meeting where he talked about that - having them; said he would have them, but, haven't happened yet. Investigative hearings on crimes that may have been committed, fine; and that - would almost inevitably point to impeachment and that will make them just as leery of holding those hearings as they are of impeachment hearings.
But, if you did hold the impeachment hearings you could get these people; and he could not order people, as Bush has done, not to appear.The importance of that is that there are people who would love to tell the truth if they are subpoenaed, and, if they can't be fired for appearing. And those are the people to get.
A friend of mine is very anxious to see Cheney under oath. I said, I wouldn't give a dime for that. The chance of getting the truth out of Cheney under oath, you know, is just negligible.
But there are a lot of people who would be happy to tell if they were pressed to do it.

Not only would Spiro Agnew and Richard Nixon have remained in Office, had John Conyers held the Chairman position back in the 1970s, but the horror of the Vietnam War would have gone on for at least another 3 years - with no pressure ever placed on Nixon.
John Conyers protection of Dick Cheney and George Bush, must forever condemn him in history as a tyrant and traitor.

Congress has less than 35 days left to work this year, think they are going to hold impeachment hearings? That's right...35 days before the election. They are only signing on now because they want our votes, and know nothing will come of it.
Between the Patriot Act, no impeachment and FISA, the war is over. We have lost our country, and facing totalitarian dicatorshop. 2000 was a bloodless coup, but plenty of blood has been spilled since. Millions of Iraq citizens are homeless, innumerable numbers killed or wounded. Over 4100 American veterans are dead while many cannot get decent medical care when horribly maimed....Bush is going to veto another bill that tries to help them.
I wrote a letter to Obama outlining what I have written here many times before outlining the balance of power is destroyed forever with FISA and no impeachment. I got a letter back assuring me he would be careful with the powers, to trust him....etc. What a joke.
What will happen when the machines are rigged to make McSame win as Bush did in 2004? Think he will give us our civil rights back? If people protest, they will declare martial law; that is why they are quartering Blackwater troops into every state of the union. Mercenary or foreign troops historically are used to protect oppressors, not the oppressed.
It's over. We have lost the war, FISA was a bigger threat to our freedom than the lack of impeachment of Bush/Cheney. Suddenly embracing impeachment takes the minds of the people off the terrible realities of FISA. The congress is rotten to the core, I have unsubscribed to all their newsletters, I have better things to do,like doing my own work, and establishing where I will be living within four years, it certainly will not be America. This is quickly becoming a terrible place to live; and I am not sticking around for it.
