"Democratic lawmakers to introduce bill to cut funds for Iraq agreement

Two Democratic members of Congress are threatening to cut off funds for implementation of an agreement that the White House is currently negotiating with the government of Iraq, if it isn’t submitted to Congress. The agreement sets terms for the long-term presence of U.S. troops in the country.

Reps. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) will announce the introduction of the bill Thursday. Delahunt, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights, and Oversight, Delahunt has held five hearings on the agreement.

In February, DeLauro authored a letter to the White House, signed by more than 50 members of the House, asking it to consult with Congress on the agreement.

Last week, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Caif.) introduced a resolution that would put the House on record opposing the agreement."
