PETITION: Don’t Send 3000 NJ National Guard Troops to Iraq in June!
To: New Jersey Governor Corzine
Don’t Send 3000 NJ National Guard Troops to Iraq in June.
The Governors have succeeded in repealing Sec 1076 that gave the President control of National Guard troops for DOMESTIC emergencies. Now we urge them to De-federalize the national Guard by repealing the "Authorization of 2002" to stop sending National Guard to Iraq.
Governor Corzine, do not sacrifice one more young man or woman to the War in Iraq. This war has been mismanaged from the beginning and continues to spin out of control. Do not send one-half of the NJ National Guard to Iraq in June, (3000 of 6000 people).
Do not acquiesce to a lame-duck administration that has consistently operated in secret, persisted in illegal war, spawned the destabilization of Iraq and promoted illegal incarcerations and torture, endangering our troops.
The Bush administration has flagrantly ignored the will of the American People to end this war. Rather than deploy NJ National Guard in June, join at least eight other states to de-federalize the National Guard, and work to establish immediate international negotiations to end this war.
Governor Corzine, stand up to George W. Bush for the people of New Jersey. Don't sacrifice even one more of our neighbors to this illegal war that continues to bleed our budgets, our people and to ruin life for Iraqi children and civilians.
Adults everywhere need to take action to end this war. Governor, take the lead and resist the June deployment. The people of New Jersey will support you and our troops will be grateful to you for protecting their best interests (See reverse side for details). Also, please work for the immediate repeal of Sec. 1076 of the Dept of Defense Appropriate of 2007 that allows the President to seize control of the Nat’l Guard during any state-specific emergency.
Sincerely, The Undersigned

Thank you for alerting us to this travesty, NatureBoy.
IMPEACH BUSHCO & RICO PNAC/AIPAC>"OUT" ANTI-AMERICAN CABALS!
WE MUST DEFEAT MCCAIN!!!
Thanks Yank--
It's indeed a travesty.
It's time we all demanded no more deployments, but deploying state National Guard in a gratuitous foreign in vasion is so absurd even the hawks must realize this.
One note: Though the petition asks where your Zip Code in NJ is, I had no problem signing even though I'm not from NJ, but from the surrounding tristate area--
Hope everyone will sign and send a message to Gov. Corzine that he needs to do everything in his power to stop this!

Almost 1,000 people in New Jersey have signed copies of this petition to NOT Send 3,000 of the NJ National Guard to Iraq.
People have circulated the petition at meetings, concerts, around to post offices, on college campuses, at religious institutions, at grocery stores, movies -- everywhere we can reach out to people. Many times people have grabbed the pen out of our hands wanting to sign. Other times we have met people who have lost their own children in Iraq -- and they say, "Let me sign; I don't want this to happen to another parent."
On-line, we have almost 300 signatures. Also, there, people have left incredible comments. They show a side of our country that never makes the evening news.
Please forward the www.njpetition.org site to your e-mail contacts so people can easily find and sign the online petition. If your contacts live in NJ, they can download a copy of the petition to use to gather signatures in their own communities. Also on www.njpetition.org are links to news items about the petition drive and a link to the video "Before You Enlist".
The next benchmark for returning hard copy petitions is April 30th, to NJ Peace Action at 673 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. The info about returning the signed petitions is on the bottom of the printed version of the petition.
We hope to have at least 3,000 signatures to deliver to the Governor at the end of April -- at least one signature for every person who is on the list to be deployed to Iraq. These are signatures of people who don't want our neighbors, friends, family to be subjected to this horrific war and all that it has brought the world:
hundreds of thousands(probably over a million) Iraqi children and civilians killed,
millions wounded, injured and made ill,
millions more made homeless and traumatized,
over 4,000 US soldiers killed,
almost 70,000 US Soldiers wounded, injured, or ill (www.warcomeshome.org),
over 1.2 million US troops have rotated through Iraq, many left to live with the trauma of what they have seen and what they have been ordered to do for the rest of their lives.
And, as in any war, it falls to wives, mothers, children and other families members to pick up the pieces. Many now are saying no: Not one more person -- here or in Iraq -- to be sacrificed to this.
You don't need to live in NJ to sign the on-line petition -- although, the vast majority do. We have had people from as far away as San Francisco sign this. Anyone is welcome to weigh in. It affects all of us.
