Santa Cruz City Council Asks for Bush Impeachment

By Sherry Conable

On Tuesday, September 27th, the SC City Council voted unanimously to
send, once again, their letter to the House Judiciary Committee asking
for investigation of the Bush Regime with regard to the possibility of
beginning impeachment procedures. They are resending the six original
questions they asked to have investigated, and adding some new ones.
When I get a copy of what goes out, I will send it to everyone.

Channel 8 news was there and did an evening show, and the Watsonville
Register-Pajaronian has a story today ( - I
have not seen either yet. The SC Sentinel failed to cover it, just as
they did with the National Guard resolution in July. I called and
asked why - they said they thought other local news had greater
interest for people in the city - I pointed out that a great number of
people and groups here feel very strongly about this war and this
administration and are very active in the peace movement, and they said
to stay in touch - hmmm...

Myself and a Vietnam vet spoke briefly on the issue, and then there
were brief comments by council members - they had a packed agenda and
needed to move on. Tim Fitzmaurice, however, did suggest that they
send the letter this time "certified, return receipt required", and
that he would even kick in the money to do so - that got quite a few

One interesting thing for me was that I did not know most of the people
in the council chambers, which was about half full, and after the
unanimous vote, almost everyone there burst into very heartfelt

in solidarity - power to the people!!
