'Peace Mom' Cindy Sheehan Meets McCain

Peace mom Cindy Sheehan didn't change her opposition to the war in Iraq after meeting Tuesday with one of its supporters, Sen. John McCain, a Vietnam veteran whom she called "a warmonger."

Sheehan thanked McCain for meeting with her, but she came away disappointed.

"He tried to tell us what George Bush would have said," Sheehan, who protested at the president's Texas home over the summer, told reporters. "I don't believe he believes what he was telling me."

McCain, R-Ariz., also seemed disappointed in the meeting, which he said had been misrepresented as including some of his constituents. Only one person in her small delegation has ties to the state, and that person no longer lives there.

The two exchanged views about the war, and McCain described the conversation as "a rehash" of opinions already well known. He said he might not have met with Sheehan had he known none of his constituents was in the group.

Although McCain has criticized the handling of the Iraq war, he has supported President Bush's call to stop terrorism abroad before it reaches the U.S. Sheehan, whose son, Casey, died in Iraq last year, has energized the anti-war movement with her call for troops to be brought home.

"He is a warmonger, and I'm not," Sheehan said after meeting with McCain. "I believe this war is not keeping America safer."

"She's entitled to her opinion," McCain said. "We just have fundamental disagreements."

Sheehan's conference with McCain was one of several scheduled this week as part of her campaign to persuade members of Congress to explain the reasons for the war. She spoke before a massive anti-war rally Saturday on the National Mall and was arrested Monday demonstrating in front of the White House.

Sheehan and McCain had met once before, shortly after the funeral of her son. Sheehan said Tuesday that McCain told her then that her son's death was "like his buddies in Vietnam" and that he feared their deaths were "for nothing." McCain, however, denied he made such a statement.

I heard McCain talk tonight, and he thinks you're nuts! Calling a tortured P.O.W a "War Monger" is really delusional. Please get some help, you really need it.

He has to be tortured, being in the pathetic position of supporting a deserter like Bush, who's sold the U.S. armed forces into indentured servitude to foreign special interests!

John McCain never talks about it , but he was president of the New Citizenship Project, which initiated the PNAC:

Eventually, these fascists will torture and scapegoat each other> history is repeating itself.

McCain seems to have sold out...he will only say what Rove & co have told him to say...He kisses up to the ones who demeaned him in his ow
n political party. I used to admire him. I still believe he was honorable as a soldier, but I just cannot figure how he drifted so far from his own values and viewpoint.

RIcardo, you are more like REtardo.

McCain is more of an American than you will EVER be. He is about as close to a liberal Republican as you can get. But that isn't good enough for you people. I have been on this site time and time again. I provide real PROOF and you people come back with. Bush is a terrorist, you are a child, and you are losing... I find that hysterical because that is all you people have are words and no PROOF. NONE...And you wonder why you have to jump from one thing to the next but alway come up empty handed...

Richie "The Right Wing Kook" Rich

McCain likes the bottom of "W"'s boots lick lick kiss kiss and he
continues to keep them very clean.

Bush said McCain was a traitor in 2000 over and over until it became true. Bush has magical powers you know

And can tell you............He did it for publicity. He doesn't listen to us so why do you think he'd listen to anyone else.

He's a presidential wannabe.

John McCain is not to be trusted, he is truly a warmonger, unfortunately this former war hero did not learn a single thing in his five years as a POW at the Hanoi Hilton, too bad!

John McCain is not to be trusted, I am from Arizona and quickly lost interest in McCain when it became appearent his main interest was not in serving the interests of Arizona but in running for president. Every thing he say and does is for one purpose only, to increase his political capital for a run for the presidency. His kissing up to little George Stupid is pathetic and disgusting, little George must really get a kick out of that.

Unlike little George Stupid, John McCain served proudly in the Navy, dropping bombs on innocewnt Vietnam civilians, I wonder how many innocent weomen and children he has personally killed? And you want this man for president?

In 2001 John McCain was the subject of a recall petition drive, which I proudly signed. Unfortunately, after 9/11 the drive was quitely dropped, but those of us who signed the original recall petition have not forgotten.
