CNN Follows NBC in Uninviting Kucinich

I just spoke to Dennis Kucinich who told me he had been included in the upcoming CNN debate but has been uninvited. After a poll placed Kucinich at 4%, CNN quickly announced the criterion of 5% for participation in its next debate in South Carolina. The Kucinich campaign released this statement:

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Kucinich for President campaign filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission yesterday against CNN and its parent company, Time Warner, Inc., for arbitrarily establishing criteria for its scheduled Monday Presidential debate that will exclude the Democratic candidate from participation.
On Wednesday, the campaign was notified by CNN that its criteria included a showing of 5% or better in a national poll. In two polls completed earlier last week by CBS News/New York Times and by the Pew Research Center, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich scored 4%.
“The CNN criteria specifically exclude the diverse and anti-war voice of Mr. Kucinich and his grass-roots supporters,” according to the complaint. “The exclusion of Mr. Kucinich undermines the purpose of the (Federal Communications) Act and is a blatant violation of the Act, including its equal time provisions.” Also, “Mr. Kucinich is a successful candidate because of his anti-war message and strong criticism of the American healthcare system, issues that are not championed by his presidential primary opponents. In these and other policy issues, his opponents share very similar policy platforms that differ from Mr. Kucinich.”
The filing also points out that Kucinich was invited to participate in the upcoming South Carolina debate by the Congressional Black Caucus, which is co-sponsoring the event. The invitation, which he accepted on May 20, stated, in part that Kucinich “will be guaranteed a rare opportunity to present your message to millions of voters unfiltered by any political organization or by any news organization.”
The complaint also argues that the Monday event “is not a true presidential primary debate without including all credible candidates. Instead, it is effectively an endorsement of the candidates selected by CNN” and is a breach of the federal requirement “to operate in the public interest and to afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views of issues of public importance.”
The campaign is asking the FCC to order CNN to allow Kucinich to participate.
Kucinich told me the FCC refused this, so a court challenge may be needed. Or we could all let CNN know how we feel about it:

One low budget "action" that you kidz may want to try is:
1. Get a bunch of "business cards" printed up with a simple header of something like, "DID THEY FOOL YOU, TOO???" . . . then in smaller print something like "Tired of the LIES And Half Truths? Get the FACTS!!" (the funnier, the better)
2. Then list say four of YOUR favorite "Alternative" New Media NEWS Sources . . . (be sure to include www.afterdowningstreet.org, because this is, and always has been, a GREAT balanced source of information that a very wide range of "demographic" groups can digest without their "reactionary buttons" getting pushed too hard)
3. Leave these cards EVERYWHERE . .. coffee shops . . .on the newspaper vending machines . . community bulletin boards . . .hand them out at rallies and street fairs, school, church, work, gym, etc
4. Repeat . . . repeat . . . repeat . . .
Another action, that I haven't seen anyone talk about lately is the "Toy Soldier IMPEACH" tactic . . . go buy a bag of those "little green plastic toy soldiers" . . . print out a bunch of labels with the word "IMPEACH" on them . . . stick the labels on the soldier . . . and leave them EVERYWHERE . . .a variation is to print "IMPEACH" and with "www.afterdowningstreet.org" printed underneath it . . try not to make it too visually "busy" or it will lose the effect . . .;-)
But seriously folks, have you kidz even considered the possiblility that you may be "winning" and they've just got you "psyched-out"? . .. Just a thought . .. ;-)

This prior CNN audience on the video sounds like they are 110% in support of Kucinich.
Clearly we the people have to start standing up en masse against the corporate media and the FCC that looks the other way.
My best guess would be to stop by dennis4president.com and make a campaign contribution (perhaps you can flag it "FCC battle" or some such). As far as I know, these various challenges Kucinich has been forced to make are all paid for from the campaign coffers. Please someone correct me if I'm mistaken.
You once answered one of my other posts saying that: "Dennis believes he can win within the Democratic party". Well, given the Texas Democrats keeping him off the ballot, I'm hoping his feelings have now changed. Denial has never worked for anyone, not even the GREAT ones like D.K.

Mr. Kucinich knows what he is doing, this is not his first rodeo. He is an elected official and does have a job back here in Ohio. I wish he were my representative, but he is not. He would like to serve his people in the best way possible.

Since the Congressional Black Caucus is a co-sponsor of the debate, it will be interesting to hear what they have to say about this.

Unfortunately, the Congressional Black Caucus has been effectively neutered during the past seven years, and it's been reduced to almost nothing, thanks in large part to Cong. If the Congressional Black Caucus has anything to say about the "uninviting" of Kucinich, it'll be interesting to hear, especially in the wake of the last Democratic Presidential debate aired on CNN when Dennis uttered the "I" word, much to the delight of the audience and the chagrin of Wolf Blitzer.
It appears to me that with CNN joining the gang of 'presidential debate' sponsors who have either set criteria that are weak & subjective, but exclusionary for Kucinich (Iowa), or those who have set the criteria and then raised the bar after Kucinich qualified (NBC, CNN) and those who have just left him out, that there is statistical evidence for MSM conspiracy which could be used in court. (excuse the run-on sentence)
I'm not as politically astute as many of you, so can someone direct me to a site that might list or in some way detail the 'debates' for this election season? I'd like to do a stat analysis and see if we have 'significant' findings. It may, or may not help in court, but I think it's worth a try.
This is all just too much. I only wish that the citizenry of this country had a clue as to how they are being manipulated by the corporate media. It's so blatant and yet so ignored!?! Go Figure!!

Ron Paul 2008, He's our only Hope
This year, impeachment is the litmus test. I promise not to vote for a single candidate that does not explicitly endorse impeachment. The excuse that it won't be necessary once they get into office is specious. Maybe Bush and Cheney will be out, but the need to impeach will live on until the great beast of Executive abuse of power is under control. ( I figure it will take at least a few impeachment cycles to restore the constitution.)
Let's see that leaves....Kucinich for president, Mark Lawrence for House, Cindy Sheehan and a handful of others.
While Mr. Paul has many qualities, he has not taken action on impeachment. That tells me he's not serious about defending liberties. How about Ron Paul supporters push him on this?

Sorry, just found, under FAQ on their site something else:
"the field will be full with viable candidates who have a legitimate shot at winning the party’s nomination" If they want to eliminate him they might refer to that statement as meaning it will be based on poll results and results in other primaries.
Then they plaster the candidates photos all over their front page to advertise and draw an audience.
I am concerned why Congressional Black Caucus Institute is not updating their own site. This debate is right around the corner, you'd think they'd be on their game?

The idea Americans get to pick their leaders is laughable. All the candidates who cared about the constitution, habeus corpus, civil rights, restoration of the republic, plight of the middle class, ending the Iraq war; have been eliminated by corporate interests using their media. 85% of the media is owned by right-wing, corporate interests. GE, Disney and Rupert Murdoc run the news in this country. If not for the Internet, we would have no voice anywhere.
Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich were blacked out by the media from the beginning. If it were not for Dennis Kucinich, there would be no impeachment bill in the house, (see if the corrupt congress will act on it?) no New Hampshire recount, and no voice for us at all. They are going to shove corporate stooges down our throats again. Another Clinton is enough to make me PUKE, yet the idea of a Romney or McCain is even worse.
If Clinton is the candidate, I am dropping out of politics, putting my house in order and leaving this country for good. I cannot stand the nightmare I see unfolding in front of us. Reliving Germany in the 1930's is too much for me; I have read and written too much history.
Dennis Kucinich is too honest and forthright for the powers that be. They will continue the wars, bleeding our economy into third-world status. That means feudal, no middle class. I loved what we once stood for; a beacon of enlightement for the rest of the world. I cannot live in totalatarian dicatatorship. The book 1984 ought to have been titled 2004; it would have been absolutely correct.
The "frontrunner" whores running for president illustrates what happens when people stop paying attention to the running of their country. Americans got too complacent, self-involved and selfish to pay attention to the growing corruption in our leadership. When Bush stole the WH in 2000, the corporate media, congress and the American people were silent. People like me who objected were given no voice. It was a bloodless coup, but Bush has managed to make up for the bloodless part in the deaths, injuries, and ruined lives of millions around the world.
Clinton and Obama are no better than Bush, they are carefully packaged by the corporations running our nation into ruin. John Edwards is being marginalized now; he speaks too many truths about the destruction of the middle class. He cannot be trusted to take orders.
Next month comes "super Tuesday." I see Clinton and Romney/McCain as the candidates. If Clinton or Obama are the democratic choices, the republicans will retain the WH. John Edwards is the only remaining Democratic candidate who could win the WH in this divided nation, but the right-wing powers want to keep the WH. The president has the powers of a dicatator, Bush has done exactly as he pleased. With no impeachment, the next one will continue the madness.
Both Clinton and Obama are too polarizing in a divided country, they will not win the "election", the democrats will blow it again, and the Republicans will keep the White House. Another Wall Street whore will finish destroying the middle class.
Eventually, there will be uprisings. When that happens, thanks to Bush's executive orders (without outcry from the corrupt congress or media), troops will be brought in to shoot down the protesters. As it stands, Bush can quarter Blackwater troops in anywhere in this country if he sees a threat to government.
On the backs of the US taxpayer, the Bush adminstration has established and paid for the largest private army in the world. Right now, we are trying to keep them out of California, they plan to give them a base here.

I am hoping that Dennis Kucinich will bide his time and play the game as best he can from the sidelines where they are keeping him until he decides it is the right time to break with the Democratic Party and join with a party that shares his ideals and values.
I would be delighted to see Dennis and Cynthia McKinney run together. What a great ticket they would be!

I do not know too much about Ms. McKinney, except of her parting shot when she left congress. I am a fan of hers. Mr. Kucinich will make us proud ... be patient.
I just found this on CNN in regard to the criteria used for inclusion in the Democratic Presidential debate in Los Angeles on January 31, 2008.
Note the last line and the 'brotherhood' of acceptable polls:
" The California Democratic Party has sanctioned the Democratic debate, which will take place January 31 in Los Angeles. CNN, the Los Angeles Times, and Politico are organizing these historic events.
The three media organizations said candidates will be invited if they place in one of the top four spots in an early voting state, and receive at least 5 percent in either a California survey conducted by the organizers or any one of 10 nationally identified media sponsored polls in January.
Organizers will determine Democratic eligibility based upon the Democratic National Committee's early calendar schedule that includes Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. For Republicans, the list of possible contests includes: Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina, and Florida.

and yet another "DISinvite!" This time by CNN and the Congressional Black Caucus ... and still, no voice from the DNC has been heard. I'm truly dumbfounded by how easily Kucinich is being DISmissed. Even the left-wing blogs don't seem to see the importance of this 'pre-selection' of the presidency by the MSM.
btw, I, too, will leave the (un)Democratic Party after the Oregon Presidential Primary on May 20, 2008.
... and speaking of May 20th; it was May 20th, 2007 that the Congressional Black Caucus first INVITED Kucinich to participate. The following is a quote taken from www.dennis4president.com. It is a part of his filing with the FCC:
"....Kucinich was invited to participate in the upcoming South Carolina debate by the Congressional Black Caucus, which is co-sponsoring the event. The invitation, which he accepted on May 20, stated, in part that Kucinich “will be guaranteed a rare opportunity to present your message to millions of voters unfiltered by any political organization or by any news organization.”"
These are very sad and distressing days in the history of this country.
