We made history yesterday!

Thirty-five Congress Members attended a hearing organized by AfterDowningStreet.org and Congressman John Conyers. The hearing examined the question of whether there is good cause to investigate possible impeachable offenses by the President in his justification of the war.

Congressman Charles Rangel said at the hearing, "Quite frankly, evidence that appears to be building up points to whether or not the president has deliberately misled Congress to make the most important decision a president has to make, going to war."

Seven Congress Members, immediately after the hearing, proceeded to the White House, where Conyers delivered a letter, bearing 122 Congress Members' signatures and those of 560,000 Americans. The letter demanded answers to the troubling facts presented in the Downing Street Minutes. These seven members then joined the AfterDowningStreet.org coalition and several hundred supporters at a rally in Lafayette Square Park.

And we awoke the mainstream media! They are now asking questions at White House press brifings, writing articles, and chattering away on the broadcast media.

We did all of this in exactly three weeks, and we're exhausted but exhilerated. However, this is the beginning, not the end, and if we are going to be able to continue, we will need funding.

This is a turning point.

If you were unable to listen to or watch yesterday's hearing by the minority members of the House Judicial Sub-committee you missed an historic event. Four very brave and highly credible witnesses testified to the matters surrounding the Downing Street Memo and subsequently released supporting information.

As one congressman pointed out yesterday, this transcends partisan politics; it affects every American regardless of party affiliation. Studies suggest that the views of the majority of Americans are not fully represented by either of the two main parties so it is particularly important to include those disaffected people within this effort to reclaim our government and once again bring our country in-line with strict Constitutional precepts.

It's incumbent on each of us to recognize and be inspired by the those who both sat on and testified before the committee. It's our duty and responsibility as Citizens to reach out, inform, and include every American in this process of taking our country back. Our collective futures depend on our success.

LEFT COAST UPDATE....AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT..BUT JUST THE FIRST STEP.
You have the thanks of a grateful, and hopefully better informed and awakened, Nation.
For those interested in MSM coverage. Even the San Francisco Chronicle,
(AKA..The Chronically Challenged) had extensive coverage today including full text of DSM. >sfgate.com<.
Hope you guys copped some ZZZ's. As Maxine said "Let's take it to the streets" Let's close this mother DOWN.
Peace and Power to the Patriotic and Persistent.

I feel priviledged to have been a part of this historical event! Very proud of you and Congressman Conyers!!

The blonde woman, retired fed, who spoke of a British counterpart resigning and called for impeachment-anyone catch her name? I believe I served in the Army with her and am terribly proud that she stood up yesterday along with the others.

Hi
her name was Anne Wright, Dissent in Democracy was the "group" she was representing, keast htat's what the C-Span screen had.

Wow wasn't she telling it like it is!!??

Kim

Where can we find out who the 122 brave Members of Congress where who signed the petition, and/or the members who participated in the hearing?

I listened to this historic hearing on C-Span Radio and I was so proud, so elated, so encouraged to hear Americans speak truth to power and rally around that truth to demand an inquiry into this administration's blatant high crimes of lying to congress outlined in the Downing Street Minutes. Though Bush supporters insist the war in Iraq has made our country safer, using no new attacks on our soil as proof, they ignore the overthrow of our constitution and the undermining of our personal freedoms at the hands of this administration which are systematically destroying our democracy from within. We must keep pressure on the mainstream media to follow the facts to their natural conclusion - the impeachment and prosecution of the traitors in the White House.

It was a remarkable feat, especially in the face of all efforts by the enemies of the constitution to stifle free speech, enemies of truth and decency to sweep revealing information on how the neocon neo-fascist thugs concocted a devastating illegal war under the rug, and the despicable role of the collaborationists media (see, for example the demeaning reporting of the hearing in today’s Washington Post).

Two things stood out to me: One is the question rep. Jim Moran raised and the answer given by Mr. McGovern. We as Americans must expose the real reason for this war, and the drumbeat of more war that the same cabal is sounding, why Americans are dying in the desserts of the Middle East, why we are killing and enabling killing of innocent human beings in the region. Related to this issue is why the need for expansion of the US military (who do we expect will attack us and why?); whether to support draft or the on-going buying of our young people by the military, especially the disadvantaged ones, to become fodder for the monstrous policies of the fascist elements that have taken over the Republican Party; and, and what “patriotism” mean in the context of politics of lies, corruption murder and mayhem.

The other question follows from the testimony of every one in the panel: this is an illegal war! And if so, should not Bush, Chaney, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice, Wolfowitz, Perl, Fith and all the others involved in the conspiracy to kill thousands of human beings and actually carrying out a war to kill and injure thousands of innocent human beings be bought to justice by trying them for war crimes? Even if the International Court at the Hague is unable to act at this time, at least a “Court of the People of the World” should be set up composed of jurists from the world community and charges should be brought against these criminals.

"Fixed" in this context clearly means "attached." Intelligence might be rigged, but a fact by definition cannot be.

The author (who, as a foreigner, has no way of knowing of intelligence was being rigged anyway) is saying the intelligence and facts are being attached to the policy to support it.

End of story. Next time, maybe try a dictionary or thesarus.

Hell, why didn't you just ask the guy who wrote the memo? It's not exactly secret any more.
