Wexler Wants Hearings

Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), all members of the House Judiciary Committee, have created a website calling for impeachment hearings for Vice President Cheney:

WEXLER WANTS HEARINGS

Visit the website to read their op-ed and sign the petition in support of their efforts. They began with a goal of 50,000 signatures; in just three days they've gotten 90,000, and now are aiming for 250,000.

Jonathan, is this effort completely separate from Kucinich's efforts? If yes, what is the point in having fragmented efforts to get impeachment hearings going? By joining Wexler's effort, do we lessen the overall effort, such as the ones being made by Kucinich and others?

It would be great if we could get a summation of all the impeachment hearings efforts that are out there, so we can decide how to be a part of a collective effort, rather than a fragmented one.

Thanks.

Rep. Wexler stood up and urged impeachment hearings in direct response to Kucinich's privileged resolution on November 6. Following that, Wexler sent out an impeachment poll to his constituents - 61% wanted it and he has been speaking out since. As far as I know he did not pen his name to H. Res. 333/799, but he is on the judiciary committee where it sits and is urging Conyers to move it forward.

Tammy Baldwin signed on to H. Res. 333. in August 2007 and is on the Judiciary Committee as well. Rep. Luis Gutierrez sits on Judiciary too. For 3 members of the Judiciary Committee to make this strong statement is very important in my opinion. I also think it is positive that they seem to be opening the door to Bush as well by calling out the "Bush administration." They also mention high crimes of Cheney that are not included within 333/799 such as warrantless wiretapping. I don't think there should be any concern about dividing loyalties here. We just need to keep pressure on members of Congress and particularly the Judiciary.

This is not fragmented. It was explained on the Randi Rhodes radio show today when she interviewed Representative Wexler. He is on the House Judiciary Committee, which Representative John Conyers chairs. Because The House has taken impeachment "off the table" and has left Dennis Kucinich's impeachment resolution in limbo in the House Judiciary Committee, Representative Wexler has decided to launch a website that will encompass all impeachment efforts and mobilize everyone. So, this is not separate from Kucinich's resolution, but a part of it.

Also mentioned on the Randi Rhodes show today is the fact that Representative Wexler, along with two other Judiciary Committee members, wrote an op-ed about this impeachment issue but the top newspapers refused to publish it! More proof of conglomerate corporate America's ownership and influence!

It is no strange coincidence House Judiciary Committee members Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin are ratcheting up the pressure on House Speaker Nancy "Do Nothing" Pelosi to hold impeachment hearings against VP Darth Cheney just one day after Dennis Kucinich was excluded from the Iowa debate.

Have no doubt: the Democratic Party is splintering BIG TIME and this is a good thing. Let the chips fall where they may, that truth might win out.

If you are burned out with this impeachment thing, then drink more coffee and get back in the ring.

KUCINICH SUPPORTERS! Representatives Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin have given us a HUGE gift... This is power to snatch victory from the jaws of the Iowa debate defeat.

Thanks for you advice, I just finished the survey and succeeded in submitting.

a fellow impeacher just reminded me that we ought to print out the op-ed that wexler et al wrote and send copies to our own reps. also, this can be used as a springboard for our own op-eds in our local papers.

and, a reminder to all that if you have contact with your representative in Congress regarding impeachment, please drop me a line at southjerseyimpeach@comcast.net so it can be added to our Member of Congress database.

As the House Judiciary Committee continues to refuse any action on
proposals to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, three of that panel's
members tried to take their case to influential op-ed pages of the
nation's largest newspapers.

They were turned down by every one -- including the New York Times,
Washington Post and Miami Herald -- so now one of the lawmakers has
taken his campaign to the Internet.

Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) on Friday launched a new Web site,
WexlerWantsHearings.com to advance his call to impeach Cheney. The
site hosts an op-ed article censored by the nation's major newspapers
and outlines the case for impeaching Cheney.

"The truth is the mainstream media have no interest in this issue,"
Wexler said Friday.

"They have bought into the notion that impeachment hearings are
outside the bounds of what the congress ought to be doing," the
six-term Congressman elaborated during a conference call Friday.

The House Judiciary Committee has before it a resolution introduced by
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) calling for Cheney's impeachment and
accusing the vice president of a raft of high crimes, including
manipulating intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq war, obstructing
federal investigations and conspiring to expose the identity of covert
CIA agent Valerie Plame.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said impeachment in strictly off the
table, and the Judiciary Committee seems unlikely to move forward with
any hearings. Wexler encouraged impeachment supporters to sign a
petition on his new site to allay the notions of Democratic leaders
that impeachment supporters are little more than "a fringe, marginal
group of people."

Wexler said the House has the constitutional obligation to begin
impeachment hearings to investigate malfeasance within the Bush
administration, and he blamed the lack of enthusiasm thus far on the
"bad taste" left by the GOP's last impeachment crusade.

"People are just afraid that we would just be putting the shoe on the
other foot and just doing ... what the Republicans did to Bill
Clinton," Wexler told the conference call, which was organized by
Democrats.com.

The "kangaroo court" Republicans used to impeach Clinton, on grounds
that he lied about his liaison with an intern, cannot become the
precedent by which the constitutional tool is judged, Wexler said.

Although Bush and Cheney will be leaving the White House for good in
13 months, Wexler said impeachment hearings were necessary because of
the need to ferret out possible criminality in the administration.

"We have to follow the evidence where it leads," he said. "We have an
obligation to do it, and to do it as thoroughly as possible."

really glad wexler is doing this and also addressing the media issue, but "truth is" when i read, "The truth is the mainstream media have no interest in this issue," Wexler said Friday." all i could think was "really? no sh*t!"

it's just so bizarre when something we have been battling for years finally makes it to the lips of a politician suddenly it's a valid complaint. anyway, let's all do what we can with this and work it hard.

It's very heartening to see Rep. Wexler finally realizing the absolute necessity of removing Dick Cheney from office, and joining Rep. Kucinich in the impeachment efforts. Nice to know that all those protests by his constituencies had the desired effect.

Keep in mind that the great potential to make positive changes by using the principle of the "mass effect" in order to really mobilize the population to demand -- and work for -- the ouster of Cheney is feasable and within reach. The U.S. population is already enraged because of the lack of action on the part of the Democrats to do the job which they expected them to do when they won that virtual landslide in the 2006 mid-term elections, and they will, I think, gladly join in the efforts to oust Cheney, because the reality of the follies which Cheney has inflicted upon the American people are really starting to hit home, and with each passing day, standards of living are lowering to the point where middle-aged people (according to a medical report released today) are committing suicide in higher numbers than young people and the elderly.

I also agree that we've got to work with this and work it as hard as we can, and not get caught up in the consumer-driven insanity which the holiday season seems to bring. The stakes are far too high to let mediocrity dominate our efforts to get Cheney out of office before he leads the U.S. into a 21st Century Peloponnesian War with Iran, while at the same time, his "Revolution In Military Affairs" agenda wrecks what's left of the professional military and replaces it with corporrate-run militias which answer to no one except the corporations who fund and supply them.

Time is short, because the Iowa Caucus is less than a month away, and we've got those front-loaded state primary elections which will dominate the latter half of January through the end of February, so, there's really no time to waste. Let's get to work!

The Nation
House Judiciary Trio Calls for Impeach Cheney Hearings
by John Nichols

Three senior members of the House Judiciary Committee have called for the immediate opening of impeachment hearings for Vice President Richard Cheney.

Democrats Robert Wexler of Florida, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin on Friday distributed a statement, “A Case for Hearings,” that declares, “The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.”

In particular, the Judiciary Committee members cite the recent revelation by former White House press secretary Scott McClellan that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information about the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a covert agent as part of a White House campaign to discredit her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson. On the basis of McClellan’s statements, Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin say, “it is even more important for Congress to investigate what may have been an intentional obstruction of justice.” The three House members argue that, “Congress should call Mr. McClellan to testify about what he described as being asked to ‘unknowingly [pass] along false information.’”

Adding to the sense of urgency, the members note that “recent revelations have shown that the Administration including Vice President Cheney may have again manipulated and exaggerated evidence about weapons of mass destruction — this time about Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”

Although Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin are close to Judiciary Committee chair John Conyers, getting the Michigan Democrat to open hearings on impeachment will not necessarily be easy. Though Conyers was a leader in suggesting during the last Congress that both President Bush and Vice President Cheney had committed impeachable offenses, he has been under immense pressure from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, to keep Constitutional remedies for executive excesses “off the table” in this Congress.

It is notable, however, that Baldwin maintains warm relations with Pelosi and that Wexler, a veteran member of the Judiciary Committee has historically had an amiable and effective working relationship with Conyers. There is no question that Conyers, who voted to keep open the impeachment debate on November 7, has been looking for a way to explore the charges against Cheney. The move by three of his key allies on the committee may provide the chairman with the opening he seeks, although it is likely he will need to hear from more committee members before making any kind of break with Pelosi — or perhaps convincing her that holding hearings on Cheney’s high crimes and misdemeanors is different from putting a Bush impeachment move on the table.

The most important immediate development, however, is the assertion of an “ask” for supporters of impeachment. Pulled in many directions in recent months, campaigners for presidential and vice presidential accountability have focused their attention on supporting a House proposal by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nod, to impeach Cheney. When Kucinich forced consideration of his resolution on November 7, Pelosi and her allies used procedural moves to get it sent to the Judiciary Committee for consideration. Pelosi’s hope was that the proposal would disappear into the committee’s files.

The call for hearings by Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin puts impeachment on the table, at least as far as activists are concerned, creating a pressure point that can serve as a reply when House Democrats who are critical of Bush but cautious about impeachment ask: “What do you want me to do?” The answer can now be: “Back the call for Judiciary Committee hearings on whether to impeach Dick Cheney?”

“Some of us were in Congress during the impeachment hearings of President Clinton. We spent a year and a half listening to testimony about President Clinton’s personal relations. This must not be the model for impeachment inquires. A Democratic Congress can show that it takes its constitutional authority seriously and hold a sober investigation, which will stand in stark contrast to the kangaroo court convened by Republicans for President Clinton. In fact, the worst legacy of the Clinton impeachment - where the GOP pursued trumped up and insignificant allegations - would be that it discourages future Congresses from examining credible and significant allegations of a constitutional nature when they arise,” write Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin.

“The charges against Vice President Cheney are not personal,” the House members add. “They go to the core of the actions of this Administration, and deserve consideration in a way the Clinton scandal never did. The American people understand this, and a majority support hearings according to a November 13 poll by the American Research Group. In fact, 70 percent of voters say that Vice President Cheney has abused his powers and 43 percent say that he should be removed from office right now. The American people understand the magnitude of what has been done and what is at stake if we fail to act. It is time for Congress to catch up.”

Arguing that hearings need not distract Congress, Wexler, Gutierrez and Baldwin note that the focus is on Cheney for a reason: “These hearings involve the possible impeachment of the Vice President — not our commander in chief — and the resulting impact on the nation’s business and attention would be significantly less than the Clinton Presidential impeachment hearings.”

They also argue, correctly, that the hearings are necessary if Congress is to restore its position in the Constitutionally-defined system of checks and balances.

“Holding hearings would put the evidence on the table, and the evidence — not politics — should determine the outcome,” the Judiciary Committee members explain. “Even if the hearings do not lead to removal from office, putting these grievous abuses on the record is important for the sake of history. For an Administration that has consistently skirted the constitution and asserted that it is above the law, it is imperative for Congress to make clear that we do not accept this dangerous precedent. Our Founding Fathers provided Congress the power of impeachment for just this reason, and we must now at least consider using it.”

John Nichols’ new book is The Genius of Impeachment: The Founders’ Cure for Royalism. Rolling Stone’s Tim Dickinson hails it as a “nervy, acerbic, passionately argued history-cum-polemic [that] combines a rich examination of the parliamentary roots and past use of the ‘heroic medicine’ that is impeachment with a call for Democratic leaders to ‘reclaim and reuse the most vital tool handed to us by the founders for the defense of our most basic liberties.’”

Hell, we can't even get Harriet Miers to appear! Think your congressional reps give a shit about IMPEACHMENT?

.

Why give up your power as a constituent and a voter because those in power choose to abuse that gift of Representation? Doing as much is tantamount to a tacit approval and acceptance of ANY member of Congress in violating their Oath and trust with the people; their constituents.

Now is NOT the time to abandon the plowshare because the mule refuses to tow it. Nay! How else are you to reap a harvest with such poor efforts at tending those fields? NOW is the time to remind that mule just who feeds it. This way, hard work of such may become plentiful so as to feed you in return.

But to propose abandonment of that plowshare, the mule, the fields, that harvest, is to propose that your neighbors and family go hungry with you. I, as one of those neighbors, can not and will not let such abandonment go so easily. Know what you do.

With such rhetoric of "never gonna happen" what else are you awaiting but the opportunity to say, "I told you so!"?

Now think about that in the context of that defeatist pragmatism you display. That is NOT an "I told you so" to wish upon anyone, so carelessly.

Instead, take that power of constituency and offer back to your Representative the opportunity to defend their decisions: Just how are they supporting and defending the Constitution of the U.S.A. when they allow and tolerate, even condoning the usurpation and violation of the Constitution of the U.S.A. and the Laws derived from it? Just how are they NOT showing signs of mental reservations and exhibited examples of evasion at being faithful to the Constitution and their Oath through their constant exoneration of such allowances and excuses?

If Members of Congress haven't gotten it by now, they should be made to answer why they're re-electable for failing their Oath of Office; Their contract WITH their constituency!

Use it or loose it...
But to give it up so freely?
... Makes me have to question if it was deserved, at all!

.

Well, I am not a quitter, nor have I ever been. Do you seriously believe that the majority of representatives give a damn about the Constitution? If they did or had, we would not be in the mess we currently are in. As far as my representatives go, I'm voting all incumbents OUT, irregardless of party, since there is no meaningful difference. Every two years we have the oppportunity to re-elect an entirely new House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate. Will the American people do that? Of course not, so we aren't going anywhere! And by the way, if we can't even "land" Harriet Miers - well, what does that say about the system?

With 35,000 registered lobbyists in Wx, some earning $2-3 million a year and throwing all kinds of money to our representatives so they can bombard the public with their bullshit every election cycle - who do you think are reps are responsive to? Us? Remember the election of 2006? That counted for a lot...

Dear Wideeyedfedup realist,

At the federal level you have only one incumbent to vote out (unless you have a Senator running in this election cycle). Who knows if your vote will be with the winner, if the election in your area will be fair, heck--if we even HAVE elections in '08. So vote. But at least TELL your Representative WHY you're planning to vote for his/her challenger.

Of course most members of Congress are bought by corporate interests. And yours may be among the many who are not there serving We, the People. Sooo--still call and write to your Rep. and tell 'em that unless s/he co-sponsors H.Res.799 and any additional IMPEACHMENT resolutions against Cheney AND Bush that you will *not* be voting for them next Nov. THAT is the leverage we have--to bluntly tell our representatives (and Senators when the time comes) that you're disappointed in them for not co-sponsoring H.Res.333 or writing their own impeachment resolution (against Cheney OR Bush OR Rumsfeld when he was still in office) and that if they continue to NOT actively speak and act in favor of impeaching Cheney and Bush that FOR THAT REASON you will withdraw your vote for them next Nov.

Most of us here do see and feel the unbelievable mess that has continued for 7 yrs. BUT our choice is to try to change it or to do nothing. Passive complicity.

******Sorry - I meant to post this under the war funding story*****

Got that "Democratic Majority Drive" panhandling letter in the mail a couple of days ago. Then yesterday the subservient, enabling democrats voted to give the Pretender-in-Chief another blank check for his illegal war. My response (which is going out in today's mail) appears below. Please feel free to copy for use as your response to the panhandlers if you like it.

12/15/07

You people have got to be kidding. American voters gave Democrats a crystal clear mandate and the majority to carry it out on Election Day in 2006:

END THE ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF IRAQ.

BRING ALL OUR TROOPS HOME.

HOLD THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR CRIMES.

You have not come close to accomplishing any of this, and it has become quite obvious since your party took control of Congress in January that you have not even made a serious effort to honor the will of the people. And you want more money from us? You should all be ashamed.

We are constantly told that holding the Bush administration accountable via the CONSTITUTIONALLY MANDATED process of impeachment (which starts with an INVESTIGATION), would be a waste of time, and that you have to focus on more important things “like ending the war.”

YET YOU HAVE NOT ONLY ACCOMPLISHED VIRTUALLY NOTHING OF SIGNIFICANCE IN 2007, BUT ALSO ONCE AGAIN VOTED OVERWHELMINGLY TO GIVE THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION ALL THE MONEY THEY WANT FOR THEIR ILLEGAL WAR, WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED!

HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK WE ARE?

Initiating the process of impeachment is not dependent on the general belief in Congress that there will be enough votes to impeach and remove from office. It is dependent on the EXISTENCE OF EVIDENCE OF IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES, which, as it relates to the Bush administration, cannot be legitimately refuted. There is a mountain of it.

Start with the 2006 report issued by Congressman John Conyers:
“The Constitution in Crisis; The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retribution, and Coverups in the Iraq War, and Illegal Domestic Surveillance.”

It can be easily found here.

At the VERY LEAST, an impeachment investigation must be commenced in order to put this evidence on the record.

America is sick and tired of having our intelligence insulted and our faces slapped by the Democratic Party. You deserve no money and you will get no money from me until such time as you PROVE BEYOND ANY DOUBT to America that you are serious about carrying out the will of the people and honoring the oath to support and defend our Constitution that every elected representative swears upon taking office.

I have protested the illegal occupation of Iraq 3X's each week on street corners and have for the past 2-1/2 years. I have designed 100's of posters and brochures, I have spoken in front of groups, in churches, I have personally spoken to my representative a number of times, I have faxed him, sent letters to him, I have met with my Senators' staffs on numerous occasions , written, faxed, requested to meet personally with my senators and have routinely been refused. My rep writes to me that he has not voted for increased funding of the war - I incredulously write back and point out to him that he has!

Am I discouraged? Hell no, but let me make one thing perfectly clear - America has turned into a large concentration camp, we effectively have no rights [Military Commission Act] and no representation. Get ready for some dark and depressing days. Will the human spirit triumph? Yes of course it will as long as THEY keep their fingers off the NUKES. Change to America will come from without in some form or another, it will NOT come from the people anytime soon. Hope dies last and mine is not even close to expiring.

By the way my representative is a Democrat, I will vote for his opponent. My senator is a Republican, I will vote for his opponent. I’m leaving shortly for a street corner for my last protest this week. Once again I will write my senators and rep and ask them how they can fund a war crime?

The times, they are a’changing - get used to it…………

...Sounds like you've been busy, doing your share--doing more than I do, for sure. And, I didn't read anything in what you posted here that sounded like you were giving up--probably because I feel a lot like you sound. I'm starting to think that Change to America will have to come from without, too. Nothing, no matter how outrageous it is, seems to catch much traction here. Just this morning, the Editor of our Des Moines Register put more sheep food out on the Editorial Page: "We like talk on issues: No fistfights required". She was writing about the pathetic Iowa presidential debates.

But, like you said, hope dies hard. I'm pining mine on one of two things: Impeachment of the current crop before they leave office, or a Kucinich win in '08. Without one, or both, I can't see much chance for anything new.

I don't know how to get ready for dark and depressing days, but I'm afraid they're comming.

...at least it didn't sound that way to me. Here's what she had to say about that:

"And then there were the thousands of e-mails and calls raging at us for including Ambassador Alan Keys and not inviting Congressman Dennis Kucinich. We had conflicted conversations about that. But we wanted measureable criteria to take any charge of bias out of it."

"We developed criteria in late summer. They were, we thought, miminal--candidates must have officially filed to run for president, measured at least 1 percent in our October Iowa Poll, and have an office and paid staff in the state by Oct. 1 to show evidence of a presence here. To our surprise, Keys qualified and Kucinich did not. But it did not feel credible to adjust criteria after the fact to leave some people out and get others in."

That's word-for-word what she had to say about why Dennis was not allowed to debate. The rest of the column was stuff like this:

"I feel good about the focus. The rest of the country watching in may have felt differently, not having heard from the candidates yet as much as we have."

I have been posting adds on craigslist.org directing people to http://wexlerwantshearings.com.

It's free and it gets the message out there.

Lets make maximum use of the internet while we still can.

this is fantastic news for the nation

impeachment has received a spotlight

let the ambition of the nation make their wishes felt for removal of the architects of devastation

impeach, indict, presecute, convict

cheney and the bush admin have bankrupted america on their lies. i love america more than anyone. but cannot stand this!!!

We hit 50,000 by 11:55 pm, Saturday, December 15. Not bad. Remember, Wexler wants this so he can show his colleagues the strength of the movement - keep 'em coming. 50,000 ain't nothing compared to the masses that want this so please keep forwarding widely to your lists.

People are a bit burnt out. Is there anyway to have above happen? Thanks, Rain

There has never been any doubt by the enlightened American people that the momentum for impeachment would build overwhelmingly and self-propel itself forward if given half a chance. Now that Wexler and the rest have given it that chance, it is out of the gate and running.

However, it appears that Pelosi has so much power over the House, and Conyers, that a continuing thumbs down from her on impeachment would be a showstopper regardless of how great the movement toward impeachment.

There is something wrong there--Pelosi is STRONG-ARMING the rest of the House by virtue of reverence to political heirarchy, which is the achilles heel of so many of her policitical colleagues, apparently including Conyers. Talk about a dictatorship.

Pelosi appears to be the consumate politician. Her vision seems to extend toward, and end, at the well being of "the party, the party"--rather than the bigger picture of "the Country". This may come from being raised in a political family where her father was a Maryland congressman and Baltimore mayor, and her brother also was a Baltimore mayor. She appears to be conditioned, like a cautious banker, to preserve a safe situation and not rock the boat in any way that would jeaopardize the party, such as engaging in impeachment.

She may also have a coy notion that, being second in line to the presidency, she doesn't want to appear "too eager" to be vaulted into the vice-presidency (or presidency) by even condoning impeachment. She should be persuaded to get over that vanity-rooted notion.

Pelosi apparently is not "reading" the situation. LITTLE DOES SHE REALIZE: That the great majority of (now fully enlightened) democrats and independents (and some republicans) WOULD GIVE HER PARTY A GREATER APPLAUSE AND APPRECIATIVE VOTE FOR AT LEAST TRYING IMPEACHMENT, EVEN IF FAILING, THAN NOT TRYING IT AT ALL.
BECAUSE THIS TIME--(unlike Clinton)THE WHOLE COUNTRY KNOWS FULL WELL IT IS WARRANTED for Constitutional reasons, not frivolous ones.

CONVERSELY: There is no doubt that IF SHE IS THE SHOWSTOPPER THAT PREVENTS IMPEACHMENT, the great following that put the democrats in power in 2006 WILL TURN AGAINST THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY and throw them to the dogs--guaranteed--just for spite out of a feeling of BETRAYAL and being made fools of for voting for them earlier!

EXCELLENT!!!!! Hearings on Impeahcment is a great way to start. I'm thrilled.

All I want for Xmas is the Prez impeached, the Prez impeached, the Prez impeached.

All I want for XMas issssss the Prezzzzzz immmmmpeeeeeeeached.

Merry XMas, from a Patriotic Xian

Geesh, what's it gonna take, bribes?

Nancy Pelosi better get out of the way and let the Congress do their job. How can they get rid of her as Speaker? There must be a way. Conyers needs to step up to the plate and tell Nancy to bug off. This train has left the station and it is not going back! Let's have a real investigation. O'Rielly will howl and Limbaugh will cry but the lies can be uncovered and the truth be revealed for all the world to see.

Dennis Kucinich has stood up for America. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we took his gift and made peace with the rest of the world.

Have you sent it to friends and family? Speak out, America!

Godspeed, representative Wexler!

what the hell happened?

did anyone else see the numbers mysteriously change on wexler's counter? about 20 minutes ago it was well over 100,000. just refreshed it and it dropped to 89,000 - a good number yes - but something ain't right!

I've been keeping an hourly count since 11:55am PST Mon the 17th.

11:55am PST 79,600
12:55am PST 80,560
1:55pm PST 81,431
2:55pm PST 89,349

I didn't see the 100,000 count, but did find the 8,000 jump in an hour odd - that's 2.1 sign-ups per second. How fast can the website register sign-ups?

It doesn't seem to take very long to sign up if you don't sign up for other stuff too. There are millions of people in this country and many of them realize that things are not right, more should.

The Washington Post seems to think that things are going swimmingly in Iraq so now the "military" is asking for more troops for Afghanistan. Give me a break! How stupid do they think we are? Bush is hiding behind the troops again. When they come back wounded or with PTSD he'll throw them in a ditch.

i'm going to call his office tomorrow and ask about this. because i checked again a half hour ago (7:30 pm Eastern, Monday) and it was over 90,000 which makes sense considering you had listed 89,349 as your last check. just checked again and it dropped to 83,972.

possible that some of the sign-ups are not legitimate with fake email addresses or something? or their counter is messed up or someone is hacking in. this time i paid closer attention than my first post about it dropping from over 100,000 and something is definitely up.

something is fishy here

85551signed up
and counting...

neocon hackers?

It looks like someone is playing with the site, probably trying to discredit it. It just went from over 90,000 to 83,000 and some. They are afraid of the truth. Nancy P. is afraid as the rest of them. She and Hillary are probably in there pulling the strings. Why would we want to "hire" politicians who are so afraid that they have to lie and keep secrets from us? It's pretty sad, isn't it. This is just how safe our election are too. Kinda makes you feel sick.

Double-checking here: You're saying that the number just decreased from 90K to 83K? Please verify. Thanks.

i just witnessed the exact same thing as code pink reported. i won't judge (yet) why this is occurring, but it definitely happened. and earlier today i watched it drop from over 100,000 down to around 80,000. i am going to try to contact them and see what's going on.

I have been checking since I got home and the numbers were above 90,000. Now they are down to 83,000 and some.
