Ghastly as it is, this is only one part of the total human and financial cost of Bush's "splendid little war". Here are some additional numbers and facts on the Iraq quagmire compiled by the Institute for Policy Studies:

KEY FINDINGS

“The Iraq Quagmire

Arvy, Arvy, Arvy....

Surely by now you must know that the number of Iraqis that are murdered or maimed is not important.

As long as I live, I will never be able to put from my mind the picture of that little Iraqi boy with both arms blown off and terrible burns over most of his body.

Even now, my eyes get blurry when I think of that child and the thousands more who have shared his fate thanks to cluster bombs and U.S. refusal to accept the treaty banning them -- or perhaps even worse in the tender care of Abu Ghraib's sodomites and rapists. In a way, weak-kneed as it may sound, I'm almost glad that they won't let us see all of those pictures.

I know I'm not alone. America may tend to place a higher value on its own sons and daughters. That's only natural. But the American people are as capable as any of caring and compassion for others if given half a chance to know the truth. At least I have to hope and believe that is true or I wouldn't be able to sustain any hope at all.

The boy's name is Ali Abbas. And like you I will never forget what they did to him.

They blew his (little) arms off, they burned his (little) body, they killed his ENTIRE family.

This is one story in a hundred thousand.

I am sorry Arvy (cause I know you have a good heart) but America as a whole does not give a fuck. Fact.

Even on this site, which is highly sympatheic, no one really cares.

We have white crosses being erected for every dead american soldier and none for a single dead Iraqi child killed.

You say it is natural. You know it is not.

I wish I could find some words, but I can't. Many of us around the world tried to stop it before it began, but we failed. I'm sorry.

IM SURE YOU'LL AGREE

I think we all are administrativly employing every effort short of resorting to extreem civil disobedience. In an above article that was posted today, i raised the question relivant to a citizenry deligation approaching the U N and seeking outside assistance if this situation escalates further, like a preemptive nuclear strike on Iran. The question being, do such citizens possess the authority recignized by the U N?**HUMPHREY**

It's a good idea to quantify and QUALIFY the Iraq quagmire. Beyond the indifference of numbers, the terror, the misery, the maiming and deaths of Iraqis AGAIN (after Saddam) must be brought home.

George Bush is rapidly catching Saddam's death toll (and misery), and... in just a short period of time. Give the Bushies a chance and they will make Saddam look like an amateur thug.

Re: US Military casualties: US forces, who don't die within 24 hours of being wounded are not counted as casualties of war. In other words, the app. 1800 deaths commonly reported in the MSM do not encompass those who die after 24 hours of being wounded.

I can just see these characterictics on a stopwatch!
