My IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH moment
Yesterday, being the 3rd Friday of the month, was Iraq moratorium. Of course, World Can't Wait has their wear ORANGE every Friday. I hope that all reading did something yesterday!
We went to stand in a very busy intersection during afternoon "drive time." Not just any intersection, this one is in a very heavily populated military area. To be fair, it is also a beachy, trendy, ecclectic area as well.
We got great response. Many truckers gave us the air horn which is alwasy exciting. I was very close to the edge of the road and purposely looked into the eyes of the drivers. The negative responses always get a laugh fROm us. "Get a job" to an elderly vet, idiot, to a College prof, "commie" to all of us. Fairly new to the repetoire is "Where's your burka?"
Many clearly military, in fatigues, honked, pumped fist, waved and cheered. One insisted that Saddam attacked the Trade Center. Toward the end of the vigil, a nice looking pair of soldiers were at the stop sign and began conversing with me. My sign was a two sided one that read
BUSH BETRAYED THE TROOPS
BRING THEM HOME
When the light changed, one of them said you're wrong you know. He didn't betray us, it was fun. Huge smile on his face made a shooting motion and said agin, "It was REALLY fun."
Go this weekend and see IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH.
