And US Media: Keith Olbermann on Bush's Problem

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said it all, starting his news briefing Saturday afternoon: "Louisiana is a city that is largely underwater..."

Well there's your problem right there.

If ever a slip-of-the-tongue defined a government's response to a crisis, this was it.

The seeming definition of our time and our leaders had been their insistence on slashing federal budgets for projects that might’ve saved New Orleans. The seeming characterization of our government that it was on vacation when the city was lost, and could barely tear itself away from commemorating V.J. Day and watching Monty Python's Flying Circus, to at least pretend to get back to work. The seeming identification of these hapless bureaucrats: their pathetic use of the future tense in terms of relief they could’ve brought last Monday and Tuesday — like the President, whose statements have looked like they’re being transmitted to us by some kind of four-day tape-delay.

But no. The incompetence and the ludicrous prioritization will forever be symbolized by one gaffe by of the head of what is ironically called “The Department of Homeland Security

For the MSM, this is probably the best commentary I have heard yet. I give Olbermann a lot of credit for this. Nice work Keith!!!!!!

I have to give Condi the most credit here. Monty Python is funny and even has some messages here and there, and Condi was doing the least objectionable thing of any of our fearless leaders. I can't believe they made her carry boxes around and give out some packages to the victims, though. It must have been painful for her, being the token non-white person in power that the neocons offered up as a symbol.

That said, I hope all of the neos get what they deserve. A prison cell for life - for criminal negligence, for war crimes, for crimes against humanity, and for treasonous lying to Congress and citizens. They've been asking for it since day one. May the masses finally get pissed enough to wake the hell up! America could be a great help to the human race. Instead, the neocons have turned us into the greatest burden on the human race - nearsighted, ignorant and totally lacking in empathy. I am not ashamed of most of the Americans that I know, but I sure am ashamed of America at large.

I would like to see us take every bit of help that all the other countries have offered in our hour of need, even help from the "undesirables" (e.g., France, Venezuala, Cuba), and act grown up enough to feel grateful for the help. It would be the best thing to help deflect the hubris of our leaders that has happened in a long time. It would help us join back into the family of nations and peoples. There is no excuse for the way the US has been pushing its weight around the way it has lately, regardless of what Richard Cheney, John Bolton and the rest of the neocon corporate meglamaniacs might think. That road leads nowhere.

Keith Olberman is the single most courageous member of the MSM. It surprises me that GE has allowed him to speak his mind. I hope Keith continues to speak up and "out" the Bush administration for all of its evil doings around the world and here in America.

Keith, we need you to be the point person in the lead up to the "changing of the guard" in America. Maybe some others in the MSM will be inspired by your courage and committment to the truth.

Don't worry. According to Condi Rice, God will sort it all out in due course. "The Lord is going to come on time - if we just wait," she said.
