Planning, Response Are Faulted

Tens of thousands of people remain stranded on the streets of New Orleans in desperate conditions because officials failed to plan for a serious levee breach and the federal response to Hurricane Katrina was slow, according to disaster experts and Louisiana government officials.

Though experts had long predicted that the city -- which sits below sea level and is surrounded by water -- would face unprecedented devastation after an immense hurricane, they said problems were worsened by a late evacuation order and insufficient emergency shelter for as many as 100,000 people.

Rep. Charles W. Boustany Jr., (R-La.), said he spent the past 48 hours urging the Bush administration to send help. "I started making calls and trying to impress upon the White House and others that something needed to be done," he said. "The State resources were being overwhelmed, and we needed direct federal assistance, command and control, and security -- all three of which are lacking."

"How many people are going to die, per hour, before you get 40,000 troops in there?" Madden asked yesterday. "I think it has cost lives. . . . They can go into Iraq and do this and do that, but they can't drop some food on Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, right now? It's just mind-boggling."

Contrast the Bush Admin's almost fanatical allocation of U.S. funds and resources for the Afghan and Iraq attacks, with their cutting of funds, diverting of resources, and lack of serious planning for a catastrophic hurricane in the New Orleans area, and it's clear that America's real needs are not a priority for this administration. Such negligence toward domestic priorities, seems to be the norm for this administration. Their insistence upon "staying the course" in a middle eastern quagmire that has more benefit for Israel than the U.S., shows they care much more about protecting Israel than the U.S. The Homeland Security Head is a "dual" Israeli/American citizen! The Bush admin is full of these "dual citizen" types whose loyalties to this country must be questioned with their seeming total disreguard for America's needs! By their actions, America's domestic needs are clearly not a top priority for this administration.

Here's an idea... stop shooting at the emergency workers, and stop looting!!!!!

Looting and shooting are the expected results of poor or no planning for disasters such as this. When people are forsakened by their goverment in this way tempers will flare, desperate conditions breed desperate actions! Leaving New Orleans in the lurch by stealing vital flood project funding for his personal Iraq misadventure, Bush is guilty of criminal negligence at the very least. This disaster has been loudly predicted for years yet he saw fit to ignore a veritable life and death issue for the people of this region. The citizens of New Orleans are now bearing the brunt of this momumental act of Presidential malfeasance.

It will take more than bogus news reports and shrill disinformation to save W. Bush from the wrath of the American people this time. He has been coodled and sheilded by the media, catered to, by congressional stooges far too long. When the entire dimensions of this long predicted disaster are finally known, Bush will have no where to hide!
