It Was the Oil, Stupid

By Cindy Sheehan
Day 25
The Peaceful Occupation of Crawford

"If Zarqawi and bin Laden gain control of Iraq, they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks," Bush said. "They'd seize oil fields to fund their ambitions. They could recruit more terrorists by claiming a historic victory over the United States and our coalition."(George Bush, August 30, 2005 in San Diego.)

So it is official, Casey had his blood shed in Iraq for OIL. He died so we could pay over 3.00/gallon for gas. Like I suspected all along, my dear, sweet son: almost 1900 others; and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis died so the oil fields wouldn't "fall into the hands of terrorists" and so George and his immoral band of greedy robber barons could become wealthier. Like I have said all along: how can these people sleep at night and how can they choke down their food knowing it is purchased off of the flesh and blood of others? We have found our "Noble Cause." And it is OIL. This man and his handlers need to be stopped.

Well, George and I are leaving Crawford today. George is finished playing golf and telling his fables in San Diego , so he will be heading to Louisiana to see the devastation that his environmental policies and his killing policies have caused. Recovery would be easier and much quicker if almost ½ of the three states involved National Guard were not in Iraq. All of the National Guard's equipment is in Iraq also. Plus, with the 2 billion dollars a week that the private contractors are siphoning from our treasury, how are we going to pay for helping our own citizens in Louisiana , Mississippi, and Alabama? And, should I dare say "global warming?" and be branded as a "conspiracy theorist" on top of everything else the reich-wingers say about me.

We are now packing up Camp Casey and leaving Crawford and heading to George's place of employment. He wouldn't talk to us, his employers, while we were here to give him his "job evaluation," so we must go to him to have our little chat.

I just want to thank a few people and groups for their support, help, and love while we have been here in Crawford. So many people made the Camp Casey experience possible and so successful. If I miss someone, I am so sorry: that is the difficult thing about thanking people. I love you all, even if I don't remember to thank you!!

My sister: Dede Miller: My kids' second mom who is always by my side and supports me 100% in whatever I do. My cause is her cause, and I couldn't do what I do without her.

Carly, Andy, and Janey: Who would love to see more of their mom, but who understand that we are trying to save their future by what we do. I love you guys, and I will see you very, very soon (yea!!) I couldn't do what I do without their love and support.

The Crawford Peace House: I got an email from Hadi Jawad the day that I decided to come and camp in Crawford and he pledged the help and support of the Peace House. At that time, they only had a few bucks in their checking account and the phone was turned off. Now, thanks to America, they have been able to keep Camp Casey going and they will be able to continue their good works indefinitely. Thanks to John Wolf who had the vision for peace in Crawford and I think that Camp Casey was a fulfillment of his vision. They are going to make a garden and call it "The Casey Sheehan Memorial Peace Garden." What a tribute to my son.

Code Pink: Jodie Evans and Tiffany and Alicia were the first ones here on Monday 08/08 to jump in and save me from going crazy and hopping on one of the trains that runs past the Peace House and pulling an "Agatha Christie." Code Pink also worked tirelessly (and I mean tirelessly) outside of Camp Casey.

MoveOn: For organizing the highly successful candlelight vigils.

Lisa Fithian: For all the organizing work she did behind the scenes.

GSFP, IVAW, MFSO, AND VFP: Our organizations with "skin in the game" for all of their support, presence, love, and help.

Bill Mitchell: Bill's son Mike, was KIA in the same battle as Casey and he was the first GSFP member to come to Camp Casey and take some of the heat off of me. He found a new love at Camp Casey (one of our miracles) and I am sooo happy about that. Plus, Bill is one of my most ardent supporters and he just gets in the middle of things, digs in, and helps wherever. I love him and he and his family will be parts of our family forever.

Fred Mattlage: For donating the amazing piece of land for our use that allowed Camp Casey to expand to include thousands.

Air America: The Morning Sedition, Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, and Laura Flanders. Thank you for your support . Ed Schultz belongs there, too, although he is not affiliated with Air America Radio. Amy Goodman was here, too!

The bloggers on The Daily Kos (and most bloggers in general): I would read their comments everyday after I posted my diary and I was always heartened and encouraged by their remarks. After all of the negativity, their positivity gave me strength to go on. In addition, the first night we were in Crawford, and being harassed by the SS, they were posting things and getting the word out that we were there alone and defenseless, which may have saved our lives, or saved us from being injured, or harassed out of there.

So many other people: The Camp Casey volunteers…literally hundreds. The more than 10,000 people who came through CC. Ann Wright who kept CC going. Arianna Huffington for her advice and support. Joan Baez who kept CC's spirits alive while I was in California attending to my sick mother. George Bush for not meeting with me on August 6th. Martin Sheen for his support and presence. A.I.M for Dennis Banks and Russell Means. Gary Hart, John Conyers, Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, Sheila Jackson Lee, Jan Schakowsky, Dennis Kucinich, Frank Pallone, Lynn Woolsey, Chuck Hagel, Ralph Nader, Jim McDermott, Walter Jones, Charlie Rangel and the other politicos who either came to CC, or called me to offer their support and love. I know I am forgetting some, but thanks to you all. Joe Wilson and his family for paving the way for me to be able to ignore and dismiss the reich-wing smear machine who always tried to marginalize and discredit me by exaggerating or twisting my words and lying about me. The clergy who were there with their love and support: Rabbi Arthur Waskow, Rabbi Dennis Shulman; Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Bob Edgars, Rev. Jesse Jackson (who prayed bed time prayers with me), Rita Brock, etc.

There were so many good people who donated money, goods, or services who want to be kept anonymous.

But especially to Americans who resonated with Camp Casey and gave us prayers, support, money, love and most of all hope for the future.

We will take our country back. And it will be a country that we want back.

God Bless America!!!!

Thank you, Cindy, for your commitment and passion in Casey's name. I hope someday you will know how important you were in getting this unjust war ended. Keep up the pressure on GWB, but don't destroy yourself doing it. Take care.

Her health and well-being is number one.

Has the war ended? I guess I didn't see that.

Hand-Shake Is Coming Your Way, Today
Peace & Love & Have A Fine Trip

You have made the world a safer place. Many of us are behind your efforts and do whatever we can in support. The majority of the world is on your side...the boots are on the ground...keep on leading you are doing an incredible not take on too much or it will wear you out...I am sure your advisers will take care of you...We know the noble cause Casey died for: all our children anywhere in the world who have been misled by the misuse of war to solve the worlds have an army from heaven and earth beside you...Remember to take care of Cindy too...we all want that.

You are an ass. As your tripe ends up replayed over and over again on Al Jazeera, you and your handlers are helping the terrorists find the strength to further kill and maim our soldiers.

Your son is a hero. You are a traitor.
American Citizen

Mr./Ms. X,

If you want to see an ass, I suggest you go look in the nearest mirror!

You need to grow up. I need to ask, how did you get to Crawford, how are you getting to Washington. I have to assume, since you do not want blood on your hands from oil, that you are either walking, riding a horse, or using an electric car.

If we needed the Oil, and as I understand the economics, we do NOT get most of our oil from that region. But our economy needs the oil as it stands currently. My guess is we can get plenty from Alaska, from off the California Coast and off Florida and the Gulf.

Are you going to protest the Syrian, Saudai, Iran, and other Terrorist Thugs who are coming over to Iraq and killing innocents. Are you going to protest the killing of innocent Isrealies by Hummas and other Terroist Thugs.

Why do you want us to loose.

Cindy needs to grow up? How about you? I do not recall Cindy saying that you have blood on your hands if you use oil. She has said you have blood on your hands if you use lies and deceit to invade another country and most Americans would agree with that. Have any of you read the Downing Street Memos??? (Simply click on the left side of this site and read!) The threat was created, the facts were fixed...and that means blood on your hands. The evidence is all around you, all you have to do is open your eyes and ears. A little more than half the American people bought the story, hook, line and sinker and truly believed the threat was real. Now these same Americans do not want to admit that they were duped! So they put their blinders on and say WMD are buried in the sand! The only thing buried in the sand is their heads. Cindy does not want us to lose...but in case you have not noticed, we are loosing. If you do not want us to lose maybe you should start asking the tough questions about our Commander in Chief, his policies, and his continual blunders. We are where we are today as a direct result of Bush's lies and incompetence and the people and politicians who continue to make excuses for him are the ones who need to grow up! I have always taught my children to be honest and accountable for their actions even when they have done wrong. I expect no less from my President and neither should you.

How dare you defame this woman? You certainly need to educate yourself. Have you not read the Downing Street Minutes? Have you not deduced the evidence against that flab master Rove? How about the non existent WMD and the mushroom clouds? Your BushCo cut spending which consequently and unfortunately hurt the Gulf States to pay for his contrived war. Get a clue, meathead.
YOU need to get YOUR HEAD out of your ass, your crap is fogging your brain.
I noticed you blogged anonymously, you coward. Typical idiot

What an idiot.............where do you get you information?

Speaking of "Head out your a$$"...............What jibberish

NOW, after reading the facts, YOU get your head out of your ass. Do that and then see what really happened, your war was based on a pack of lies.

Please shut up. You type like a 5-year old (I apologize to any 5-year olds I may have offended with that comment) Of course... that's to be expected when your hero and paragon of virtue, SINdy SheeMAN writes and talks like a 10-year old. Or, since the only way it seems you can communicate it through profanity and CAPS lock...

Oh, and here's your pre-requisite link you cite

What else... oh yeah, then you say something about the PNAC and Oil and evil Bushitler.

We've heard all this "traitor tripe" before. It comes from people who have no loyalty to the US Constitution and the American people.

If anyone is a traitor, it's the mindless right wingnuts whose knee-jerk, empty patriotism (worn on their sleeves as if they were fans at a professional sports event) has caused the US to fall into a quagmire in Iraq costing thousands of lives (Iraqi and American), $250 Billion and counting both numbers.

These low-brow luddites, yes you, half pint, don't have the brain matter to even understand what it means to be an American. No wonder the framers felt the need to protect society from them.

I love the comment about "empty patriotism worn on their sleaves as if they were fans at a professional sports event"
This is pure poetry.

Put your heroics where your mouth is. See your nearest ARMY RECRUITER.

Saddam threatened the US by moving forward to:

1. Clean up the weapons stashes, traces of WMD research traces, whatever was on the list.

2. Getting a clean bill of health from the UN, free to sell as much oil as he wanted.

3. Next, open up a clearing house for Euro currency based oil transactions.

4. This threatened the traditional (enforced!) transactions in Dollars (Petro dollars).

5. The $Gazillion oil futures business (buyers put down a large downpayment in US/Petro dollars in the Bank of England) is threatend if Saddam sold oil for Euros. The drain on the dollar would have sunk a lot of wealthy oil guys and maybe tank the US economy.

6. Saddam had left OPEC, did not have to submit to Saudi primacy (the enforcers of strict "rules".. you guessed it oil for petrodollars).

7. In Sep 2003, Iraq was quietly pulled back into OPEC.

8. The Bushies breathed a sigh of relief. That was the goal of the war and they (the neo-con artists) had achieved it. The rest is just a little death and misery.

The neo-con artists are criminals and need to spend some time in jail contemplating their misdeeds.

I am so sorry for your loss, Cyndy!

This is as close to the truth as he has gotten. Things must be getting to him. He has finaly admitted it is all about the OIL. He just doesn't want his playground rivals to get it so he took it first!

I wish you had the capacity for it, ma'am. Your post is absurd and filled with falsehoods, self-righteousness, and shameless self-promotion. I am sorry for your loss. It is time, now, to do the dignified thing and go home and be quiet, leaving your handlers behind and striving for a little balance and perspective.

Amen.. I used to give her the benefit of the doubt, but when her lawyers, handlers, and liberal financial backers took over, I lost all sympathy for her.

I've heard her repeatedly hang up on interviewers when she didn't like where the line of questioning was going... "hello... hello??? We must have a bad connection". But she never has trouble with her phone talking to Randi... LOL

Cindy is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less.

JM, you need to look in the mirror. Cindy is sure making a lot of hate mongers come out of the woodwork, it sure looks like she is being effective. "I think thy nutty hate-mongers protest too much" You obviously wouldnt know the truth if it smacked you upside the head. That figures you believe every lie the facist Bush spews out. You go Cindy, you are getting the hateful stirred up it must mean you are doing something right. Yeah you always want those women to be quiet dont you---well Keep it up Cindy the hate-filled mongers are soooo mad the hate-filled sad people are spilling out of these blogs profusely. You go girl---Cindy----these people are just miserably, pathetic, hate-filled creatures.

"devastation that his (Bush) environmental policies and his killing policies have caused"

now the Pres is responsible for the hurricane? WOW ... you've really lost all credibility now ... your 15 minutes are up ... I hope the great legacy of your son and his sacrifice and the sacrifice of others who have given their lives for this country outlasts the damage you have done to smear it.

Didn't this 'George' guy already talk to you? Do you actually have anything new to say to him? Or was this all just a propaganda exersize? And who appointed you and your friends the presidents supervisors ('we were here to give him his "job evaluation"')?

You and your associates don't represent all of America, madam, and pretending you do portrays you as an arrogant narcissist. If this is the face of "peace" in America, I think you do "peace" a disservice.

" see the devastation that his environmental policies and his killing policies have caused."

How exactly? Oh yeah, if only Bush would have signed Kyoto then Katrina wouldn't have happened. Tell me you are not politicizing a natural disaster. Killing policies? Katrina? Huh?

"Recovery would be easier and much quicker if almost ½ of the three states involved National Guard were not in Iraq. All of the National Guard's equipment is in Iraq also."

Can you tell us what percentage of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama Guardsmen and equipment is in Iraq? Hint - CNN had a report on this. It's VERY VERY small. Facts please - always useful.

Mam, I am sorry for your loss. My brother is a SEEBEE and my cousing is in the ARMY. They could be deployed to Iraq anytime. I can't imagine the agony that you must be going through with your son gone. But, please, please, get some psychological help. Your rants meet the textbook definition of delusion.

Well - it appears the ditto heads are making an appearance on the blogs here today. Maybe the facts are slowly sinking in but their denial is making them MORE defensive.

Trashing the fine character and name of Mrs. Sheehan WILL NOT change the facts and reality of this ill conceived war in Iraq. It WILL NOT change the lies we have been told. It WILL NOT bring the 1900 soldiers back to life including the one soldier who recently wrote about the insanity of our war in Iraq only to die days later.

Wake up neocons and dittoheads - failure to recognize reality and deadly mistakes make you the true traitors in America. This whole Snafu will taint the fine name and tradition of this wonderful country for decades.

WAKE the #*&%#@@## UP!!!!!!!!!!

Your message is getting out! The survey says America is not with you yet! KEEP IT UP! We in the Red States appreicate it! LOL You are all just pathetic! KEEP IT UP! ROTFLMAO!

Global Warming is a reality, and its brought on by peak OIL, and it destroys and devestates cities including your own. And its the result of stubborn oil gas emissions, and you, fool, are paying the price for it!!!!

And for an entire LIE of a war

Doug E.

Has anyone wondered where the conscience and moral center of this country is? Not the individual people but our leaders both political and private. Today one doesn't have to look far even in the face of the tragedy in New Orleans. It really points out this administrations priorities that the very first thing they would do is to "loan" oil out of the strategic reserve to the oil companies. You would think the motherf***ers would forgive some of their excessive profits, and offer to "lower" the price of gas and eat the difference as a gesture of good will, but NOOOO they have their f***ing greedy ass oily hands out. How low can you stoop to take advantage of people's misery and suffering. I'm sure the next thing will be a cheap gov. loan to help them fix their oil rigs in the ocean. I wonder how many money grubbing Ken Lay types lost their houses. The Bushites will give them what they want and collect more profits and the rest of us will take it the ass as usual. Bend over and pass me the grease. Also how do you think this will affect drilling in ANWR? It looks like yet another castastrophic event will play right into Bushes hands. No more Cindy, Karl Rove or body bags from Iraq on the front page of the press. Just our kind Fuhrer showing his wonderful compassion for the people in the path of Katrina. F**k the people in Iraq who gives a rats ass about them. They are not red bloodied Americans their just terrorists so they don't deserve any compassion. I am really pissed, I am not just sure what to do about it. How's this!! I think I will propose a conspiracy theory that the Repugs have figured a way to control the weather and created a hurricane to cause a disaster to draw attention away from their failed policies but it got out of hand and destroyed more then it should. Can you see them greedy little bastards. "Hey Jeb lets rip those freaks in New Orleans a new asshole and wipe out those sinners in the Name of God"!! Have we heard from Pat Robertson yet?

A FREAKING Hurricane machine? You can't be that dumb... of course, you ARE a liberal. Where was this "machine" in 1992. You remember what happened in 1992, don't you? Hurricane Andrew... costliest disaster in history? Who was President then? Ohhhhhhh, your boy KKKlinton. Oops. I propose we start a conspiracy theory that all Bush-hating liberals really aren't as dumb as they seemed, but the EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEvil Bushitlerovenron Kabal just lobotomized them. Have we heard from Michael Moore yet?

Asshat Moonbat.

You should be there right now after all supporting the noble cause: OIL!!!!!

And what do you have to say for yourself jayavia? Are you that completely inept to not realize LIES? BLATANT LIES, THAT HAVE BRAINWASHED YOUR VERY MIND?

And by the way Jayiaz, Mohammed Atta and the other terrorists were allowed to kill thousands of people 9/11.....May 2001 Able Danger was shut down.

Doug E.

Ohhhh, my college? I'm in college. However, you give me a vibe that... well, you've never seen a college. But I digress. Able Danger? You want to bring up Able Danger? You ask on whose watch Able Danger was... that's funny, because Able Danger was brought before President Clinton in 1999. It was on Clinton's watch... Why didn't he stop it? Know why Bush and the FBI or CIA didn't do anything? There was this little thing called the "Gorelick Wall", set up by Jamie Gorelick, close friend of the Klintons and (gasp) chairperson on the 9/11 Comission... go ahead, google Gorelick Wall... maybe the info can funnel in through your tinfoil hat.

SHUT IT DOWN THEN? In may 2001 they shut Able Danger down!!!! OOPS!

Come on Jayz you can do better than this!!!! CLINTON WAS THE PROBLEM BUT BUSH WAS THE CULPRIT? OOPS!

Humor: Look it up in the dictionary. Look up irony, too. You could sure use a little good humor.

Sense of reality. It's something you batty libs could use.

Despite himself, Wee Georgie may actually have found the key to survival simply by telling the truth -- or, at least, a somewhat distorted version thereof.

I have a strong suspicion that many (most?) Americans are quite prepared to support invasions and occupations of other countries -- along with thousands of deaths, destruction, indefinite detentions, torture and all the rest -- so long as they can be convinced that it's necessary to sustain the "American way of life" (TM) in the manner to which they've become accustomed.

I hope I'm wrong, but the Bush/PNAC team may actually be onto something here. I've wondered for some time now why they didn't just say this in the first place.

This is unfortunate, but (I think) true. Even with our lax MSM, the people actually know what Bush is, and what he’s done and he got a slight majority in the big poll nine months ago. We can only hope that as the whole thing sinks in, the public will have a change of heart. It seems to be happening now. I think the latest flap over the prisoner abuse photos is really important. Events may well turn, if these are released.

"Recovery would be easier and much quicker if almost ½ of the three states involved National Guard were not in Iraq. All of the National Guard's equipment is in Iraq also."

Here's a little reality check on that claim:

Military Moving In To Lend A Hand

NorthCom will organize task force

By News Services

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon’s U.S. Northern Command plans to set up a task force to help federal disaster authorities bring relief by military aircraft and amphibious vehicles to communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The task force plans to have its headquarters at Camp Shelby, Miss., said Michael Kucharek, a spokesman for Colorado Springs-based Northern Command. It has established Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., as a staging area for supplies and personnel.

The task force will assist federal disaster-relief authorities primarily with aircraft and other logistical support. The Federal Emergency Management Agency requested it, Kucharek said.

The command already has sent two helicopters and crews that will enable federal disaster experts to assess the extent of the damage in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

More than 9,000 National Guard members have been called to duty for hurricane relief work in those three states, Kucharek said.

Late Tuesday, the Pentagon ordered five Navy ships and eight maritime rescue teams to the Gulf Coast to bolster relief operations.

One Navy amphibious assault ship, the Bataan, with six Sea Stallion and Sea Hawk helicopters that could be used for search and rescue missions, was en route from Texas. Four other vessels from Norfolk, Va., were expected to sail within 24 hours and take four days to reach the gulf, Northern Command Kucharek said.

The ships will carry food, fuel, medical and construction supplies, as well as hovercraft that can be used for evacuation and search-andrescue missions.

Also Tuesday, the Coast Guard called back to duty 500 reservists as part of the hurricane response. “The biggest challenge is getting enough resources — especially helicopters and small boats — to the area for the rescue work we have to do,

Because Loisianna's National Gaurd troops are absent without cause, Federal Troops, controlled by Federal officials in far away places must be deployed.

Instead of strangers in a strange land, it would be be far better if local troops could help their neigbors and be supervised local elected officials!

I support what you're doing and have a great deal of respect for the sacrifice you made as a mother and the sacrifices you've made in recent weeks, both in terms of the abuse you've taken and the physical discomfort you've endured. I have to be honest, though, it makes me very uneasy when I see you refer to "being harassed by the SS..." or "reich-wing". The SS were truly horrendous, and throwing around terms like that for every authority figure who gets in your way only serves to muddy your message and demeans you in the process. The people who oppose you have no conscience or sense of proportion in the things they say about you. Please don't stoop to their level. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for not calling names and I respect your opinions. But the Secret Service (SS) did harrass her and offered a veiled threat. That was pretty intimidating I imagine. And, sadly, too many people in this country are acting toward their fellow Americans just like Nazis treated their countrymen way back when. You only have to read this blog to see the proof of that! The comparison is, I believe, not out of line. I believe, in large part, the Nazi comparison is so uncomfortable for some people because the truth hurts.

State's military presence aids in storm relief
While some Guard members fight in Iraq, others battle elements.
August 30, 2005

Though thousands of its members are half a world away, gearing up in Iraq to begin their journey home from war, the Louisiana Army National Guard this week is tackling its other primary mission, disaster relief.

It's no surprise. In June long before the 2005 hurricane season shifted into overdrive, the state military's second-in-command, Brig. Gen. Hunt Downer, told The Times the Louisiana Army National Guard was practiced and ready to handle the big storms.

"We have enough troops remaining here in the state," Downer said. "We've always done that. And as in all cases, we move troops around to meet where the need's going to be. Not many really appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the National Guard, (that) we have a dual mission."

P.S. If you'd really like to support the troops, you could begin by not belittling them and their herculean efforts. They're not just a bunch of mindless, helpless arcade targets.

Yep, all that National Guard equipment--the M1A2 Abrams tanks, the Bradley IFVs, the HMMWVs... do such a great job in 15-20 feet of water. You are a genius! We can drown our tank crews here, as opposed to have them fight and possibly die for freedom in foriegn lands for people who probably don't deserve it.

Let the little brown people in Iraq and Afghanistan Iraq die, and the Jews in Israel as well. They aren't worth white American lives, especially that of Jesus Casey Christ.

That is what you meant to say, isn't it?

Yes, Cindy, you did have my sympathy, right up to the point where you claimed the President's policies were responsible for Hurricane Katrina. Even when you called the President a terrorist and the insurgents in Iraq freedom fighters, I sadly shook my head and thought to myself, "This is a distraught women and her loss is deserving of my sympathy." By claiming that Bush environmental policies contributed to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, you have stripped yourself of the robes of credibility (if truly you had any to begin with) and now stand garbed only in the shrill, hysterical and unbelievable rantings of the far left. You do a disservice to all of our citizens who have lost a loved one in Iraq, regardless of whether on not they agree with the policies of the administration.

Climate is an extremely difficuly thing to predict. From year to year, our climate changes
AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PRESIDENT BUSH. Instead of pontificating on things
you are ignorant about, why don't you try learning something. Try reading from sources other
than what your handlers give you.

Try this article for one. It is an interview of William Gray in Discover magazine. In it, Kathy Svitil states that Dr. Gray "... may be be the world's most famous hurricane expert."

Here is a portion of the interview:

A few years ago, you almost called it quits because you’d lost so much funding. What made you continue?
G: I don’t have the budget that I had, so I have cut my project way back. I am in retirement. I’m still working every day, but I don’t teach and I don’t have as many graduate students and as much financial need. I’ve got a little money from Lexington Insurance out of Boston, and I have some National Science Foundation money. For years I haven’t had any NOAA, NASA, or Navy money. But I’m having more fun. Right now I’m trying to work on this human-induced global-warming thing that I think is grossly exaggerated.

You don’t believe global warming is causing climate change?
G: No. If it is, it is causing such a small part that it is negligible. I’m not disputing that there has been global warming. There was a lot of global warming in the 1930s and ’40s, and then there was a slight global cooling from the middle ’40s to the early ’70s. And there has been warming since the middle ’70s, especially in the last 10 years. But this is natural, due to ocean circulation changes and other factors. It is not human induced.

That must be a controversial position among hurricane researchers.
G: Nearly all of my colleagues who have been around 40 or 50 years are skeptical as hell about this whole global-warming thing. But no one asks us. If you don’t know anything about how the atmosphere functions, you will of course say, “Look, greenhouse gases are going up, the globe is warming, they must be related.

Before you dismiss the possibility of links between environmental policies and weather phenomena, read and consider some facts.

What facts??

Have you read the report that the National Science Academy sent to President Bush in
2001 regarding Global Warming? Not what someone has summarized, but the actual
report. Probably not. There are so many qualifiers -- just on the first page -- I'm not sure
what is fact and what is conjecture. Just read this quote from your first link:

"Global warming is not necessarily causing more hurricanes, but it may well be causing bigger and more powerful ones," says James J. McCarthy, a biological oceanographer at Harvard University and lead author of the climate change impacts portion of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Third Assessment Report (2001).

So, to put it another way, global warming may not be causing more hurricanes and may
not be causing bigger and more powerful storms. That is really convincing.

There is data that directly contradicts the theory that increased emmisions of Greenhouse
gasses are causing global warming. Data indicates that the temperature in the upper atmosphere has experienced no increase in temperature and perhaps has even cooled. According the theory being rammed
down our throats, the upper atmosphere should be experiencing an increase in temperature
30% greater than what we are experience on the ground.

Some calamitogists have reexamined the data from the upper atmosphere measurements
and have "determined" that there were various errors in the measurements. When correcting for those errors, they "determine" that the incease in upper atmospheric temperature should be about the same as the ground.

The problem is -- even if they are right -- the theory predicts an increase 30% greater than what is predicted for the ground.

In other words, even when they fix the data, they can't match what they observe on
