Louisiana National Guard troops watch Katrina from Iraq

From 8/28/05:

More than 3,000 members of the Louisiana National Guard’s 256th Brigade serving in Iraq can only watch from Baghdad as Hurricane Katrina bears down on their families and homes in New Orleans and the other south Louisiana communities from which they hail. The deployed soldiers and their equipment, which includes high water vehicles, Humvees and generators, will be sorely missed as Louisiana attempts to prepare for and recover from the historic Category Five storm.

The soldiers of the 256th are due home in October, assuming their tour isn’t extended to beef up US troop levels in Iraq for the October constitutional referendum and December general elections. Mississippi and Alabama, the other states under threat from Katrina’s second assault on the Gulf Coast, also have Guard contingents in Iraq, with 3,500 troops of Mississippi’s 155th Brigade Combat Team serving near Karbala and Najaf, while 140 Alabama Guard troops left last Sunday for training preparatory to joining some 2,000 Alabama troops already deployed overseas.

Governors throughout the country have watched anxiously as the Guard units they count on to see their states through natural disasters have been called up for service in Iraq, in many cases leaving behind tanks and other heavy armor while taking with them the kinds of equipment that are most valuable in coping with the aftermath of storms, floods and earthquakes.

President Bush has already created one Gulf wasteland. In a few days he’ll be offering condolences to the residents of another; one he didn’t create, only stripped of its guardians in service of something he can’t even define.

Note, other articles are saying that there are enough National Guard troops to do the job, but that might just be the media telling people what they want to hear.

So, with the Hurricane Kartrina and the much needed aid, where are
our "Ruling Class" with their Billions of dollars they have bled us for over the years. Today, less than 1% of our population controls over 98% of the wealth.

Yes, we were forced at gun point to bow down to the mighty god of capitalism and cast off all other economic models.

So, where are all those "Thousand Points of Light" in the Billionaire Boyz Clubs? I sure as hell don't see Poppa Bush or any of the Wal-Mart Walton klan pulling out the check books. I guess they need to check with their lawyers first to make sure they can use it as a tax write off.

I don't see "her majesty the Queen" sending any aid or our good friends in Israel (but, I am sure our check to Israel to pay for all the settlers to relocate will be paid in full and on time).

"Life Styles of the Rich and Famous - We don't care, we don't have to."

President Bush has our troops tied up in Iraq , not even giving thought at the time he employed them to Iraq for his war on oil, that there could be such a natural disaster here at home and that they all would be needed . He had not the forsight that a disaster of this magnatude could ever happen here at home? My God what would happen right now if a few terrorists happened across our borders and decided now is the time to take advantage of our misfortune of this hurricane hitting our nation? There is no way we have anough reserves here in our nation to handle all that would be going on. Its bad enough right now.

All that money for this war could have been used if bush would have butted out of Iraq's own business and let them handle their own problems as everyone else has to. I don't mind giving a helping hand to anyone in need ,but you have to take care of your own family first before you can reach out to help others.

What kind of father would feed the other person across town when their own child is starving at their house?

We have oil flowing from Alaska...going to Japan. Does that make any sense to you? Someone tell me this is wrong. Bring our troops home now!
