America the Beautiful

http://crawfordupdate.blogspot.com/

Joan Baez stayed an extra day with us at Camp Casey to meet with Iraq vets and military families. Last night she performed again, interspersing stories of her activism during the Civil Rights and Vietnam era. She opened by leading us in an a capella version of "America the Beautiful."

Who really gives a rip about Joan Baez, I mean really... The last time she performed it had to have been for free... Give me a break, you speak of her now because she supports your odacity like she is some sort of role model... Thats who I want leading my cause for action.... LOL

I have been a fan of Joan Baez since the 60s.

As a guitar player, I admire her technique and fluidity.
My guitars must be broken, because they don't sound like hers!! ;-)

As a song writer, I admire her mastery of the muses.

As a performer, I sit in awe at her singing talent and abilitty to hold an audience.

As a fellow human being, I admire her heart and courage to stand up against the Patrirachal Power Structures. Unless you have been there, you have no idea how women were/are treated in the music "Industry".

As an activist, I cannot even fathom carrying out the "ACTIONS" this woman has done over the years.

. . . and I guess I still have a school boy crush on her because I see her as one of the most beautiful people on the planet.

Perhaps one of the problems with young men growing up in a Fascist
environment is that they fail to honor the wisdom of the wise woman.
It is the clever and humble "fool" that sits at the feet of Baba Yaga and eats the dinner that the wise woman prepares.

"Woman I can hardly express,
My mixed emotion at my thoughtlessness,
After all I'm forever in your debt,
And woman I will try express,
My inner feelings and thankfullness,
For showing me the meaning of succsess"
- John Lennon

peace.
