Congressman Sherman To Co-Sponsor H. Res. 375
At a meeting with representatives of Valley Grassroots For Democracy, Daniel Tamm and John Heaner, Congressman Brad Sherman (D-27th CD) agreed to co-sponsor H. Res. 375 - the Resolution of Inquiry, introduced by Democratic Bay Area Representative Barbara Lee. The resolution requests the President and directs the Secretary of State to transmit to the House of Representatives all information in their possession relating to communication with officials of the United Kingdom between January 1, 2002, and October 16, 2002, relating to the policy of the United States with respect to Iraq. You can read a copy of H. Res. 375 at http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/downloads/roi-onepage.pdf
The Congressman also agreed to study Rep. Mike Honda's bill, HR 551. It is the STUDENT PRIVACY ACT of 2005. It requires changing the language in the so-called NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT. Currently, parents are required to opt OUT in writing by a certain date (October 21st) of having their children's contact information shared with military recruiters. Honda's bill would change the language to make it necessary for parents to opt IN, for permission to be granted to the schools' sharing of information with the military. Moving HR 551 out of committee is one of the goals of VGFD's Truth In Recruiting effort.
Please join us in thanking Rep. Sherman for listening to this urgent call for truth. Pressure must be brought to bear and light must be shined on the Bush administration's decision-making process in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq. Please express your appreciation of Sherman's principled stand personally by calling or writing to him today:
