My Wife Left Crawford Today. After-Thoughts

... and not the same as when she left.

Reflections
(Coming home tomorrow night and expressing how things aren't the same as they were before she went down there.) Hilites for today were the Interfaith Service this morning that was excellent and beautiful. Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif) arrived and met with the reps from MFSO, VFP and Gold Star Families (the coalition) and this meeting was worth it.
She will fly home tomorrow, arriving in the evening in Portland and spend the night there at her son's home. Will be in Bay Center Tuesday night.

After-Crawford thoughts:
It's about our soldiers ... always was and always will be. The Interfaith Service this morning among other things emphasized the dignity of military service and being a soldier.

The coalition between MFSO, Gold Star Families, VFP and the many others has coalesced in a powerful way and an effort needs to be made to strengthen linkage, joint efforts and mutual support of that dignity of our loved ones.

The callous political behavior of the pro-Bush demonstrators in Texas reveals a fundamental disregard of that dignity, preferring instead to say and do what it takes to support their guy. The "We Don't Care!" act implied strongly that "We support Bush ... We don't care ... and Bush doesn't care."

Bottom line is that the dignified life and duty of a single soldier is worth more and deserves much more than treatment as a political cause in such a way that leaves so many who may never be in harm's way behaving badly at the behest of manipulators who do not have the welfare of our military as the highest good of all concerned.

Camp Casey has never taken its eye off the soldiers and the willful actions of leaders and a president that have placed them in entrapment. The pain of those at Camp Casey in seeing regard for their loved ones and their own sacrifices ridiculed as mere opposition to a political party was palpable.

The more that kind of mindless support for Bush in the absence of recognition of the dignity and worth of those serving in the military, the greater the power of Camp Casey. It is for us to move it further in each of our localities.

If we do that, the silent majority will awaken and be a force Bush and his henchmen cannot manipulate. That is why attempts to smear Cindy have not generated the national reaction intended. They are losing.

No more killing .... no more.

The American Dream
Words and Music by
Michael de Martino

I was born in America
The land of the brave, the free
I was told of the American dream
Where everyone’s supposed to be free
I was born in America
The land of the guiding light
I never dreamed that the dream’d be taken
Away from me
But somebody’s done it
Somebody went and stole the American dream.

If you’re born in America
You better get ready to fight
The time of peace is beyond us now
America’s flexing its might
I was born in America
The land of the brave, the free
I never dreamed that the dream’d be taken
Away from me
But somebody’s done it
Somebody went and stole the American dream.

Well the soldiers are marching
The countries at war
All our troops have been dying, cause there armor’s so poor
Yeah, This is a country where you’re supposed to be free
But someone’s been lying to you
They’ve been lying to me

Somebody went and stole the American
Somebody went and stole the American
Somebody went and stole the American dream
The American dream
The dream
The American dream

This is a volunteer military not mandatory as previous wars. Your son volunteered. Do you get it, not scripted, volunteered.

While your loss is unfortunate your misguided and ignorance of the bigger picture are almost overwhelming. Why anyone, expecially the government of the United States would give you ten minutes of their time to respond or placate you is due to the press coverage afforded by libertarian media personnel.

Mourn your loss and thank God you have men and women like your son who are willing to serve their country honorably to allow you and others like you the opportunity to voice your opinions for and against US Government policy.

As you know, you troll, that's not the point. They are serving oil dreams and corporate profits...Bush and his cronies have turned them into mercenaries for their gain. Our children, husbands, mothers, wives don't deserve that. Not from you, not from George and not from his gang of thugs. Birds of a feather flock together. See Abramoff, Tom DeLay, Karl Rove, Judy Mitchell et al. I guess this is a good way to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I believe you mean conscripted... not scripted... and liberal media not libertarian media... Probably should get your talking points straight...BTW the fact that he volunteered doesn't mean the war was right.. or that we should still be there...

My son joined the Army to defend our country, not to take over other people's country, set-up checkpoints and kill them. People who support George Bush and his neo-con cabal are not defending our country. They are destroying it.

Let me assure, no child of mine will ever join the military again. If I had had any idea that a war criminal would take over our government, Gabriel would not have either.

Cindy is a most honorable and courageous woman; whose words and actions have made the difference this country needs in putting the truth in perspective. Those that dont "seem to get it" are either
totally ignorant or in league with the conspiracy.

If you truly dont get it...its ironic that you found this website,
missing ALL the rest of the info on the web; like the stolen elections of 2000 and 2004, the real truth about 9/11 and who the
Bushes really are. Try looking up Marvin Bush and his involvement
in 9/11. Ask yourself why we never hear about him.
Cindy has not joined the leftwing as Bill Oreilly sez; its more that
she has succeeded in giving the people their voice, Thank God.
THANK YOU CINDY!!!!!!!! With You in Spirit ALWAYS...Leah

So did I ... in 1968 five months after the Tet offensive. I dropped out of college and enlisted.

And like the current volunteers who are described by worn-out conservative flag-wearers, I had a rough idea of what I was getting into. That "rough idea" was based on trust ... trust in a system and, ultimately, trust in a specific leader and a specific governing political party.

The specific leader of course was LBJ, the specific party was the Democratic Party and the specific system was and is the system that allows us to hang our political opinions on buttons and sanctimonious drapery of stars and stripes from which we belch our prejudices.

When you sign up you endorse a contract on the bottom line. It's a contract with specified written obligations on the part of both parties, but also with unspecified but powerful assumptions on the part of both parties.

In the case of joining the military knowing what you are getting into is based on very powerful unwritten but nationally accepted assumptions:

(1) The integrity and honor of the commander in chief of the military and that CIC's skill, wisdom and understanding of all reasons when and why military citizens are to be placed in harm's way.

As a volunteer you are at the mercy of that individual, his party and their combined priorities - with a strong expectatin that those priorities extend beyond a desire to remain in the driver's seat.

As a volunteer you are at the mercy of your own fellow citizens (including your own family) whom you trust to be willing and supportive in making sure the leadership does not waste your vital blood, devotion and patriotism in pipe dreams, self-interested agenda's and idealogies; That leaders are driven by a genuine desire to involve the country in on-going mutual participation and compromise regarding foreign policiy before resorting to force as a last resort.

(3) Volunteering to become a soldier is volunteering to preserve and protect - with your own power and will - the country, it's borders, its citizens and its institutions. It isn't volunteering to keep a political party in power. The only way to avoid that circumstance is for the citizens to assume their rightful role in the triangular relationship with the troops and the CIC.

The troops are expected to trust the CIC's wisdom as well as the patriotic participation of the Citizens who will keep the CIC honest.

The CIC is expected to trust the troops to follow orders and expects to sustain by honesty and integrity the support of the Citizens.

The Citizens expect the troops to do their duties and expect the CIC to sustain by honesty and integrity his political authority. The Citizens must be willing to hold the CIC accountable and willfully resist when the honesty and integrity of leadership is absent.

That is what is going on right now. The President has demonstrated a lack of leadership at a time when leadership is needed. The killing continues daily .... and we are witness to a repeat of a leader who is like a deer caught in the headlights ... sitting there ... doing nothing ... pondering what ... while pretending to enjoy "My Pet Goat."

When you Abuse the Honor of the People, as the Right Wing-Nuts have Done over many, many years, your Power should be taken away.

Republicians are killing this country everyday, and they say It's their right, becuase like WW2, if you stay here you deserve it.
