Judge Orders Release of Abu Ghraib Child Rape Photos

By Greg Mitchell, http://www.editorandpublisher.com

NEW YORK A federal judge ruled today that graphic pictures of detainee abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison must be released over government claims that they could damage America's image. Last year a Republican senator conceded that they contained scenes of "rape and murder" and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said they included acts that were "blatantly sadistic."

U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein ordered the release of certain pictures in a 50-page decision that said terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan have proven they "do not need pretexts for their barbarism."

The ACLU has sought the release of 87 photographs and four videotapes taken at the prison as part of an October 2003 lawsuit demanding information on the treatment of detainees in U.S. custody and the transfer of prisoners to countries known to use torture.

Gen. John Abizaid, commander of U.S. Central Command, said Thursday that releasing the photos would hinder his work against terrorism. "When we continue to pick at the wound and show the pictures over and over again it just creates the image--a false image--like this is the sort of stuff that is happening anew, and it's not," Abizaid said.

The judge said, however, that "the freedoms that we champion are as important to our success in Iraq and Afghanistan as the guns and missiles with which our troops are armed."

An ACLU release this afternoon said it was getting 70 photos and three video tapes. It also said that the government is being given 20 days to appeal.

What is shown on the photographs and videos from Abu Ghraib prison that the Pentagon has blocked from release? One clue: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told Congress last year, after viewing a large cache of unreleased images, "I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe." They show acts "that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhumane," he added.

A Republican Senator suggested the same day they contained scenes of "rape and murder." Rumsfeld then commented, "If these are released to the public, obviously it's going to make matters worse."

The photos were among thousands turned over by the key "whistleblower" in the scandal, Specialist Joseph M. Darby. Just a few that were released to the press sparked the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal last year, and the video images are said to be even more shocking.

“Today's historic ruling is a step toward ensuring that our government's leaders are held accountable for the abuse and torture that happened on their watch,” said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. “The American public has a right to know what happened in American detention centers, and how our leaders let it occur."

One Pentagon lawyer has argued that they should not be released because they would only add to the humiliation of the prisoners. But the ACLU has said the faces of the victims can easily be "redacted."

To get a sense of what may be shown in these images, one has to go back to press reports from when the Abu Ghraib abuse scandal was still front page news.

This is how CNN reported it on May 8, 2004, in a typical account that day:

"U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld revealed Friday that videos and 'a lot more pictures' exist of the abuse of Iraqis held at Abu Ghraib prison.

"'If these are released to the public, obviously it's going to make matters worse,' Rumsfeld told the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe.'

"The embattled defense secretary fielded sharp and skeptical questions from lawmakers as he testified about the growing prisoner abuse scandal. A military report about that abuse describes detainees being threatened, sodomized with a chemical light and forced into sexually humiliating poses.

"Charges have been brought against seven service members, and investigations into events at the prison continue.

"Military investigators have looked into -- or are continuing to investigate -- 35 cases of alleged abuse or deaths of prisoners in detention facilities in the Central Command theater, according to Army Secretary Les Brownlee. Two of those cases were deemed homicides, he said.

"'The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. We're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience,' Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told reporters after Rumsfeld testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee. 'We're talking about rape and murder -- and some very serious charges.'

"A report by Maj. Gen. Antonio Taguba on the abuse at the prison outside Baghdad says videotapes and photographs show naked detainees, and that groups of men were forced to masturbate while being photographed and videotaped. Taguba also found evidence of a 'male MP guard having sex with a female detainee.'

"Rumsfeld told Congress the unrevealed photos and videos contain acts 'that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhuman.'"

The military later screened some of the images for lawmakers, who said they showed, among other things, attack dogs snarling at cowed prisoners, Iraqi women forced to expose their breasts, and naked prisoners forced to have sex with each other.

In the same period, reporter Seymour Hersh, who helped uncover the scandal, said in a speech before an ACLU convention: "Some of the worse that happened that you don't know about, ok? Videos, there are women there. Some of you may have read they were passing letters, communications out to their men ... . The women were passing messages saying 'Please come and kill me, because of what's happened.'

"Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror it's going to come out."

Judge Hellerstein said today that publication of the photographs will help to answer questions not only about the unlawful conduct of American soldiers, but about “the command structure that failed to exercise discipline over the troops, and the persons in that command structure whose failures in exercising supervision may make them culpable along with the soldiers who were court-martialed for perpetrating the wrongs.”

These war crimes should be exposed and shown everywhere. The war-crimes of the 'liberators' should be available for all to see.

These people are just as bad as the Germans and Japanese were supposed to be during the 1930-40s and earlier, in some cases.

All that money spent and wasted for an illegal invasion of a soverign country that was threatening no one. The invaders turned out to be worse than the leaders they replaced.

Reparations for the rape victims and other victims of US Justice should be forthcoming. There is no excuse for this torture casually referred to as hazing or blowing off steam, according to the mouthpiece of the GOP Rush and other people who excuse anything so long as it is done in the name of their Lord and Saviour Scrubbo.

If you want to protect the nation, it would be good if you didn't send people who get off on torturing and raping people who didn't do anything to anyone. Treating prisoners, most of them later released as not being involved in any insurgency, with dignity and respect would be the second-best deterrent against terrorism. The best deterrent would have been not to invade a nation who had nothing to do with any attacks in the US.

Actually, the best deterrent would have been to not have elected chickenhawk, fascist, neocons whose only goal is to steal money from Iraq and the U.S. taxpayers.

I know, they were never elected because the elections were stolen in 2000, 2002 and 2004. But we allowed that happen, so the crimes of Bush/Cheney rest heavily upon all of our shoulders.

I agree with you. I am a born-again Christian, and through these acts, AMERICA is setting the stage for great persecution againt "Christians" because America touts herself as a Christian nation - although we know that is true of NO nation. I am ashamed of America, but NO ONE I know, knows or cares about all this stuff. What a shame! I'm done with the political process. People think that a president who says he's a Christian, IS, just because of all his words, not his fruits! I BELIEVE WE ARE THE BABYLON OF JEREMIAH 50 and 51, and Revelation 17 and 18. So the end of the story for America is very sad! I'm so glad that I know my redeemer. There is NO political answer for America, nor any nation, and Jesus taught that you will reap what you sow. God help these demons who use war as an excuse to rape and torture! Their day is coming!

Come on the country is built on lies. And as far as religion goes how many millions were killed in the name of god, better yet how many women & children were wiped out by god himself?

propaganda is what it is!Feeble minded pieces of sh*& like you are the reason we're still there. We have to handle people that would kill us for no reason with kid gloves because you whining pussies have tied our hands. You cry ,WE die!1st off these are not your next door neighbors and to assume they even think like us is a mistake that would cost you your life that guys like us have protected. You have the right to say what you want....your welcome for that one.Truth is these people want you and I dead....period.They dont care Dave's a good guy. They think you should die because you don't believe in what they do.Fact is Dave,I don't believe you should have the right to cary around a set of balls.Because of "and I use the term loosley"guys like you,We're still there. You have to fight impractial warfare with impractical tactics!Oh yeah and Dave...I'm flat out calling you a coward and a gutless turd...my name is Robert Uherek and I Live in Deer Park Washington....I Don't live to far if you need the Canadian Shit Kicked out of you!Pussy!

You are a complete dirtbag and a blight on both our nation's military (if you've even ever served - which I doubt, most guys that talk tough like you haven't done a thing) and our country in general. It's people like you that have enabled the worst acts ever committed in the name of this country.

First off, no "pussies" tied your hands. It was the Geneva Convention. And since the Bush Administration has zero respect for the rule of law AND place sado-masochist rapists in charge you can hardly claim that we had "kid gloves" on while deciding the outcome of this war. According to you, raping children is not only okay, but it's just not enough! That's disgusting!

I can only imagine that you are one of the pedophiles the army placed in Abu Ghraib and you are just trying to vindicate the same actions that make you think about placing that pistol in your mouth and pulling the trigger.

Fuck you.

- A (Proud) Veteran

Dumb-ass chickenhawk neocon racist... I'd like to see you attempt to fight--that is, if you can stop jerking off to Faux News and get away from your armchair and six-pack.

[Wow, it feels great to respond to a troll, even though it's totally pointless...]

that is so krazi what should feel safe at all times yall thisty mans need to slow down

well.. the story of the prison is simply a symptom. Go for after it in pieces -- but remember to go after the head. Otherwise you are wasting your time. How did you arrive at this psychotic doorway and step??:

..Then there is the Fed.

Loose the Fed, and you might start to get your country back.

For those unaware, the Fed (Fedreal Reserve Bank) is a private company (corporation) run by your biggest banks..and ...behind sealed doors...has never been audited! what am I saying? Well, zero oversight and zero control, of the actual issuance and control of money and debt, and the entire flow and heartbeat of the US economy, in totality. All run by private banks. And for every dolar they create, they issue a debt attached to it, so you can NEVER get the US out of debt to the banks, which is why the Fed --MUST-- be torn down.

If that does not scare you, or make it obvious and clear why no realistic political agenda has survived in your country for almost 100 years, then I don't know what will. The Fed --must-- die.

So no, the US government does NOT control the economy - your banks, your privately held banks do. Which is a very large part of why your country is going down the drain. The Fed -MUST- be torn down. With extreme prejudice. It is a purely illegal and unethical facist enterprise, that was pushed through congress at 11:45pm, christmas eve, 1913. When no-one was looking. Just like the Patriot act. Same people, same aim. The complete control of the US economy. In the case of the Patriot act, the complete control of the US, period. And to use that power to subjugate the US, and use the US to hammer the rest of the world. You are being lied to, to use you -and your family's and friend's lives- as a weapon against yourself, and the rest of the world.

Your earliest Presidents were vehemently adamant about NEVER let ANY banks or financial corporations anywhere near the control of the US dollar. In that enterprise, only the tyranny of facisim exists, and those US presidents..they damn well spoke that out loud. And often.

Well..just look at you now. Complacent and weak in your convictions..and it is on the verge of costing you everything. All because people want TV, sports and the garbage of 'mass distraction' instead of reality. And it's on the verge of costing you....everything. So stupidly weak and complacent that they get angry at anyone who tries to tell them the truth.

Folks say, that's a HUGE conspiracy, it can't be true, too many people would know! True. But look at China. Look at North Korea. Look at Russia. 10's of thousands of people involved, if not 100's of thousands. All controlled by the few who hold the whole thing together. So, no, it's not some conspiracy fantasy, the evidence of such is in other countries, right in front of you, every day.

Now it's YOUR turn to understand that reality.

Anyway, I won't ramble, for anyone reading this , it's like preaching to the Pew. Wasted energy. Please go and anger the uninformed by trying to tell them this. It's vitally important. And don't take no for an answer.

Thank you.

Beast? Put your sister, your daughter, your mother, your son's face on that Iragi woman. We call the Iragi resistance, insurgency and terrorist? Well maybe they feel they are fighting the beast. These stinky rapist pigs.

Militarism is the subject of a lot of research, including the influence of martial law and the military-socialist complex. Much of the work overlooks the historical impact in the United States, its effects upon the rest of the world, and fears of martial law and military socialism today.
http://rexcurry.net/military-socialism-militarism-socialist-complex.html

Militarism was specifically promoted in the USA in 1888 as "military socialism" by Edward Bellamy, author of the book "Looking Backward from 2000 to 1887." The book was an international bestseller and was tranlsated into every major language including German, Russian and Chinese. It appears by title in many of the major Marxist writings of the day. Clubs sprang up in the USA and worldwide for touting the book's ideas. The Bellamy dogma influenced socialists worldwide, including the countries of the socialist Wholecaust (of which the Holocaust was a part): 65 million dead under the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; 49 million under the Peoples' Republic of China; 21 million under the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSGWP).

The Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. flag originally (1892 to 1945) began with a military salute. The pledge was written by Francis Bellamy, cousin and cohort to Edward. The pledge was created to promote their military socialism in the most socialistic institution: government schools (socialized schools). They wanted government to take over all schools and create the "industrial army" from children to spread the Bellamy vision. The Bellamys admired the military and they wanted all of society to ape the military under a martial law system.

The most socialistic institutions in the USA -and the cause of the spread of socialism throughout the USA- has been the military and government schools (socialist schools).

The military salute began the Pledge of Allegiance and the gesture was then extended toward the flag with a straight-arm gesture and thus, Francis' early pledge was the origin of the straight-arm salute of German National Socialism as discovered by the historian Dr. Rex Curry, author of "Pledge of Allegiance Secrets." Shocking photos are on the web.
http://rexcurry.net/book1a1contents-pledge.html

Early flag ettiquette for men in uniform was to perform the straight-arm salute - not the military salute - when the flag was passing or when the Pledge of Allegiance was being robotically chanted. That practice lasted as long as 1942 for civilians.

The Sunday Times-Signal in Zanesville, Ohio of August 9, 1942 states, "When the flag is passing in parade or in review, all persons present should face the flag, stand at attention and salute. Those present in uniform should render the right-hand salute." The same article distinguishes the behavior for the actual Pledge of Allegiance by stating that during the pledge, "Persons in uniform shall render the military salute." A photograph is provided of the right-hand salute showing a stiff arm salute with the palm up. The arm and the palm are so stiff and straight that, at a greater distance, the viewer would have difficulty discerning the direction of the palm.

Several newspapers carried an article similar to the one in the Bismarck Tribune on May 28, 1926. It states that during the pledge of allegiance "persons in uniform render the right-hand salute."

The Daily Northwestern Newspaper (Thursday Evening) March 8, 1917, explains that the military salute has an outward extension. "Standing- at attention, raise the right hand to the forehead Over the right eye, palm downward, fingers extended and close together, arm at an angle of forty-five degrees. Move hand outward about a foot, with a quick motion,
then drop to the side."

The original Pledge of Allegiance began with a military salute that was then extended out toward the flag. That is how the classic stylized straight-arm salute originated in the USA's pledge.

As consequence, the USA set a bad example for a long time, as the world observed the U.S. military delivering the straight-arm salute to the flag before WWI, during WWI, after WWI, and for up to three decades before the existence of the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

People were persecuted for refusing to pledge or to perform the straight-arm salute to the national flag. That was to the flag of the USA (the stars and stripes) and of Germany (the swastika flag) as it happened at the same time. Some religious people considered it sacrilegious. There were good reasons to view the pledge/salute as the worship of government. Most people do not know that a cross was worshiped as the notorious symbol of German National Socialism. The NSGWP called their symbol the Hakenkreuz, not the swastika. Hakenkreuz means "hooked cross." Although the swastika was an ancient symbol, Professor Rex Curry (author of "Swastika Secrets") discovered that it was also used sometimes by German National Socialists to represent "S" letters for their "socialism." With a 45 degree turn of his Hakenkreuz, the leader of the NSGWP combined the cross with collectivism, merged church and state, meshed religion and socialism, and mandated the worship of government. http://rexcurry.net/book1a1contents-swastika.html

The Bellamy desire for government schools (and their use for socialist militarism) was a monstrous example to the world for decades and still is.

Many socialists who adopted the straight-arm salute (e.g. the National Socialist German Workers' Party) later, knew that the salute was being used in government schools in the U.S. to promote the military-socialism complex.

Jewish children were forced to perform the socialist straight-arm salute in government schools in the U.S. long before the National Socialist German Workers' Party existed, and for years thereafter while the horrid party tried to impose socialism everywhere.
http://rexcurry.net/swastikamain.html

Government schools (socialist schools) expelled children who did not perform the original salute and pledge to the U.S. flag.
http://rexcurry.net/pledge_military.html

Bellamy belonged to a group known for "Nationalism," whose members wanted the federal government to nationalize most of the domestic economy. He saw government schools as a means to that end. It was a view later shared in the military-socialist complex of the socialist trio of atrocities.

In his Pledge of Allegiance, Francis Bellamy is expressing the ideas of his first cousin, Edward Bellamy, author of the American socialist utopian novels, Looking Backward (1888) and Equality (1897).

Bellamy’s “Looking Backward” is about a man who sleeps from 1887 until the year 2000. The United States has become one giant socialist monopoly (excuse the redundancy). The book openly portrays men treated as military draftees, from the age of twenty-one until the age of forty-five, in the U.S.’s industrial army. Before the age of twenty-one, men attend one enormous school system of government schools that are an integral part of creating the industrial army in the socialist system. Bellamy’s glorification of the military includes government assignment of all jobs. Everyone is issued ration cards which are used to draw goods from government storehouses. Everyone is forced to have only the same amount in value annually.

Of course, all of the preceding is portrayed as a dandy utopia just as it was in the military socialist complex of the socialist trio of atrocities and elsewhere.

The book was translated into 20 foreign languages. It was popular among the elite in pre-revolutionary Russia, and was even read by Lenin's wife. John Dewey and the historian Charles Beard intended to praise the book by stating that it was matched in influence only by Das Kapital.

Dude, let's at least get some basic definitions straight. The US has become a capitalist dictatorship, not a socialist dictatorship. How could anyone possibly think that the US is socialist? Generally, only people that seem to be free market fanatics, often labeling themselves as "libertarians" would actually say with a straight face that the US is socialist. Personally, I think all this nonsense about the public schools in the US being socialist indoctrination centers is disinfo put out by the CIA do dupe those who are simple-minded enough to be brainwashed into this free market fundamentallist crap.

All property and profits of military contractors, and thier employees, whose personel were involved in these rapes should be confiscated. Buildings, office eqipment, homes, cars, college funds, jewelry, church donations, everything. Ditto for their share holders.

That is what happens to the Mob and these people are the Mob.

Also the death penalty needs to be explored for some people involved. If they are immune because the current status of contractors makes them unaccountable to US and Iraqi laws then Congress must pass retroactive laws making them accountable.

Saddam has it correct: Kill all the Americans.

Lets not get in killing anyone here. this is about finding the guilty parties and making them pay for what they have done. I am an american and I have done nothing wrong. There are innocent people all over the world who are dying for something they did not start. And there are people living who have committed unspeakable crimes and are walking free, let's pull together and do something about it instead of pointing fingers at who did what. I think anyone who blames a whole country or race of people for what one person or group has done has something to hide.

I'm just wondering how much of a scandal erupted when they released those child-rape videos 20 days later.

Just the headline makes me sick to my stomach. THIS is what America has become under the "moral" leadership of Bush and the GOP.

"I tremble for my Country when I recall that GOD is just." Thomas Jefferson

What the hell do people think war is, anyway? Rules for war? Oh, sure, fine. War is the ultimate obscenity. One must defend if attacked, but anyone who willing starts a war, and anyone who willing goes to war for that individual is ultimately obscene. I do NOT support the troops. It is ALL obscene.

The photos described in the article still have not been released to the press.

So much for the rule of law in the land of the no longer free.

This article's over a year old. What is this, an anniversary reprint?

"Pictures say a 1000 words" So true. And sorry, but anyone can claim "Photo shopping" for this but anyone who wants to know the truth of the matter can find it. But, most Americans, don't want to leave their comfort zone of believing that America (at one time the defender of liberty and truth) could possibly have fallen to where we are today. They don't want to have to deal with that truth. It might interfere with their football Sundays, or SUV outings, or binge shopping trips.

Just like abortion, actual photos of this procedure have been available for years, detailing the death of an unborn child (not a Sunday picnic for the child: no doubt about it being torture, but because it's in the confines of a mother's womb and the child is labeled a fetus [a non-person until birth, it's ok). Just like the people being tortured today: in a prison and labeled an "enemy combatant", with no voice of their own and no rights-thanks to our bought and paid for Congress who wittingly passed the Homeland Security Act, ending the fair and humane treatment of anyone they deem and enemy combatant.
And of course anti-abortion organizations were barred time and again from being able to show these pictures in any Media format, newspaper, tv, etc., with the reasoning being that it is too graphic and would upset people.
So now we have a similar situation where actual photographs will upset people-Oh My God Help us all for wanting to remain blind to the truth of what we have actually become as a nation! God isn't going to say on judgement day "Oh, I understand, you are Americans fighting a war on terrorism." I'm sure he's going to ask "What in the world were you thinking?"
This current administration, with Bush at the helm claiming to be a God fearing Christian, is giving the entire world ammo to declare "If that's the kind of God the God of the bible is, I don't want any part of it!" Christian America OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE TRUTH OF WHO THIS MAN REALLY IS BEFORE IT'S TO LATE!!!!!!!

Military people, Also Known As: The lowest form of human life on the planet.

shut up.......if u werent there and actually felt what we went through....then dont judge us. we are not all like that. Im not saying what they did was right; it wasnt. But you sit down and think...what if many of your loved ones and close friends were gone and treated like crap before they died...yeah i think your mind would be somewhere else as well. SO DONT JUDGE IF U DIDNT GO THROUGH IT OR LOST SOMEONE SPECIAL IN THIS BIG MESS

I AGREE WITH YOUR STATEMENT, HOWEVER YOUR REASONS DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT NOR JUSTIFICATION THAT YOU PEOPLE CAN DO SUCH THINGS. THESE ARE INNOCENT PEOPLE FOR GOODNESS SAKE. AS MUCH YOU HAD MENTIONED HOW PEOPLE HAD LOSED THEIR LOVED ONES IN THIS MESS, SO DOES THIS PEOPLE AS NOT ONLY HAD THEY HAD NOT LOSE THEIR DIGNITY BUT ALSO THEIR LIVES.. IM SURE THIS DOES NOT OCCUR TO YOU AT ALL???? BUT SURE GOD IS FAIR. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN NOW, BUT THE DAY WILL COME SOON FOR THOSE WHO ARE INVOLVE IN THIS SICKENING ACT. ALLAHU AKHBAR

I pray to G-d that the hell you have visited on other people will come and live in america for the rest of time. America's days are numbered and the writing is on the wall.

I once used to be proud to have served in the Army. But after this war, I am now ashamed to have ever been connected to a military that would do such disgusting things. I am ashamed of the leaders who criminally put these criminals there. I am ashamed to be American.

Tracie F.

Hi friends,
Now before we throw the book at America let us think for a minute logically. America is not really who's to blame for this. A comparatively small group of men are. It is totally factual that the Bush family and their associates are proven WW2 Nazi collaberators, Prescott Bush and other prominent Americans like Allen Dulles former head of the CIA (before JFK sacked him after the bay of pigs incident)were funding Hitler through the Brown Brothers Harriman banking group. These men are all connected to, and helped George Bush Snr to rise to prominence. Through the Skull and Bones society based at Yale University these guys basically ran the CIA and there is much evidence that this group was behind the assasination of Kennedy. Now who do you think is behind 9/11 and the Iraq disaster? These people want a global dictatorship and are total fascists, and which superpower is in their way? America. I love you America, so lets get rid of the twisted power structures within and not the great country that has been corrupted by rich white opportunists, impeach Bush and all who control him, JCK.

Big deal. The majority of USA citizens wouldn't blink a eye. Who cares they will say, this is only a bunch of terrorist who hate America and will try to hurt us if they can. I was told that by many Americans when the first set of photos hit the news back 2003 or 2004. And we all KNOW and remember what happened don't we? Where are ALL the convicted high Pentagon officials? Oh, there aren't any except for a few low ranking scapegoats? Whatta surpise!

The children being raped will not permit anyone to even think that.

linked to on the comments section of this post are FAKE.

They were photoshopped, for starters. secondly, the ones of three/four guys and one women (who appears to be under assault) are guys in fake US military uniforms, and anyone with knowledge of the US military uniforms will easily pick this out.

you are only making yourself look gullible by posting this stuff. And the end result will be to discredit the real torture and rape that happened at abu Ghraib.

I am appalled and shocked by this article.

Readng this article was heart wrenching. I am an American, and I am so embarassed and ashamed at what some of these men did.

The whole thing bothers me but, the part about the women and children affected me the most. The cruel evildoers of the world are always attacking the most vulnerable. I am tired of hearing about rapists and child molestors, and I didn't realize some of our troop men were indeed some of the worst.

How cruel and disgusting!
American troops or not, these people need to pay because I certainly don't want them realeased into my society afterward, possibly to be so messed up that they continue their sickness out here in the U.S.

Gen. John Abizaid says this is not happening "anew." It's key to remember that this type of torture has been documented in Congressional hearings going back into the 1960s in Guatemala. The people trying to cover this up have been spewing this same excuse for 40+ years. Thank goodness for a judge that finally stands up and defends American values and has the guts to release the reality!

repressed sexuality

BUSH IS INCOMPETENT. Cheyney and Rumsfeld, along with Rice and Powell should be charged with TREASON.

You are being played. This whole "Scandle" is eye candy to keep the libs focused on an entertaining sex story while the other hand is achieving a goal you have missed. Do you really think the military could not keep absolute security on a project like this if they wanted to?
THe rest is crap. No children were raped in the making of this news sensation. Prove me wrong or STFU

NOT ONLY ARE YOU AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT BUT, YOU ARE IRRESPONSIBLE. MY PREDICTION? LIBERALISM WILL DIE OUT WHEN AMERICA REALISES THEY'VE BEEN DUPED BY THE "LYING LEFT" THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE... AND SO ARE YOU!

This should be an insult to all americans that our own government thinks were stupid enough to video tape, and take picture without being caught. Is this the type of people we have working for government? No wounder why Kerry said everyone in service is dumb. What idiot would do this let alone videotape, and photograph it. One day it will catch up to them. They will mess with the wrong person one of these days.

Most of the photos posted are Porn site photos made by "porn actors" in the former Soviet Union. These are on different porn sites and people post them on websites to "prove" that this is happening.

This is not to say that rape and torture doesn't happen from someone going wild or being evil. If you do a statistical study of say 10,000 people/men, you'll find that a certain percentage of them are rapists or criminals. So with any army there will be a small amount of bad apples and if you have 100,000 men and they are not under disipline and watched by others or you have dope or drinking involved and there are a certain amount of criminal elements, then some crimes will happen. And some crimes will happen with any invading army or army that is "overseeing" another country. It's a statistical certainty. This is not to give an excuse for those who do wrong, but to think that an entire nation is responsible for the crimes of a few, well that's why we have laws on the books to punish criminals.

Regarding torture and rape and brutality. It would seem that the former Iraqi government did a fair amount of that to the people under them. And there were hundreds of thousands killed over the years, but liberals aren't complaining about that. And they didn't want to bring that group down. Now let's look at the various actors and logic of their brutal methods.

1. Different tribes and Arabic factions with leaders and parties and different groups taking action. Some of these are mob-like. And some of the teachings of fundamentalist Islamics allow slavery, rape, etc as the conquered are merely property and have no rights. This is all in the Quran, and emphasized by radicals who do these things. So you have Talaban like groups and then you have secular thug groups.

2. The secular thug groups would be those like Sadaam, who the US setup to overpower other leaders and the group of people over there. Ethnic and religious and sub-group ties are very strong in these other parts of the world and the "right leader" and some are leaders who claim to be due to a bloodline to Mohammad, and others are fundamentalist group leaders supposedly spiritually leaders in Islam. Well it's all like the Mafia in a different color and vein and if you argue or stand up to them as a moderate, you may be killed or cooerced into keeping silent.

3. One of the pillars of Islam is if you reject it and leave, the true followers of the faith can kill you (by beheading) and bring you back into the faith through your death. It's a very primative religion of the masses over there. And these kinds of teachings merely allow this kind of thuggery to continue.

4. Your dealing with people who still think, live and act like they are in the 14th century. In those times and in some places of the world, there are no rules of warfare. Think about it there are no rules of warefare on the side of the terrorists. They will use anything and have no ban on weapons or strategy. Do you want to use a 9mm gun as a pistol, well it has to be solid ball ammo, because the US has signed treaties. If your a soldier you are limited to the weapons you can use. The enemy can use any kind of ammo. And if you look at Black Hawk Down you'll see a bit of the level of what the US is dealing with in these countries.

5. So if you fight one way, they will fight many other ways. And the other side isn't using it's highest qualified and most educated troops, but displaced ignorent terrorist misfits. Now if you train a Muslim and teach them, they will seek to learn how to build a bomb an threaten Israel and the rest of the world with it. If you give in to Islam then you submit as Spain did after the bombings.

6. If you have a mass of troops who are willing to continue to die and bomb. How can the USA win that war? That's the real question. If you quit you lose, if you don't you lose. And the real place people are losing in the USA is in the maturnity wards. If Islamics procreate at a greater rate than non-Islamics, then the world will eventually be Islam by democratic vote, so the pro-abortionist choice people better get their veils ready.

7. It doesn't matter how many elite troops you have if it's a relatively small amount. So we have 100,000 troops over there. So what? If they have 3,000,000 islamists from all over the world sign up and attack the troops in the USA can we win? There is a 20/1 kill rate of Americans against the Iraqis during the "war" in Iraq and most US Soldiers would say we are winning. There was a 20/1 kill rate in Vietnam also, did we win?

8. It's not a question of winning or loosing. The vast majority of humans willing to fight in Iraq are Iraqis themselves, so they will decide themselves. It's just a question of the civil war working itself out over there. We can see that it will be a long process and America is going to have to hang around and wait to negotiate deals with the winners.

9. Why are we there. We need energy and oil to survive. The thing we feared the Russians would do during the Cold war we ended up doing. Almost an Oil Monroe doctrine in a sense. We protected Saudi Arabia from Iraq, because our bulldog Sadaam went out of control. We protected Kuwait to stop Iraq. We invaded Iraq to get out of Saudi Arabia and get a forward base and lock on the oil supplies. If we have based in Iraq and it becomes stable, then we can get out of Saudi Arabia and not insult the fundamentalists by being there. Our mere presence in Saudi Arabia angers the fundamentalists. So in a way we are placating and fighting terrorism all at the same time. In one sense getting entrenced in a stable Iraq will allow us a way out of Saudi Arabia and we won't be insulting the fundamentalist movement of the terrorists.

In another sense once we are in a stable Iraq, we don't need Saudi Arabia, because their oil reserves might go dry anyway. And if they do we must have the Iraqi oil next. The world is slowely running out of oil and we know the US uses to much energy.

Unfortunately it's not easy to convert an economy into a green renewable one. However 600 billion dollars would have sure helped do this to the USA had we not invaded Iraq. But it's easier to leave people driving their SUV's and make a profit out of oil than to change America's buying desires.

10. Human desire and greed drive almost all consumerism. Think about it. It doesn't matter if the USA goes Green or not alone. As the US uses less China uses more. They are industrializing and buying many components and companies and even buildings and tooling and taking these out of America and building things in China. If you go to a local store almost everything in it was made in China. The 60 cents an hour slaves are profit makers and we are not going to go against China for it's brutal dictatorship or any past problems it had with the democracy movement, because there is to much money to be made from China. So the big boys who make big money are making a lot of short term profits from China and will continue to send manufacturing jobs over there. Pretty soon our defense aircraft will be made from there is we keep these things up.

So what does it all mean. Well even if America was perfect, and had nothing but photocells a huge powergrid, drove electric cars and used no oil at all from the Middle East, we'd still have a global problem because China would want the oil.

And from an energy and debt perspective we are screwed. We don't have enough energy to sustain growth against the ever increasing debt curve, everything is to over-inflated in value and perhaps eventually we'll see hyper-inflation devalue the worth of our assets. Perhaps that's one way to look at the problem and pay the bankers off eventually. We'll just print 10 times the money and reduce the debt by ten fold. Kind of like what Germany had to do before WWII. It won't be a solution, but it will be the only option.

11. But it may not matter in a couple of hundred years, because barring real revival and conversion of Islamics to some kind of real moderate and modern religion, the fundamentalists will be able to rule a Muslim world with co-ercion. The nature of Islam is to roll over and let the brutal leader do what they want to and figure it's all "fate" and the "will of God". So the masses are easily influenced by fellow "leaders" and "muslim" faithful.

This is the unvarnished truth of the state of the world. If you look back in time, there has always been some kind of fight between the Muslim world and the other world they are trying to conquer. The non-muslim world from time to time fights back, kills some of them off and sends them back out of the Europe or other lands where they invade. Now the mostly liberal but also conservatives in power, want to open up immigration in Europe, to prevent Nazi skinhead types who are against "non Germans" and other non-natives from coming into a country. And what do they do, they allow Turks and other Muslims to go into a Europeon country and legally immigrate where they multiply like rabbits, because they believe in a more ancient farming like cultural mindset which is a larger family. While the supposedly Christian, Communist, Athiest, and other ethnic "non-muslim" looks to get ahead by having a small family and bigger budget, because we all want to be rich. The muslim just keeps putting out babies. And the USA wanting to be a pusher of democracy, pushing the popular vote, thinks it will work in countries like Lebanon, where the majority became Muslim as the PLO were pushed there from Israel. So when the Muslims get in power we see the result in Lebanon, civil war, Muslim goofy rocket attacks and random abduction of Jewish soldiers, etc. They are in a tit-for-tatt battle against the "crusaders" and against "jews" who they hate and are trained by the Quran to hate. So they end up doing the same things whereever they are allowed into power. And the Clinton liberals helped establish a Muslim dominated Bosnia in the former Serbia against a brutal dictator who came from Communism. So in one part of the world we helped the Muslims form a country that supplies most of the Heroin to the free world's drug addicts. And the Mena loving Clintonites ended up helping the drug trafficing terrorists in Bosnia and the reward for our helping the Muslims was the World Trade Center attack.

So if you help them, they attack you and if you don't they attack you.

What may happen. Eventually the free world may wake up and figure out we can't put up with this anymore and we'll have a real crusade on our hands. I'm using the term that the Islamics think is happening, but hasn't even happened. What they have seen is minor stuff. If the US really took the gloves off and was against the Muslim world, it would be the end of them. Because in about 30 days, if we determined we didn't want to put up with the Iraqi BS, we might just group the entire Iraqi population together and say they are all Muslim and we are tired of it. And that would include the 5% minority Christians and Jews over there. And we'd just go to town old style and kill all of them and there wouldn't be any Iraqi problem, just 4 million dead Iraqis. And that sound harse, and of course it's easier to just let them fight it out and deal with the winner.

But why stop there, because it's not a real problem. Wouldn't it be better to just take out the entire Muslim threat. There are 33% Muslims in the world. If the USA really got mad, we just start out and cleanse the world. Of course you won't get rid of all the sinning Muslims, if you deem it to be a sin and worthy of destruction and then again other religions would be a problem and grow up as well over time. So you cannot easily solve the Islamic problem. Now if I sound harse, remember eventually the goal of Islamists are to conquer the world and that means everyone becomes Muslim or they die. In the end that is how they see it.

There are alternative scenarios to a big end time problem. For example, China will need more and more oil. Maybe when the US tires of the Middle East crap, we'll finally get tired and let the Chinese deal with it. Imagine if we worked out a deal to give the green light to the Chinese. They certainly have the manpower. They could just march 200 million soldiers through India, who would let them go through, wipe out Iran, Pakistan perhaps and Iraq. And once they get their their momentum would not allow them to stop and they'd probably just keep going into Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. It would be just about what was talked about in Revelation, where 200 million invade the Middle East from the far east.

So there you have it. One way to stop the terrorist problem, just release terrorist states on a smaller country that is giving you problem, or if you prefer the Bush and Clinton method, play around with smaller actors and make money off of selling them arms. That seems to be the way. BTW: if we keep Iraq unstable, we can keep oil off the market and that may be one of the best things that could happen to Texas oil companies. It's a double blessing for some, make money out of reconstruction, but never really finish.

You said " ... 10,000 people/men, you'll find that a certain percentage of them are rapists or criminals ..." This is true.
But in the USA this percentage is much larger than the one in other societies. The American nature and culture is based on rape, massacre, blood ... You have to look to you're history and to you're actual society. The American people are the most armed in the world: violence, racism, fear, criminality ... Even with the best economic level. So you have to rectify you're estimations.
You're projecting for the future: oil, energy ... You have to add also, in the future the American society will destroy itself.
The USA has contributed to the development and the growth of the Islamic extremists, so it has to face to them now.

YA..YA.. TRY TO COVER AS MUCH AS YOU WANT BUT WATEVER IT IS WE ALL KNOW FOR THE FACT YOU ARE ALL PIGS!!! MENACE TO THE SOCIETY

Everyone is so concerned about the US Troops, but what about the Canadian Troops that also must feel ashamed, due to the fact that we are fighting this war as well. Weather you believe it or not our countries are allies and if one falls so does the other. We need a change big time. Either someone has to win the war, or the world will fall a part. I have lost 3 family members in the war, and kills me to the disgrace both countries must live with.

NOW..they are all so concerned about the United States "image"....they weren't concerned before they were "caught"?....BEFORE they performed the most vile acts imaginable....give me a break...the whole world already knew....they are only keeping the citizens of this country in the dark..covering it up and hoping the American people won't hold any one accountable or seek justice for this stinking pile of deceit, filth and torture (CHILDREN..for God's sake!) I am sick of giving the "ruling class" a pass on criminality....Justice and Accountability for ALL...isn't that why we are a "democracy" in the first place...?

Might I suggest adding "fear" and "cowardice" to your list of pejoratives for the majority in the House and Senate that are in the know to these events and others ...

Some of the villains both past and present that run our Government are capable of perpetuating far worse on “us” in the event they’re cornered… I don’t see too many editors in the top echelons of our media willing to truth dig about the “nuke that went missing” two years ago at Barksdale AFB. Or what happened after the fact to some of the enlisted and officer personnel who carried our there jobs both professionally and with integrity as they were trained as “first responders” in that case….

Let me know when Congress convenes another 9/11 Commission like ex-Senator Bob Kerrey called for a couple of months back.

That is of course if we can find anybody with the "cajones" to take the risks involved in getting the truth out to the American people.
