The Poor Can't Help

It really bothers me, living in Ohio's appalachian high-poverty region, that ther are SO MANY people who really don't have enough income to live on and therefore cannot spend any money to help causes like this that could help them. This region has a history of extremely high patriotism, having always volunteered first for the military, in all wars since the Civil War! Our tiny village have some of the most beautiful and elaborate military monment parks I've ever seen in such small places!!
Also, many in poverty have no way to learn and understand that their opinions DO matter and their votes DO count. Many are not prepared with enough information to help them votes for politicians and on issues that would truly be helpful. A lot are Republicans, simply inherited from family, without realizing how much they are harming the quality-of-life for themselves. I would love to hear of any methods to reach such voters, or groups who would care enough to listen to our people with sincere compassion.

Someone else had the suggestion of checking with nationalpriorities.org to show people how much the war is costing vs. how much giving children healthcare costs, for instance. Also you can contact them directly and they will give you an actual breakdown of how much the war is costing your town. It's really a fabulous learning tool. I have a DVD from the ACLU called Stop the Abuse of Power that I can send you. Let me know.
