Upside Down Flag turns Free Speech Upside Down
"The statute under which Mr. Roe is being prosecuted," Wilson tells me, "bans just about everything we do with flags these days: flag patches on clothing, bumper stickers, use in advertisements, and so forth. Amid all of this 'flag speech,' Mr. Roe's display was singled out for prosecution simply because he chose to criticize the police and how laws are enforced in his community. That's how it always goes: Flag desecration prosecutions are only used for political persecution.
Minneta's resignation: An Amazing Coincidence?
It all began on the evening of June 22, 2006, when "Hannity & Colmes" (on the FOX/RNC Channel) had a guest on by the name of Dr. James H. Fetzer.
Minetta's testimony before the 9/11 Commission. Minetta said he had encountered Vice President Cheney in a bunker in Washington, DC, at 9:20 AM, on the day of the attacks [forty-three minutes earlier than Cheney said he had arrived]. Every few seconds a young man would come into the room and say, 'Sir, it's 50 miles out. Sir, it's 40 miles out. Sir, it's 30 miles out,' and so on. Finally the young man asked the Vice President, 'Sir, do the orders still stand?' Cheney replied gruffly, 'Of course, the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?'
The Return of the Draft
Uncle Sam wants you. He needs you. He'll bribe you to sign up. He'll strong-arm you to re-enlist. And if that's not enough, he's got a plan to draft you.
Kevin Barrett needs someone to take the position of the 911 Commission Report for debate.
We are going to have a local debate on 9/11 even if we have to debate an empty chair. Truth TV, a new 9/11 truth show Thursday night show (11 p.m.) on Madison’s WYOU-TV, cable channel 4, has agreed to provide a venue. (Other local and national media outlets are also welcome to invite us to use their facilities and to broadcast the debate!) We will be announcing a date for upcoming 9/11 debates. Jim Fetzer and/or Kevin Barrett will argue against the 9/11 Commission Report. We will choose the most qualified person we can find to defend the official story. If nobody is willing to step forward, we will debate an empty chair, thereby proving that the pro-9/11 Commission case is so weak that none dare defend it.
Wayne Madsen on Kevin Barrett responds to Bill O'Reilly's Nazi-like attack:
It has come to my attention that one of your announcers, Bill O’Reilly, has stated on national television that he would like to see me murdered and thrown into Boston Harbor. Since I get so many email death threats I can’t keep track of them (among the 10% of my 9/11-related emails that are negative) this is a pretty inflammatory thing to say. If anything were to happen to me, Fox News would find itself facing the mother of all lawsuits, and my family might very well end up in control of the Murdoch fortune. You may wish to consider urging your friends in the White House to offer me Secret Service protection.
No Drought Required For Federal Drought Aid - Hurriedly drafted by the Bush administration in 2002 and expanded by Congress the following year, the relief plan rapidly became an expensive part of the government's sprawling system of entitlements for farmers, which topped $25 billion last year.
UN warns over Afghanistan drought - The United Nations in Afghanistan says that millions are facing hunger this year because of drought and that it does not have the resources to help.
CNN prepares Israeli false flag war provocation vs. Americans in Lebanon
The escalating Israeli assault on Lebanon clearly represents a conscious bid to provoke a general war in the Middle East. The captured Israeli soldiers are only the pretext for the present massive military operations.
Bush: Iran May Be Behind Crisis (Like Iraqi WMD)
President George W. Bush believes suspicions of Iran's involvement in the escalating Middle East violence are legitimate, he tells Newsweek in an exclusive interview. "There's a lot of people who believe that the Iranians are trying to exert more and more influence over the entire region and the use of Hizbullah is to create more and more chaos to advance their strategy," says Bush in Newsweek's July 24 cover story "Meltdown" (on newsstands Monday, July 17).
I Know I Won't Fight . . . But How Do I Prove it?
CCCO receives calls asking this question at least once a week. The answer is a definite yes and no. Even though the registration card has no official space for it, you can still put yourself on record as a conscientious objector. Write on the bottom of the registration card, I am a conscientious objector. Photocopy the actual card a few times; place one of the copies in a sealed envelope before mailing the card to Selective Service; then mail the copy to yourself on the same day that you register. Since the actual card is destroyed after processing, your sealed, postmarked envelope is the only existing record of your notice to the Selective Service.
Taliban forces take control of two towns in Afghanistan: report Taliban forces have taken over two towns in the southern part of the country, local media reported. Scores of Taliban fighters on Sunday entered the southern Helmand town of Garmser, forcing a small security force to flee and then taking control of the area, the report said, quoting a local official.
Train bombers 'funded by British businessmen' --Manmohan Singh, the Indian Prime Minister, raised the terror link with Tony Blair at the G8 summit in St Petersburg yesterday, reminding him that India handed over a detailed dossier three years ago identifying 14 men living in Britain and was assured the suspects would be investigated.,,170-2273287,00.html
Stop Specter's Surveillance Bill!
EFF's lawsuit against AT&T aims to expose and stop its collaboration with the NSA's massive spying program. But the White House and Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) have reportedly come to a sham compromise that would sweep this illegal activity and any further government surveillance under the rug, shuffling legal challenges out of the traditional court system and into the shadowy FISA courts. Tell Congress to reject this proposal and let cases like EFF's have a fair hearing in court.
The Real Agenda
It is only now, nearly five years after Sept. 11, that the full picture of the Bush administration's response to the terror attacks is becoming clear. Much of it, we can see now, had far less to do with fighting Osama bin Laden than with expanding presidential power.
Over and over again, the same pattern emerges: Given a choice between following the rules or carving out some unprecedented executive power, the White House always shrugged off the legal constraints. Even when the only challenge was to get required approval from an ever-cooperative Congress, the president and his staff preferred to go it alone. While no one questions the determination of the White House to fight terrorism, the methods this administration has used to do it have been shaped by another, perverse determination: never to consult, never to ask and always to fight against any constraint on the executive branch.
Former Ambassador Leo Wanta Getting 1.2 Trillion Of Stolen U.S. Funds Back To Treasury
Despite the Bush and Clinton crime families efforts to rip-off the country of more than 27.5 trillion, Wanta has recovered more than 1.2 trillion. He further thanked the Arctic Beacon for being one of the only news outlets to believe his story as the mainstream media remains hush-hush.
Lebanon civilian deaths morally not same as terror victims -- Bolton
US Ambassador John Bolton said there was no moral equivalence between the civilian casualties from the Israeli raids in Lebanon and those killed in Israel from "malicious terrorist acts".
Leviathan run amok
The perception in the Arab street - as well as for most of the world's 1.4 billion Muslims - has been reinforced: the US/Israel axis seems to hold a license to kill Arabs with impunity.
"The Insane Brutality of the State of Israel" Atrocities in the Promised Land
It needs to be said now, loudly: those who devise and carry out Israeli policies have made Israel into a monster, and it has come time for all of us -- all Israelis, all Jews who allow Israel to speak for them, all Americans who do nothing to end U.S. support for Israel and its murderous policies -- to recognize that we stain ourselves morally by continuing to sit by while Israel carries out its atrocities against the Palestinians.

One Giant Gaza Strip from the Caspian to the Red Sea
Israel's rationale is merely an apology for state terrorism and it's utterly meaningless in respect to the enormous damage they've caused.
Israel's path to total war
Despite dire warnings by certain US politicians, such as Senator John Warner, the Bush administration has failed to call on Israel to halt its offensive, opting instead to focus on Syria and Iran - reminding one of the Vietnam War when Moscow or Peking (Beijing) were often blamed for the efforts of the North Vietnamese.

Blaming The Victim In Gaza:
Few readers will be aware that on June 24, the day before the "kidnapping", Israeli commandos had entered the Gaza Strip and captured two Palestinians claimed by Israel to be members of Hamas.
Middle East Violence: Neocons' Fantasy:
The champions of American global empire are using the latest upsurge of violence in the Middle East to give new life to their discredited plan to extend the war in Iraq to Syria and Iran. The neo-con Weekly Standard has taken the lead in its July 24th cover issue, proclaiming that the current violence is "Iran's Proxy War" against the West.
Blair: Iran and Syria must stop Middle East crisis :
"Hizbullah is supported by Iran and Syria, by the former in weapons, weapons incidentally very similar if not identical to those used against British troops in Basra, [and] by the latter in many different ways and by both financially," he told MPs.

Taliban seize control of two towns in chaotic province:

A telling insight into the one-sided relationship with Bush :
The live microphone exchanges captured yesterday between George Bush and Tony Blair offer a snapshot between an articulate but ultimately subordinate Prime Minister and the verbally stumbling President.
Terror survey has frightening outlook:
Some 84 percent of the analysts disagreed with President George W. Bush's assessment that the United States was winning the war on terror.
U.S. is called unhelpful in probe of abduction:
Germany said Sunday that the U.S. has refused to help probe the alleged CIA abduction of a German citizen.
Gonzales: Bush blocked eavesdropping probe:
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Tuesday that President Bush personally blocked Justice Department lawyers from pursuing an internal probe of the warrantless eavesdropping program that monitors Americans' international calls and e-mails when terrorism is suspected.
The Definition of Tyranny :
Congress is dithering and the American public doesn't even seem particularly concerned as the administration of George W. Bush systematically trashes such fundamental American values as justice, due process, respect for human rights and submission to the rule of law.
Chossudovsky interview: "Al-Qaeda Is a U.S.-sponsored Intelligence Asset"
Michel Chossudovsky, author of the international bestseller America's War on Terrorism, personally graced the jam-packed local launch of his latest book held at the Asian Center at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City last June 24. During the launch, he gave a lecture about the imminent danger of a U.S.-made nuclear catastrophe amid the Bush administration's preparations for war with Iran. Joel Garduce of Center for Anti-Imperialist Studies (CAIS) caught up with the director of the Centre for Research in Globalization (CRG) during his short weekend stay in the Philippines and conducted the following interview.
Secret US plot to crush Hezbollah 18 Jul 2006 The Bush Administration, while concerned about the survival of Lebanon's fragile democratic government, basically supports the Israeli action and sees it as an opportunity to cripple Hezbollah, which the Administration is convinced is controlled, financed and equipped by Syria and Iran.
1,100 Big Dig bolts 'unreliable' --Death prompts tests, concerns. 17 Jul 2006 Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said Monday that tests show more than 1,100 bolt assemblies that used epoxy and more than 300 other areas in a Big Dig connector tunnel where the ceiling collapsed are unreliable.

Halliburton's Fleecing Ends -- Or Does It?:
Two sets of hearings by Representative Henry Waxman and Senator Byron Dorgan, using the Pentagon's own information, exposed Halliburton's deceitful billing practices: charging for twice as many employees as actually hired and always choosing the most expensive vendor. Instead of paying 80 cents a pound for bacon, Halliburton paid $6. Instead of $450,000 for ice, Halliburton paid $3.4 million, blaming transportation costs. Where did it come from, Alaska?
Letting Halliburton continue, much less bid on government logistics contracts again, sends a terrible message. It says, If I catch you bilking the government, I'll suggest you knock it off. But I'll still pay you, and require only that you compete for the opportunity to do so again -- and likely win because of experience gained from three years on the job, more information than anyone but the Army itself, and an infrastructure already in place.
Wayne Madsen on Election Voting Security - Georgia's Democratic primary is today. Already, problems with Diebold machines are being reported from Georgia's Fourth District, where Rep. Cynthia McKinney is facing a primary challenge. This is reminiscent of 2002 when McKinney was defeated in the primary because of documented election fraud. WMR urges its readers in the Georgia Fourth to get out the vote for McKinney and document any incidents of fraud or voter intimidation, including that from police or people claiming to be "state officials."
Wayne Madsen on the Press - While Israeli bombs and missiles obliterate Lebanon and her people, the Washington Post's Dana Millbank, a favorite messenger boy for the Bush neocons, launched his own attack against Lebanese-American White House Press Corps Doyenne Helen Thomas, in a scathing review of her new book, Watchdogs of Democracy: The Waning Washington Press Corps and How It Failed the Public. Thomas has been one of the few White House correspondents to try to hold George W. Bush and his three lap dog Press Secretaries accountable for their actions. Millbank does not hide the fact that he detests Thomas and her politics in calling for a more even-handed U.S. approach to the Middle East. Millbank is a noted apologist for Israel and a key member of what has become known as "The Lobby" in Washington. Millbank harangued former CIA officer Ray McGovern, alleging he was anti-Semitic because he stated that the U.S. attack on Iraq was partially carried out for the interests of Israel. But that is Millbank's job and what his Washington Post masters expect him to do.

Forces Will Try to Retake Afghan Towns - U.S.-led forces will launch "decisive operations" to reclaim two southern towns captured in recent days by the Taliban, the military said Tuesday. Scores of Taliban militants chased police out of the two towns near the Pakistani border.
